  Donations for Literature?

  i know that there is a variety of posters here from different places.

  i have seen some from canada, the u.s., and australia, and england.

  so i wanted to ask about the "donation" arrangement for literature.. somebody in another thread mentioned the "double" payment thing.

  waiting, consider what it costs the Society to produce literature.....less than a penny for either magazines or books. After all, the only cost they have is for the actual materials...all labor is free.

  The "sales force" pays for the literature up front, then they "donate" whatever money they get from the public.

  This sounds like another case of doublespeak. Perhaps the payment is down, but costs are certainly adequately covered.

  Think of it....what is the average suggested donation for a CD? I've heard several different amounts, but it's usually $50 or more. You can burn a CD for less than $1.00. Again, all labor is free. That's a pretty hefty markup.

  ALL of the funeral talks are generic. I was very upset at the funeral talk for my mother. She had been a faithful Witness for over 40 years. Her last 18 months were spent in a nursing home (during which time none of the elders from several congregations ever visited her...but that's another story).

  I told the elder who was to give the funeral talk about some small things that had happened during Mom's hospitalization that showed her personality...her love of life even in adversity...her sense of humor. The brother used NONE of this information. Although he and his wife had presumably been fairly close to Mom before her stroke, his talk barely acknowledged Mom's existence. It was a generic resurrection/paradise talk all the way.

  I don't think I have ever felt so empty. My Mom was cremated, as was my Dad, and we buried their ashes together in my Dad's rose garden. Our family held a small, private memorial service for each of them with just the immediate family. I'm glad we did that. Our private service was much more personal and did much more to give us closure. We each spoke about my parents' lives and what they meant to us.

  The funeral talk at the Hall was simply another talk....there was no comfort in it.

  when i find out i've been lied to, deceived, and mistreated, i don't ask for more.

  In my own case, it has been a matter of growing up in the religion. You know nothing else, and you have cut yourself off from the "world". It's a frightening prospect to consider leaving a comfortable, albeit hypocritical, venue.

  Then, too, there's the nagging thought that you MIGHT be wrong, and if you're wrong, you are condemning your family to die. Heavy burdens.

  Discussions such as this, however, help to clarify matters and strengthen the knowledge base, making a break a definite possibility. Knowing that you're not alone and do not NEED to be alone helps immeasurably.

  The internet is a very powerful tool. It has helped to eliminate one of the Society's strongest weapons.....that of isolation.

  JW preaching work to end in the 20th Century

  page 12 of the january 1, 1989 wt magazine paragraph 8 ends with the statement that the apostle paul's missionary activity laid a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.".

  i take this as subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d., or should have come by now.. i find it interesting that the bound volume reprint has the wording changed to read, " a work that would be completed in our day.".

  does anyone know why the change?

  Well, at least we don't have to worry about the computers on January 1, 2001. This coming New Year's Day might be the end of the world, but at least I won't have to be at work in case the programs have bugs.

  About the 89 WT quote.

  frenchy, i actually read the article in the 89 watchtower the following quote comes from.. w89 9/1 19 remaining organized for survival into the millennium.

  "7 only jehovahs witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the supreme organizer, have any scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by satan the devil.".

  reading the article it appears to me that the statement, pretty direct as i said in one of my other posts, is based on the understanding of the status of sheep and goats at that time.

  With all the changes and flip-flops in doctrine that have taken place, I'm sure that most of us who espouse the belief that there are those who are not JW's who will survive are merely leaving the door open a bit in case the Society changes its stance.

  The preaching work has always been a necessity (and a hedge in case our feelings about those being saved are wrong). Can we afford to take the chance that those who are not JW's will, in fact, die if we don't do our utmost to save them?

  I don't know of many who could bear the burden of looking into the faces of thousands of "walking dead" every day. It's easier psychologically to acknowledge that "Jehovah will ultimately judge them".

  It is also difficult to reconcile this teaching with those we meet. It's much easier to be politically correct (and, yes, evasive) and say that we cannot judge who will survive. The fact is, however, that the official teaching is that we hustle our butts and convert as many as we can, or they, and we ourselves, are dead meat.

  This is also a fantastic hook for keeping the peons in line.....leave us (the ark, the place of safety, the sanctuary) and you die....and your children, and your little dog, too (to quote a line from the Wizard of Oz).

  Predictions and Prophecy - Your turn baby!

  we all know the organization hasn't been shy about making predictions for what could happen in the future as far as the world and world conditions go.. now its your turn to state where the organization will be in 2 years, 5 years and 10 years.

  what will "conditions" be like?

  what are your hopes?

  I've felt for some time that the Society will become ever more mainstream.

  Hours for pioneers have been cut, assemblies are shorter, more and more rules are being relaxed.

  I think that in the 10-year time span, most of the hard-line prophecies will have been long abandoned. This is already becoming evident with the changes to "generation" and 1914.

  I also think that numbers in the developed countries of the world will continue to drop. I've noticed a trend toward having more children (or shall we say, ready-made members). Having children used to be discouraged due to the nearness of the end. Now it is a necessity to bolster sagging membership figures.

  this link has a scan of a printed by the society brochure planned giving to benefit the kingdom.

  the faithful and discreet slave has a fund to enable us to contribute stocks and saving to the kingdom preaching work whilst both we and them enjoytaxation benefits.or if we want to bequest our properties etc to the preaching work via this fund.

  we can get it out before hand if we want too.
