  Additionally off-topic...

  When I was growing up, there was a young married couple in my hall who were the envy of all the wannabe cool kids. This couple had it together; he was always in sharp clothing, perfect hair/goatee, she in expensive, chic dresses and perfect hair as well. They moved to Palm Springs and several years later, word came that he was DF'ed for being "a homo" as so many in my Midwestern congregation were fond of saying. (His wife was remarried soon after to some 20 year old kid, and I lost track of her.) I recall overhearing adults commenting that they "weren't surprised" and it was "too bad he's gonna die at Armageddon."

  Hatred for homosexuals was so "normal" amongst the JWs where I lived. It was just about the only acceptable group of people to hate (next to the Catholics, of course!) so you hated with all your righteous might. How damaging. How horrible.

  <sigh> I hope he's doing well and living life to the fullest.

  i bought c of c last year and spent a long time reading it (3 whole months).

  thanks to this well-written and researched book, i was finally able to get past the "armageddon syndrome" that so many ex-jws experience (i.e., "i'm gonna die at armageddon for reading this apostate literature").

  I bought C of C last year and spent a long time reading it (3 whole months). Thanks to this well-written and researched book, I was finally able to get past the "Armageddon Syndrome" that so many ex-JWs experience (i.e., "I'm gonna die at Armageddon for reading this apostate literature").

  I noticed that R.F. was very careful not to offer specific opinions about his personal religious beliefs. Wondering... is he a member of an organized religion now? Last I heard, he was living in Alabama. True? Does he correspond at all with individuals who write him?

  I'm Reagan, I was a JW for the first 20 years of my life. Parents are still very involved in the Organization (Dad's the PO in their congregation, Mom's a Reg. Pioneer). Married and DF'ed at 19, reinstated and divorced at 21, haven't attended a meeting in four years.

  From the threads I've browsed, you all seem very interesting; looking forward to getting to know you better.

  hello all, registered just to post this and see what you all had to say about this.

  i, for one, am in shock.

  it was anounced today on "extra" and they said we would soon see a change in his music because he was "marrying his music to his religion.

  This thread absolutely cracked me up! My x-husband used to love --and I mean LOVE-- Prince. He was absolutely insane-- had every album, import, CD single, interactive CD, you name it.

  hi everyone, i just read esmerelda's post, i can see where she's coming from, being a new member, myself.. i understand, though, that people have already made friends and have their own little community, and that's fine.. i don't mind at all, i just hope that i can get people's attention by saying something that hasn't been said before...... i'm struggling though......... bye bye.

  I'm not yet officially "shunned" by my family; Mom has asked the inevitable, "how do you feel about our religion" question, and it needs to be dealt with. (I was dfed in '95, reinstated in '97, and then left on my own.) I intend to tell them that I love them unconditionally, that my door is always open. If the WTBTS changes their stand (which I highly doubt will ever happen unless their membership numbers drop drastically ), I would welcome my family with open arms. I bear no hatred or ill-will; that is what the Scribes and Pharisees did. They are cult members; they choose not to look past the rhetoric and propoganda that is pounded into them. I have compassion for them.

  A New Way to Give a Sister's Talk !!

  the talk: the sister and her householder has a chat about the material for the talk, say on the subject of blood transfusions, prophecy or any other so-called biblical subjects.. in the course of the talk, the householder begins to ask questions, such as:.

  Ha! I love it...

  When I was younger, maybe 14, I had to give talk #3 on Matthew 16:18 ("And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it." RSV)

  Well, I thought that it was pretty clear-cut that Jesus was telling Peter that he (Peter) was the "rock." So that's what I based my talk on.

  About 3 minutes into the talk, the elder handling the school started ringing the bell. I couldn't understand why, so I checked my watch and kept going. After he rang the bell again, I stopped the talk and went back to my seat. I realized later what I had said, and that must have been why everyone was so quiet!
