  KH 1st timer, could use some advice

  hey people, .

  i am soon going into a kh for the first time and i could use some advice around etiquette etc.

  i know next to nothing besides the fundamental beliefs of jws, i personally dont believe in any religion, and that stance isnt ever going to change, however i don't want to come across as rude or disrespectful.

  Definitely stand your ground in the christmas/birthdays. However your children WILL be made to feel very guilty for continuing to celebrate them, so like I said, make sure you reach them that they have their own minds and don't need to be bossed around or made to feel bad by doing things differently than others.

  your wife wants you to go to the memorial first because there's lots of visitors at the memorial and it's not so unusual for new people to be there. You won't make as much of a scene as going to a regular meeting.

  WT is trying to scare off memorial partakers

  i don't know how many of you still participate in the sunday wt study, but i unfortunately still do.

  even though i was asleep half of the time, i did notice something i thought i should share with the rest, in case you haven't noticed.

  a lot of the paragraphs were worded strongly against partaking and used clear language of intimidation and discouragement toward anyone thinking of partaking.

  Hypocrites, They not only block themselves from the kingdom of heaven but block off others too.

  Whats so silly is that 1. They took the 144,000 number literally in the first place. It was probably a hatred of Christendom that made them think that only a few would make it (themselves, of course). And 2., that once their numbers were growing and they were reaching 100,000, they thought, whoops! Let's invent another class of people here who aren't going to heaven. Let's hype up the paradise so some will find it appealing before making the announcement.

  Pretty similar to what they've done with the interpretation of 'generation' in the last few decades. Conveniently receiving 'new light' just before things get too far along. Seriously, what a joke of a religion.

  A relatively new JW term - "Given Ones"

  i apologize if this has already been addressed.. i'm just having a look over at jw talk and came across a very interesting thread talking about the terms used within the organization, it is a real eye opener.

  for instance, they no longer use the term society because to non believers it looks too cultish and implies that they may be secretive.

  funny thing is that reading the whole thread makes them look so cultish and shows their secretive behaviour because the keep being told by the higher ups that there are more changes to come.

  We just bought 2 pies to celebrate, because we celebrate EVERYTHING.

  Hrm, what could the WTBS say....it is worshipping science? (And you know how they truly feel about science).

  A pi day as perfect as this one only comes around once a century. Will the paradise earth be here before the next one?? How many 'generations' would that be, :D.

  in his comments and talks, he loves to include the kind of details that would leave listeners wondering who his comment/talk is about.

  he seems to see himself as a jw behaviour expert and drops titbits whenever he's behind the mic.

  Gifts from my old hall..

  so, it seems the hall i used to attend before my latest one got to hearing that i "disappeared".

  so today, i went to the post office to pick up a package.... i decided to try to face reality and open it... what i found were multiple letters and wrapped gifts.

  I'm glad you didn't read the letters, they would have just made you feel guilty. But it does show that they cared about you enough to send them. So take that positive slant on it: you are worthy of love and care. No you can never go back to that unhappy place!. But some sort of response would be nice of you, and expected. Maybe a letter back to the person who you think had the idea? A brief note of appreciation for them making you feel loved.

  Leaving Christendom for the Kingdumb Hall

  most of us old timers left behind a stable, respected, religious heritage in our disillusioned haste to join a stupid cult.. as i recall, there was no rite of dissociation required - no reason offered to your church, no resignation required - it was a non-event from the dubs viewpoint.

  what was your experience?

  were you expected to do or say anything as you abandoned your spiritual heritage to become a drone in the watchtower hive?.

  It was the witnesses that required you write a statement to your old church...to completely 'wash hands clean' of ones former religion. The churches usually do not/did not require this of people leaving, and certainly not have new members write a letter to their old church.

  This kind of action is 'needed' because of the vitriol witnesses have towards other churches.
