Ray Franz was an Idiot
by vinman inray franz who gave us insight into the gb due to a crisis of conscience was an absolute moron, with absolutely no critical thinking skills whatsoever like all of us have.
i mean, to have a conscience based on some magic man in the sky.. how stupid can you be?
in search of christian freedom?

He's making a statement. I believe vinman likes Ray Franz but is stating that he was a Christian, so why don't people here call him an idiot. -

I think vinman's point is, most here admire this man, yet many here are very strong in their anti Christianity and anti theist stance. -

What Convinced you to Leave?
by LaurenM ini've been posting here a lot, but these last few weeks have been very difficult for me.
anyways, lately, i've been thinking about confessing everything i've done to the elders and going back, but deep down, i don't really think it's the truth...so my question is, what convinced you it wasn't the truth and that leaving wasn't a horrible decision that everyone in the truth makes it out to be?

I'm thinking you feel really alienated these days, and kind of in a state of limbo. I don't know if you still live with your parents and how much control of your own life you have, but you need a friend or counsellor to talk to who is not a witness. We apparently aren't doing it for you, you need a one on one in real life. I don't know what the appeal of the elders is for you, but it sounds like you are feeling lonely and desperate and lost. Can you walk into another church and talk with the pastor there? Anything, but you need to talk to someone. -

Helen Keller is not a hero
by StopTheTears infew realize just how wicked some of the most revered people in history were.
helen keeler (1880 to 1968) was a wolf in sheep's clothing, no hero.
keller was a communist.

Not a single person is all good or all bad. Despite what you wrote above, I think helen Keller was MOSTLY good. And she didn't live to see what the negative aspects of communism were, like you have. Stop thinking in black and white. -

Vinman some people on here left the JW's in the 60's and 70's! They don't seem to be constantly obsessed with this site, but they do pop in regularly. Maybe in the process for us, there is a transition from mostly needing support to mostly giving support, as our lives stabilize. We are here for eachother. This is all pretty new for you. You've been through a really huge trauma. Don't be hard on yourself. You are going through a midlife crisis right now, and that's ok. I understand you don't want to shock your wife. But you know what, GET that motorcycle. You don't have to buy the whole 'im so tough' motorcycle gear...but do get some protective clothing. Invite your wife along. Make sure you get one with a comfy back seat. And then take some awesome little road trips together. Be very cautious and safe of course, but it's time to do something you love.
also, look into your community college, see if there's anything you want to learn about. Painting class, ceramics, photography, music, history. You've got your own time now. If you occupy yourself with hobbies, you will obsess less about your past and move on with your life. I like you here and hope you still visit often, but you need to balance this with your current life interests. I believe you still have to go to meetings so exploring other churches might not be an option for you now. I know you are still a believer like me, read C.S. Lewis. Actually the Narnia series was a part in me waking up. I read it to my children.
Lol I love listless witness' comment about being a doorbell/doorpost/front garden connoisseur!!! Yep.

Cognitive Dissonance Runs Deep
by vinman inwhile it is true that maybe 1 or 2 things woke you up (like myself), it is interesting to reflect on the reality of what you did not believe, even if you were a true believer and would of died for the organization.
here is my list (not a complete list, i'm sure their is more).
what is your list like?.

Vinman I never believed any of those either.
Also, that resurrected to earth would never marry. If God was satisfying the delight of every living thing, surely that wouldn't be true.
that dinosaurs lived a very long time before humans, and they obviously were violent. All that armour and all those teeth.
that the flood was not worldwide, but regional.
That homonids existed and were human like. Just because we don't understand something fully doesn't make it not possible.
that there was a big bang.
that jesus wasn't Michael.
That blood should be used to save a life.

What woke you up?
by Israel Ricky Gonzales inin march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.
so what woke me up?
an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

I was going through a very inward spiritual crisis nobody knew about (probably because of associating with worldly people on a hobby site), doubting everything, and realizing these worldly people are actually really loving and true friends, when I was assigned to give one of those talks they only gave you a scripture with and no other resources. I think our cd rom was scratched and unplayable. So I did what I always do when I want to research something....look online. I got interpretive analyses of this scripture from religious scholars and who knows who else, but what was written affected me deeply. It made me truly appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus for the first time in my life. I gave the best talk I have ever given. It was in a back room, but man, was it passionate.
