Correction: the Zimbabwean letter (mentioned in the post above) was really sent by mistake. Therefore, the new policy applies only to European countries.

St George of England, I just googled it and... at least, today I learned something new.
Anders Andersen, in my opinion, it's too broad. I also believe door-to-door note keeping isn't a serious privacy issue, in contrast to Bethel databases. Finally, I'm skeptical about GDPR in general.
I don't oppose the judgment and its consequences - frankly, I'm glad to see the recent changes - but I also don't consider this as a victory or something similar.

sir82, you can read about this case and background in CJEU judgment and (non-binding) opinion of its Advocate General. In aftermath of this judgment, the Finnish Supreme Administrative Court uphold decision of the Finnish Data Protection Board "prohibiting the Jehovah’s Witnesses Community from collecting or processing personal data in the course of door-to-door preaching carried out by its members unless the legal requirements for processing such data laid down".
Some interesting legal blogs about the CJEU judgment:

It's worth noting (despite I have strong personal reservations about the judgment) that the proceeding before Finnish data protection authorities was initiated by a local ex-JW activist. Read more here: https://johanneksenpoika.fi/tietosuoja3/index.html (in Finnish)

keinlezard Same letter in France
And also in Finland, Baltic states, Poland and Spain. And in all EU and EEA states as well.
Interestingly, French letter was sent to congregations in metropolitan France and French overseas departments, whereas France branch territory also includes two sovereign non-European nations, Mauritius and Seychelles.
I'm curious whether this letter could be sent to Zimbabwean congs by mistake

It looks like the same letter was sent to congregations in Zimbabwe. Is it a new worldwide policy?

slimboyfat Are publishers even allowed to ask the householder if they can take a note for a return visit. The letter doesn’t make any allowance for that. Apparently it’s no notes at all!
Yes, because every publisher taking notes - even when there's a householder's consent - bears all responsibilities of controller under GDPR, jointly with local congregation and national entity.
Presumably they have sent letters to foreign language congregations to explain how on earth this is supposed to work.
Ghettoes and cart ministry?
sir82 Did you see this from the reddit thread: If they preach to an EU citizen living in the US (or anywhere else), and they make a GDPR complaint, the EU can fine the branch over there.
Art. 3 of the GDPR says otherwise.

Christian or Atheists?
by Skipper254 inin my brief time on this site, i've come to realize that most people who have been shunned or stray away from the jehovah witnesses normally end up having no faith at all.
my curiosity has led me to the conclusion that the gb has created more atheists than believers...... .

Pew Research Center, 2014 Religious Landscape Study (NB: margin of error nearly +/- 7.5 percentage points):
Among those raised as Jehovah's Witnesses, now:
- 34% still identify themselves with their childhood religion,
- 31% belong to other religions, and
- 35% are religious "Nones" (unaffiliated) - the highest rate among Christian denominations.
Similar rates were observed in 2007:

FreeAgent--See If This HLC Brochure Helps!
by Atlantis inthe hlc brochure; (workbook to assist with conscience matters involving blood).
leaves no conscience choice for jw doctors or jw nurses in this matter.. page 11, in the 2nd box it states:jehovah's witnesses and health"jehovah's witnesses, some of whom are physicians and nurses, are known worldwide for their rejection of transfusions involving whole blood or primary blood components.
does their united stand against this practice stem from man-made doctrine or a belief that a person's faith can heal medical ailments?
-
Corney
Page 10 indicates the brochure merely quotes from August 2006 Awake! And the quote can be understood as "JWs don't accept transfusions, even those who are medical professionals themselves".
Also, Correspondence Guidelines (as of 2011) stated: "A Christian who is a nurse or a doctor respects the Scriptures and therefore would not recommend or order a blood transfusion for a patient. If he or she as an employee is not responsible for deciding the matter and is directed by a superior to administer a transfusion to a non-Witness, whether to obey is a matter for personal, conscientious decision.—w99 4/15 28-30; w75 4/1 215-16" (p. 15).

Help: project to gather statistics on JW congregation finances.
by Anders Andersen inmany countries demand that charities publish a yearly summary of their finances.. where i live (netherlands), charities must publish these statements themselves, and jw do this at jw-anbi.nl.
(i'm quite certain almost no jw knows about that site btw.).
anyway i've been working on automatically harvesting data from all the congregation finance statements to gain more insight in how the borg is doing over time.. now it occured to me that i could do this analysis for more countries and get an even bigger picture.
