Is the UN really the disgusting thing?
by StarTrekAngel inbeen dwelling on this for a while.
was there any particular history on this or anywhere where the wt picked up someone else's doctrine?.
in most cases, the bible uses the word "disgusting thing" to refer to idols, idolatry and false religion.

The ridiculous thing is how they call the UN 'boastful' for simply hoping to establish peace and save children from dying in war and prevent disease and poverty (UNICEF, anyone?) as if their motives were bad. -

The UN is a mostly amazing somewhat flawed organization.
I think witnesses hate it because they see God's Kingdom as a competitor to earthly governments, and an org hoping to create peace between nations without God intervening and Armageddon happening first is disgusting to them.
I agree with Londo that it's Rome, and think Babylon the Great is Rome too.

New Apostate: Tempest in a Teacup
by Tempest in a Teacup infirst post on here.
i've been lurking for 3-4 years and i mean i've been a mega lurker, doing marathon reading sessions for months or weeks.. sometimes i proceed by researching specific topics, or posters; other times just reading current discussions.
i'm particularly fond of "old" post, i.e 10-12-15 years ago.. i have laughed, smiled, got mad, cried etc, just reading some threads here.. as you can see i suffer from some kind of "accute lurkitis".

Yes I'm very curious about what part of the world you are in. South America? Southern Europe? Africa? You are very eloquent, do not feel self conscious about your English!
I, like you, am not turning atheist, ever, but like DofC could not fake it. That period of fading out was the most hellish period I ever went through. I am very outspoken, and to bridle my tongue and just suffer through the BS was miserable. But also, I found what path I wanted to go on during that time.
It's surprising you never want to get out of it, and I'm hoping later in life you can live free eventually. It's much better on the outside, but you don't realize it yet.

Garrett, you realize, after learning ttatt, that the witnesses are just like any other extremist group. The Amish have decided modernity is bad, so they live without machines and modern clothing. The witnesses have their own extreme ways. Since the time of Jesus, people besides Jews were acceptable to God, and their customs and diets too, aside from drinking blood and things sacrificed to idols. There was an outreaching. Paul said where some like to make certain days more special than others, that was their business. Witnesses don't read those scriptures.
Are some of these holidays pagan in origin? Partly. But I think what the Catholics did in the 300's was one of the better acts of humanity Catholicism has ever practiced....integrating some of their customs to make them Christian, instead of wiping them out, making Christianity easier to embrace. The early Christians did the exact same thing towards the Gentiles, it's all over the New Testament. The witnesses are stuck in the Old Testament.

Most of them. Christmas IS the most wonderful time of the year. What better thing to do during the darkest, shortest days of the year, than have a Festival of Lights?? Brilliant idea. And it's so cozy.
Easter is an amazing holiday if you go to church. I couldn't care less about the eggs and bunnies (tho it's fun for the kids) but the celebration of Jesus' death and resurrection gets me every time. It's a very meaningful time starting with Ash Wednesday and Lent.
Halloween, I hate the ugly stuff but pumpkin carving is great, and celebrating fall and trick or treating. Thanksgiving is the yummiest meal of the year. Don't give me no lines about 'but we are thankful to God EVERY day.' Shoot, even the Hebrews had thanksgiving and seasonal festivals. Witnesses, they have NOTHING. They have darkness. They don't mark the seasons with anything. Mother's Day and Father's Day are nice, and no, it doesn't have anything to do with goddess worship (and Father's Day was supposed to be what pagan thing exactly??)
Birthdays are important milestones of life. Most depressing thing is to be a kid witness and not get to celebrate your birthday. Thank goodness there were a few families that would rebel and cook their kid their favorite meal on that day, at least.

Unity: the theme for the monthly TV program
by leaving_quietly inthere's been numerous discussions about the singing cart thing in this month's video.
i decided to watch at least a portion of the rest of the program though because sometimes things are said that are interesting to pick up on.
this one started off on the topic of unity, and, unbelievably, herd talked about brainwashing and how we like to have our brains cleaned.

Lq, my mother used to say the exact same thing about brainwashing...'some people call us brainwashed, but this is a good thing, our brains are washed clean!!!'
Gotta say I never agreed it was a good thing. Think I've been a quiet rebel my whole life.
i am surprised someone at the top said that, too.

by stuckinarut2 ini have to thank tv.jw!!!
(im not putting the complete link, but you know what i mean).
after showing my wife the 'trolley song' as we now call it, she was rolling on the floor in embarrassment and shock.. she shook her head, and was clearly troubled by what we watched.. little by little, the org is actually helping more to wake up!

Xanthippe...but it is ridiculous they would call their doctrine 'simple', who can keep up, and fully understand, all the shifts about the little flock etc, nothing so convoluted and fluctuating is found in 'babylon the great' -

mosquitos, and vampire bats.
by brandnew insince everything in life is supposed to be created by god, why did he create mosquitos, and vampire bats?.
mosquitos and vpbats live by taking in blood from other animals, and well humans too.
so my question is.....why would he forbid blood transfusions , when he made creatures who live off of others blood?
