just one question
by beepers ini am an inactive witness.
the problem i'm having is that i have a 1 year old daughter.

Beepers,
You have gotten some good advice so far. I just want to add that when I quit going to meetings I was terrified because I was so confused even though I was resolved in my decision to leave the organization.I remember that fear you describe. We as parents take our responsibilities seriously and would never want to be the cause of harm to them. Also If your like some of us your fears are compounded by what JW friends and family say to you.
What you are feeling is normal. You were taught that Jews have all the answers and when you realize that’s not true and you find that Jah really isn’t behind them your still scared because you feel God expects you to have all the answers or else! Also you were taught not to trust yourself.
That simply is not true. That is left over from what you were taught before. We were also taught conflicting things about God. We were taught he is a God of love and understanding and also a harsh and demanding one.
What helped calm me down the most was this discussion board and reading. They have both been a life saver as far as my mental and emotional state.Someone already recommended one or two great books but one I’d like to add to your list is by Steven Hassen called Combating Cult Mind Control.
This book will help you deal with those fears and destructive thought patterns. If you continue your journey and not get paralyzed in one-place things will get much better for you.

PARADISE HOPE FOR THE NON-RELIGIOUS APOSTATE
by Ranchette inyes, we non-religious apostates have our paradise fantasies too.
most of us let go of the fantasy of living forever on a paradise earth for another hope.
the one we hope in is a little more realistic than the one we have left behind.. we have accepted that we dont have all the answers about god and an afterlife.

Joel,

How have appointed bros handled leaving the WTS
by Leander ini'm debating on when to actually decide and step down as a ministerial servant.
my conscience will no longer allow me to give talks or speak to others in the door-to-door work.. i'm feeling really apprehensive about what i need to do, i know for a fact that my wife is going to be devestated.. .
whats the best way to step down from an appointed position?
-
Ranchette
Leander,
I’ve noticed that it’s harder and harder to step down these days. They are desperate and will try to get you to change your mind or just say that there’s no need for that they will just take your situation into consideration and be patient till things get better for you.
The most effective thing is to miss meetings and service then it will be their idea to remove you. Before I quit going to meetings I got to were I could not give talks on subjects I didn’t believe then I couldn’t do it at all. I went to our school overseer and told him that I was under a lot of stress and wanted to be taken off the list till several months later. I knew I’d be completely out by then anyway. He refused to take me off the list! He said if he assigned me before I was ready I could trade with someone.
I was so mad! I came home and told my husband that the man could assign me all the talks he wanted but I won’t show up or get any subs for him!

Final Straw???

There were many straws in the pile for me that had stacked up over the years.
Some of the latest were the change in the generation teaching, the sterilization and vasectomies rule changing back and forth, blood fractions, the voting scandal, I could go on and on but the final straw I think was that I had been this congregation for over 5 years and I found out that our PO is a child molester! The old time elders knew it and did not warn me or anyone else in the cong., so that we could protect our children! Not only that, but I was disgusted that he was in the highest position in the cong! Also my daughter was a best friend with this guy’s daughter and she spent many a night at their house.
We are taught to trust brothers especially those with positions. We were betrayed so they could protect their old time buddy! He’s not an elder now but he still is held out as an example in the cong., he does parts on the meetings and the congregation is still in the dark about this sicko.
The way WT has handled this case along withers was it for me!
Just think were supposed to believe that Jah's spirit selected this child molester to be an elder!!
