Police drown cat
by asortafairytale in.
last week, two police officers threw a cat into the river to drown it, after owner alleged it had attacked her and no longer wanted it.. .
personally, i find it disgusting and completely inhumane.
-
RedhorseWoman
That is disgusting. They had no way to tell if the cat was truly dangerous. The woman could have lied about it simply because she didn't want it anymore, or she could have abused the animal and provoked the attack.
The cat should have been taken to the shelter and quarantined where it could have been observed. If it was not aggressive, then the woman obviously lied and the cat could have been adopted by a good family. On the other hand, if the cat continued to be aggressive and/or began to show signs of illness, it should have been humanely euthanized and tested for rabies.
By acting as they did, those officers not only cruelly abused the poor animal and sent it to a terrifying, slow, and painful death, but they might also have allowed the woman to contract a fatal disease.
Stupid, cruel, and inhumane.

We're beating the WatchTower !
by Simon in... in web traffic at least .
our current ranking: 26,434. their ranking: 26,911 .
what's interesting is that if you view the figures for both, the wts site gets a lot of visits from people (big name) who then view very few pages.

Prophecy.....in ten to twenty years, I predict that the Watchtower Society will either be defunct, or totally mainlined and looking like any other church in Christendom.

The dubs at "Witness World" are discussing UN involvement!!!!!
by somebodylovesme ini am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.

does obed post here?
He has popped in from time to time. I think that his user name was ObieFernandez. Is this the person you knew?

Ahh, I just checked out and beliefnet and found the debate board you mentioned, RedhorseWoman - I see you are a host! :)
Um...yes, yes I am....and it caused quite an uproar for awhile, but they've gotten used to it. For some reason, the JWs seemed to think that a host had to be absolutely neutral--which, if you check around, you'll find is almost impossible for me. Being neutral, however, is not a requirement for a host there, and they actually encourage spirited discussions, so it's pretty interesting. Most of the JWs there seem pretty open-minded and they don't mind discoursing with "apostates." That doesn't mean, however, that getting them to acknowledge a point is any easier than anywhere else. LOL
As is typical, however, the two boards that are reserved for JWs only--the JW and Learn About JWs boards--are pretty quiet. The debate board, however, can get wild at times.

did there used to be more true Witness message board sites?
There used to be a lot more than there are now. The biggest one was Witnesses.net, and then Witnessesonline that started up when Big Ray, who was a moderator on Witnet decided that the board was becoming too "open" for the true JWs. At that point in time, there were also a lot of smaller boards that were around, but most of those shut down fairly quickly because they would just go stagnant after a couple of months. There are a couple of JW boards on MSN, but they generally aren't too active. I think that there are probably some private boards out there that are kind of like prohibition speak-easies....knock three times, state who recommended you, and give the secret password. LOL
Those who post on those boards aren't particular amenable to any ideas that might cause them to think....they generally gravitate toward fluff. The ones that try to be less restrictive don't seem to last long.

This whole "cloak and dagger" thing is bizarre. I was thrown off one of Obed's first sites when I first began posting on the internet. I had no idea that "spies" would go and check all of the ex-JW boards.
I later joined Witnesses.net (Obed's next venture until he apostacized) just to read...and to occasionally comment. By that time he had become a little more open, and some open discussions went on there. I never said too much, though, and eventually I was invited to become a moderator....talk about absolute shock!!
Obed, who was on his way out, mentioned this board when it first started, and I joined here under another name...my current one. Even though I tried to be careful, there was one admin at Witnet who was sure that RedhorseWoman here and Coolwater there were one and the same, but she couldn't verify it. So...she started asking members of this board about me. Shortly thereafter, Obed announced that he had left the JWs, and the site was shut down.
Since then I've joined one or two JW boards, but they are so boring that I generally never post and barely ever read there. The one place that I've found is great for debating sensitive issues with JWs openly is on Beliefnet. There is a Debate board there (and several members from here have gone there on occasion) and it is run under the rules of the site owners, who have no JW ties. There are some pretty interesting--and heated--discussions that occur over there, and occasionally there is a JW who questions things...not much....but it does happen.

This will probably not be particularly encouraging for you, but I will relate my experience with the issue of baptism annulment.
My husband and I had both been inactive for quite awhile, and during that time my husband began smoking again. He had previously given it up before his baptism. We eventually determined that we wanted to re-activate ourselves, and began attending the local KH in the town to which we had just moved.
We were studying with the elders and all seemed well, but my husband began asking a lot of questions, and the elders started to get nervous. They thought he was being difficult, but, in fact, he was just trying to clarify things in his mind, since he had originally gotten baptised after only a couple of weeks of study in the Truth book, and he did it mainly so that I would date him. He never had a real understanding of what baptism meant, and he hadn't even fully understood the doctrine.
In any event, the elders began looking for something that they could use to get out of what they perceived as a bad situation, and at one of the studies, they noticed a clean ashtray that I had out on the coffee table for decoration...or for use by company. They asked pointblank if my husband was smoking, and he replied in the affirmative.
They then told him that he had 30 days to quit, or he would be disfellowshipped. I asked them about the possibility of baptism annulment because of the circumstances under which he had gotten baptised. I stressed to them that quitting smoking in 30 days would be almost impossible due to other circumstances, and that both of us were really hoping to re-activate ourselves, and a disfellowshipping would pretty much kill the whole thing. Somehow, they couldn't understand why someone who had been inactive for ten years would object to attending the Hall and being ignored for months or years.
They said that they would check into it and pray about the matter and get back to us. When they called to tell us of the JC time, I asked about the annulment, and the elder assured me that he had prayed about it and they had decided to annul the baptism. I was pretty elated about the matter, until we got to the JC...at which time they disfellowshipped my husband.
Annulment is not something they want to do under any circumstances. Perhaps your case might be different, but from our experience in this, the promise of baptism annulment was just a ploy to get us to cooperate with them in accomplishing their real plans.
