Demonised Smurf Doll

is anyone out there familiar with the now almost legendery jw "true" story about the demon possessed smurf doll that got up and stormed out of the watchtower study screaming "that's a load of crap" in response to an answer to a question being given by a brother concerning the final destruction of satan?

i'm also interested to learn of any similar incidences.

Yep, Pokemon and Harry Potter. There were some pretty good discussions going around on Wit.net a couple of months ago about these.

Many JW's felt that Pokemon and Harry Potter books were okay, but there were others who pointed out that many of the Pokemon characters used psychic powers, and Harry Potter is a child wizard.....both things just reek of demonism.

Many have been the JW children whose loving parents have sat them down and explained to them about the evil psychic powers of Pokemon. They have been SO proud of little Ben or Melissa when the children tearfully handed over their Pokemon cards because they didn't want to displease Jehovah by dabbling in demonistic practices.

I haven't heard any "urban legends" involving these evil entities so far. I guess the ever-vigilant JW parents have nipped the problem in the bud this time.

ok, since it was so easy to get on here i'm assuming that this place is also over run by wts critics...but anyway!.

i've read a plenty of wt mags and got sucked in enough by the whole thing to go to a few meetings and do a bible study( which i wouldn't really call a study, since we just read one of their books).i soon broke of the whole thing and didn't even read another mag for about 6 years...6 months ago i wandered into h20 out of curiosity and ended up reading up on the arguments against the wts.. i have a simple question, and its probably very naive to ask this...but why is wts so afraid of debate?...there are plenty of sites arguing against the wts...but none for, apart the official site which doesn't address the issues raised by so called "apostates" anyway.. if the wt has the the truth why dont they just refute the the arguments against them instead of shutting up shop and labelling anyone who questions them an "apostate?

" or from satan or something.. i'm really beginning to think that all this wt business is just waste of time, that if i were to go to kh and ask questions that i have, i'm more likely to be labelled a trouble making agent of satan rather than be taken at face value as someone with serious questions.

Do you mean.......it's NOT true? Oh my. Then perhaps the great Pokemon scare is also.....a hoax? And maybe.....the Harry Potter books are just stories and NOT attempts to pull us all over the the "dark side". [8>]

The 1914 Generation change

i was over on the thread about the blood policy and got to thinking how easy it is to just accept a change and after awhile people even forget all about how important it was at one time.

if the society does change the blood policy how long will it be before it is just accepted, and brothers and siters don't even recall the previous stance on the issue?.

this got me thinking about the change in the 1914 generation.

The best games for the PC were the original text-based Zork adventures. Since everything has gone graphical, I really like the Gabriel Knight series. They're just like getting engrossed in a good novel....with puzzles.

Reasons for becoming a JW?

i'm curious about the reasons for becoming a jw.

if you were raised a jw, were you pressured into baptism?

if you weren't raised a jw, what were the deciding factors?

I was 7. My sister picked up some magazines from someone doing street work, and being 14 and searching, she was hooked.

A brother came to visit my Mom and convinced her that the WT study and public talk had a Sunday School for children. Mom wanted me to have a good religious upbringing (she had been sending us to the Salvation Army, but she didn't feel it was enough.....I liked it).

I can remember sitting through that first meeting thinking that this was NOT a Sunday School. The love-bombing of Mom began and she was hooked. She and my Dad had a very stormy relationship, so the JW's were a haven for her.

I went because I had to, but eventually the programming "took". I got baptised at 13....way too young. I was not absolutely sure that this was what I wanted to do, but everyone else was getting baptised, and the pressure was intense.

I started having questions even then, but I just pushed them away and blamed myself for being weak.
I no longer push them away.

Donations for Literature?

i have seen some from canada, the u.s., and australia, and england.

so i wanted to ask about the "donation" arrangement for literature.. somebody in another thread mentioned the "double" payment thing.

Saddle Sore

redhorsewoman-i had the most wonderful time riding.

today even if it was in the 90's and the humidity the same.

i only fell off once, lol, in the water no less.

7, glad you had a good time. I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but the more you ride, the less sore you'll be. Once you learn to balance and go "with" the horse, you'll get tired (after all, you DO use a LOT of muscles...more than you'd think), but you won't be sore.

We don't go out too often, but when we do, we ride for about 2 to 3 hours....it's great.

Glad you brought the treats for the little guys....I KNOW they appreciated them.
