Funny story about dumb JW rules
by cookiemaster insome years ago (the year when i got baptized), i was at a district convention (or whatever they call them these days) with my best friend.
he had a part in one of those acting parts at the convention (i have no idea the term jw's use for them in english).
anyway, we were both seeing through the bullshit of the borg but weren't aware at the time of this forum or other "apostate" groups, nor of the full extent of the perversity of this religion.

That makes ALL the difference, if your spouse exited WITH YOU. I've been super lucky too. If I had known it would have turned out this well it would have saved me a LOT of worry going through it! -

What is dating as a JW like
by UFCFan infirst off i want to say that i'm a teenager which makes my situation interesting.
i don't want to give too many details in case someone i know reads this but i'm between 14 and 18, homeschooled, and i've been awake for around one or one and a half years.
i already have a plan to attend usc or wisconsin university if i'm smart enough to get in and then move to san jose and try and get a job working for a hs football team or with a soccer team, since i want to coach sports or be an agent.. now, this all sounds great in theory but there's one thing i've been thinking about that makes me doubt my plan.

I totally agree with finally awake and sowhatnow. You aren't a believer anymore...she most likely will stay in, unless you've talked to her about this and know you are both of the same inclination. If you do stay and date her and she's a real witness, you might be hot for her, but eventually it WILL be miserable not being i agreement about the religion. You will want to live your life, she will want to not let you. You will be pressured to get married very soon, because you will want to get physical.
If you've talked about the religion and are in agreement, your chances are better. But in either case, GO TO COLLEGE. When in college write and text her and stuff. See if she is agreeing with you. Talk about meaningful things. If she's witnessy, you might meet someone else you like just as much. Your pond is currently pretty small.

The issue wasn't wearing a size medium shirt, it was wearing a shirt with medium sized letters on them (Nike, maybe? Coke?) they tell you you can't get baptized in any shirt that has words on it, it's too 'worldly'. I wonder if a shirt with THEIR logo on it would be ok. :) -

I'm not speaking of anyone in this thread when I say that, I am speaking esp of the vehemence of right wing media which both projects and fuels the racism of America. -

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

I find it interesting that you say a collective vs. individual mentality in reality doesn't exist...when each of us here has experienced this reality directly in our own lives.
And most of us have, as well, fled to the 'woods' and rebuilt our lives on our own.

I am absolutely sure that most of this unprecedented vehemence is fueled by racism. Millions of people in this country still can't believe we elected a black president. -

Had a major blow out
by freemindfade inmy mom was emailing a group thread of rhetoric about isis and armageddon, and i finally got sick of it and said some pretty intense harsh things about ideals, and wishing for armageddon.
then it went back and forth like some debate, all the while i am holding back unloading serious ttatt on my family.
i put a whole bunch of scriptures where the wonderful yahweh committed infanticide.

You only have to not be fully who you want to be for about 2 years, pbrow. That's all takes and for many of us who still want to talk occasionally with family it's worth it. -

No one could ever accuse ayn rand of subtlety. Anthem was just what I needed at the right time. Also loved the fountainhead, have yet to read atlas shrugged but that's on the list.
One can enjoy reading an author without agreeing with all of their ideologies.

WTS competition
by Half banana injust now 10am friday morning, had a phone call from central london to tell me that opposite the houses of parliament outside westminster tube station the wts (wobbly trolley society) are standing there being overshadowed by others with loudspeaker and taller placards declaring "jws are a cult".
sounds like fun!.
but will this sort of publicity harm or benefit the jw org?.

I remember protesters outside our district convention with signs. You had to walk by them. I remember saying to myself 'look down, and don't read the words. Don't read the words don't read the words!'
funny to end up here now and realize it for what it was.
