I missed my friends initially, but I found that as the years went on, all of the ones who were really friends are now also ex-JWs, and we have been re-establishing our friendships.

JW Friends
by Sassy inif you are no longer associating with jws either from fading or daing or being df'd, do you miss your jw friends?
have you found over time that the void was filled and you no longer needed them?
did you in fact find out your life was happier without them?

I'm glad that you have been getting helpful information, Purple. I was out for quite a few years, and honestly thought that I was pretty much over it. However, most of those years were prior to my getting on the internet, and although I was free, I also thought I was totally alone.
Getting online and discovering that there were thousands out there just like me who understood what I was going through was a real source of comfort.
BTW, I've always heard that BOrg stands for Brooklyn Organization.

The really sad thing is there was a time when we did fall for this stuff.. it did make sense somehow...
Well, they don't start you out with the ridiculous doctrines. They start out with those that make sense, and that appeal to people......paradise earth, no more sickness, no hellfire, loving God, etc. etc. It's only after you've bought into the more reasonable doctrines that they ease you into the off-the-wall stuff. By then, you've accepted the basic, sensible doctrines and it's easier to accept those doctrines that don't make quite as much sense. It's kind of a "well, they were right about that other doctrine, so they must also be right about this one....I just don't fully comprehend it yet." And then they build from there. Once you're hooked, you're much more likely to accept doctrines that, if they were told to you right at the beginning, you would laugh and reject them outright. That's what mind control is all about.

How did all the animals fit on Noah's Ark?
by hooberus in.
many skeptics assert that the bible must be wrong, because they claim that the ark could not possibly have carried all the different types of animals.

What became of the arguments of the "first edition" of Problems with a Global Flood?
Well, silly, second edition doesn't mean that the first edition arguments were trashed. All it means is that there were ever so many MORE arguments that needed to be added that they found it necessary to come out with a second edition.
Desperation mounts in the Creationist camp.

Are you serious? Exactly which animals are in the class of "many animals" that don't need daily feeding?
snakes, lions, tigers, etc.
Okay, valid point. However, the animals that would be needed to feed these non-daily feeders would have to be fed every day, and that actually means that there would be MORE animals needing to be fed than had been originally anticipated. Where, exactly, did Noah stash these "feed" animals? Since there was no refrigeration on the Ark, he would have had to bring scores of additional animals on board to be slaughtered and used as food.
Which animals are you aware of that would not trample their food and make it inedible if a large amount was thrown in their enclosures.
Partially trampled food is not inedible. Feeders also work.
Partially trampled food in a tiny enclosure in which the animal also defecates, and which, as Woodmorappe implies, would not be cleaned up every day--in fact, couldn't be cleaned up every day because of time constraints--would be inedible and dangerous to feed to the animals. Feeders are an interesting idea, but feeders take up quite a bit of room, which they didn't have, and would also be dangerous for animals attempting to keep their footing on the deck of a rolling ship.
Hibernating animals also need specific conditions in which to hibernate, and barring the provision of those conditions (which is highly unlikely) the animals would NOT be in total hibernation and would still need to be fed.
I never said that they would never need to be fed.
You certainly implied it. So, since this isn't what you meant, let's just add these partial hibernators back into the feeding schedule. Oops....can't do that....no time.
Hibernating animals also lose condition during their period of hibernation. Exactly how do you suppose that these half-starved animals would be able to survive after getting off the Ark if they had spent over a year without food or water.....well, actually that point is moot, since NO animal could survive in hibernation for over a year without food or water.
I never said that that they would have to go "for over a year" without food or water.
Even if they didn't go the entire year, which they couldn't anyway, they would still be debilitated after their hibernation period and would be unlikely to survive the harsh, nearly barren, post-Flood conditions.
I may do some of the rest later.
Oh, please do. This is fun.

What is the appeal of Watchtower Farm and Patterson?
by Never Was ina little background on me.

Very interesting question, and very interesting to view an outsider's opinion of the tours. LOL While I was a JW, I must admit that visiting Bethel or the Watchtower Farm in Wallkill (Patterson wasn't built at the time) was just the epitome of the word vacation. At various times, the congregation would rent a bus and plan a trip to either of these places as a special "treat" for the congregation members.
Seeing everyone working selflessly in "unity" for "God's purpose" was something akin to reaching Nirvana. We could all envision ourselves working together in the "New System" without the influence of Satan and his evil, worldly minions.
It's interesting to read your opinion of how cultish it all appeared to you, whereas every good JW views the exact same things and deems them wonderful because they indicate "true unity."
Thank you for sharing your perspective.

This discussion has left out the problems for all vegetation. Very few species of land plants plant can withstand a year of immersion in salt water. (But i forgot that the seas were not salt until volcanos spewed salt into them after the flood. lol)
Ah, but that was next on the agenda. On another board, I challenged a Flood supporter to take a plant and stick it in a bucket of water with the water deep enough to cover the entire plant (didn't have to be salt water...fresh would do) and stick it in the cellar for just a month....then let us know the results. For some strange reason, she declined to do so.
