Wow, shame I missed the 2012 DC then...
Thing is, when I read the borg being called Mother, I just think of Sigourney Weaver in Alien, screaming "Mother, you BITCH!" at the computer...

JW women and breast implants or other cosmetic surgery
by Comatose in*first* - a clarification that needs to be made.
this is not about all women.
i am not against cosmetic surgery.

This was in the UK.
In the same hall there was a sister who had had breast and, erm, posterior enhancement surgery. But at least that was supposed to be a secret...

A young sister, who married her husband after about 3 months (but both their families were from Mediterranean backgrounds, so that's OK) had breast enhancement surgery after about a year.
Her husband, a giant d**k at the best of times, ACTUALLY said this:
"I finally feel like I've married a real woman"
I asked her when she thought she would feel like she'd married a real man. OK, I didn't, but I thought that about 3 minutes after...

JW prayers
by Laika inlisten, i know many of you saw the word 'prayer' in the thread title and are just itching to write a post about how prayer never works, sorry to disappoint, but whether or not prayer works is not the point of this post.. jws do believe that prayer works, and as such, what they tend to pray about is, i think, quite revealing about their general attitudes toward other people.. i have heard thousands of public prayers by jws, some of you may have heard tens of thousands.
i obviously cannot remember them all, but my experience tells me that never, or at least rarely (i guess there are always exceptions to the rule) would a jw pray for the solution of a general problem such as asking jehovah to help the homeless, asking jehovah to bring peace in a wartorn country, or asking jehovah to bring about fairness to the oppressed, except as such problems may effect other jws, or except by means of 'the kingdom', which is supposed to solve said problems by wiping out all those suffering them.
they may pray for direct help for members of the congregation going through major problems, but i rarely hear a jw offer to say a personal prayer for someone going through a hard time.

Zeb - sounds like you too were at Norwich DC. One brother there couldn't help but summarise the program, IN TINIEST DETAIL. SO irritating...

AHA! Moments. When you were a JW; what struck you the hardest counter?
by Terry insooner or later every jehovah's witness encounters an intelligent person with facts at their disposal who can unload something that causes a doubt.
naturally, you defend against it.
but, the wind has been knocked out of your belief-system however briefly.

I too had 'um' moments rather than AHA!
-The LOVE, with sisters who would ask after my house-bound mother, then I'd see them doing Return Visits (tm) 2 minutes walk from her house.
-An attendant expecting me (as another attendant) not to enforce the 'one way rule' on a CO, just because he was a CO (obedience in small things??)-The CO and DOs getting silver-service dinners at the District Convention
- How languages and races could have developed so independently in only 6000 years (starting off this just the 2, of course)
- How much I wanted to have someone to share my life with but because that person would be of the same gender, I was expected to stay 'chaste'...
Thanks to these and others, my Sunday mornings are all 'mmmmmmmmm' *turn over and go back to sleep* moments.

Yes, I do still have those feelings from time to time, and I think I agree with the others. I haven't spent the time needed in debunking things, and I think I am quite open-minded now (I don't believe something just because an ex-dub says it for example). We are all on our own path, and adjustment will be in our own style and our own time, but as long as you are moving in the right direction.
I would say, however, that not being brainwashed at the meetings to look for the signs, I no longer see a worsening of things such as wars and famines and earthquakes. -

A day in the life of a fading JW
by dissonance_resolved ini'm five months into my slow fade and it's going so-so.
my saturday morning was spent on a 3-mile jog and taking the kids to the park, which was great, but i'm still shuddering from the potential alternative.
at the last meeting, an elderette literally blocked the exit to prevent my escape and said she just "noticed" that we were in the same field service group and would i like to work with her in service on saturday?

That must be harrowing to have children too, I worry about my sisters' thinking I am dying soon, but they are adults. You have my sympathy, but hopefully it will make her think twice, as you said.
On a side note, I think I'd rather go on the ministry than go for a run... -

How long has this 'Mother' thing been around, I stopped going about 3 and a half years ago and can't remember the Borg being described as our 'mother'. Is that just due to lack of concentration, never reading the literature or just because Chef Satan kept me working at the dessert station all day?!

Crazy JW chaperon Stories
by superman inthe jw's must not trust their members or at least don't have too much faith in them when it comes to being alone around member of the opposite sex.
i can remember one time in particular from when i was a teenager that still makes me laugh today.. when i was younger i used to go out in service on a regular basis during the week when i had summer break.
one time when i met for service there were only two other people that showed up.

Being a gay JW is great, no one suspects you of needing a chaperone for someone of the SAME sex...
