Proclamation made in April... of 1863. Many tried to ignore the proclamation and not inform their slaves or set them free. Many people from southern states went to Texas with their illegal slaves in tow to continue enslaving. It wasn't until the surrender of Lee a full 2 years later at the very end of the civil war that these people were free.
That is why it is celebrated aside from the other two events.

I live in the South and I most definitely will! The food, the fun, the stories etc... are all great.
It is more of a Southern celebration that should definitely get more attention.
After all, if no one sees the need to discredit the celebration of St. Patrick's Day or Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the United States or Rash Hashanah, why not the same support or at least understanding of a holiday that has some symbolism to a historically influential and oppressed group of people.

James Jack if I remember correctly we use to live near each other in the FL. Congrats on the big moves! Enjoy everything you achieve moving forward.
In regards to the not saving, don't feel you were the only one. My parents both did the same thing. Uprooted our family in the 1960's and moved to where the need was great. So diehard my dad quit his union job, refused any military benefits and worked for near minimum wage for years until he realized 75 was not the end.
Many people firmly believed and made those decisions. Best thing to do is move forward with job bro!!!

Governing Body; Villians or just Deluded?
by pistolpete inare you sometimes dumbfounded at the direction the governing body takes?.
thousands of documents proving 607 bce is wrong, yet the gb sticks to the date, why?.
the generation that would not die, yet they continue by introducing an overlapping generation.. disfellowshipping at a time when everyone is leaving, not a good idea, yet they continue to disfellowship.. here is a video that addresses these questions.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbgeqhp9o9i.

They believe what they espouse and they are truly no different than most other people who become religious zealots for one reason or another. Some of them are very haughty and strike me as the CEO types and they have that same personality.
I will never forget when I was at Bethel and it was the day that the "apostates" protested outside yelling etc...
Brother Sydlik previously had been harrassed on the street by them the previous year. It was time for lunch and the street was lined with folks with signs screaming etc and a few of us new boys asked Sydlik if we can walk with him from 124 to the Factory where he was going to eat. He says, "I'll be fine guys. If someone attacks me or tries to hurt me, I hope they finish the job because my body is weary, and I want to go home to my father..."
The man believed what he was saying. They really think they are going to heaven, just like every other religious person I know, he just thinks he has a special spot.

This ..... blew.... my.... mind... always my favorite song
Then what about when the washtowel blatantly ripped off Vangelis' song Chariots of Fire (recorded in 1981, a big hit in early spring 1982) for its Kingdumb Malady 42 (released in July 1984, probably recorded and written in late 1983 or early 1984)?

I remember the smurf story all the way back to the late eighties early 90s....
Ooooooor
The Doberman pinscher that the owner let loose and it ran up to bite the elder and just before it got to him it was wrestled to the ground by an invisible force... supposedly an angel and when let loose it ran back inside in fear.

A young JW kid brought how a Bruce Lee drawing from school that was given to him by a Loatian kid. That night the kid went to sleep and had bad dreams and said he woke up and couldn't move. He told his mother what had happened that night and she asked if took anything from anyone. He told her about the picture and she called the elders to co.e over.
Instead of just throwing it away, she called the elders to come over for direction on what to do. They counseled her and the boy demonstrating the demons can use any medium to enter your home and attack you.
They proceeded to take the drawing outside and burn it in a jar, run water in the jar and then pour the ashes into a sewer grate. Wrap the jar in a plastic bag, break it, and then throw it in the trash.
