I also don't like what they're insinuating with the 'unbeliever's' clothing. That's what I wear around the house, at least when it's cold. Usually you'll find me in some shorts, and sometimes a shirt. I don't lounge around in my home with a polo shirt tucked into my khaki pants and my dress shoes on.
And the newspaper...I guess it's supposed to mean that JWs aren't supposed to read newspapers, but rather the WT literature. Right. The more uninformed we are, the better.

today, there are many teenage baptized servants of jehovah... how far should they go with a secular education?
One of my biggest regrets...is that I (and a few other brothers) commented during the meetings that WT isn't asking people not to go to college. As clear as it is in English, in French it's a little different. Higher education is translated in French by the WT as "grandes études", which literally means in English "LONG studies", which everyone understood to be studies that were longer than four or 5 years, like medical school which is at least 8. Now that I know that it means higher education in general, I will go around and advise everyone (starting with my father) that the WT is indeed referring to college.

I wouldn't go so far to say that my mom isn't bright...it's just that anyone will end up saying things like that when they become a hard-core JW. It's very sad actually, because she (and all other hard-core JWs) lets the society cloud her judgment. That same night, she said that the whole 1975 dilemma was just Satan at work...which is absurd. How could Jehovah let his "organization" be controlled by Satan? It makes no sense.

I asked my parents this question. My dad said that it's something he never thought about before, and my mom came with the rebuttal, saying that the society probably just misunderstood the information. Misunderstanding information falls right on its face, because the society always claims that anything they say is from Jehovah/the Holy Sprit.
She used that argument against the 1975 fiasco...saying that the society probably never saw the verse that says 'no one will know the time or day' (Matthew 24:36). Since I hadn't determined that for myself, I could not say anything to that (but still thought it to be highly unlikely). But later I went to the watchtower library, and looked up the verse to see how far back it's used in the literature...and sure enough, I found it in one of the pre-1975 watchtowers, and literally right after they cite the verse, they go one to ramble about 1975 - such glaring contradiction!

i was raised in the borg, got married and now have a young child.. my wife is very much dedicated to the organization and will justify anything the "slave" does putting it off on the borgs imperfection.

I'm also a young MS, except I'm not married, and still live at home with my parents. You should know right now that there is no honorable way to leave the WT/JWs. I'm just as trapped as you are, and I have no idea what my next move will be.

It's very true that witnesses don't know what they believe. For example, almost any witness you'll run into is completely unaware of the "overlapping generations" new light...they still think of it the way it was previously.
