Do You Think President Obama Is Muslim?
by minimus ini really think that he is.
not that it's a bad thing...

I am absolutely sure that most of this unprecedented vehemence is fueled by racism. Millions of people in this country still can't believe we elected a black president. -

Had a major blow out
by freemindfade inmy mom was emailing a group thread of rhetoric about isis and armageddon, and i finally got sick of it and said some pretty intense harsh things about ideals, and wishing for armageddon.
then it went back and forth like some debate, all the while i am holding back unloading serious ttatt on my family.
i put a whole bunch of scriptures where the wonderful yahweh committed infanticide.

You only have to not be fully who you want to be for about 2 years, pbrow. That's all takes and for many of us who still want to talk occasionally with family it's worth it. -

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

No one could ever accuse ayn rand of subtlety. Anthem was just what I needed at the right time. Also loved the fountainhead, have yet to read atlas shrugged but that's on the list.
One can enjoy reading an author without agreeing with all of their ideologies.

WTS competition
by Half banana injust now 10am friday morning, had a phone call from central london to tell me that opposite the houses of parliament outside westminster tube station the wts (wobbly trolley society) are standing there being overshadowed by others with loudspeaker and taller placards declaring "jws are a cult".
sounds like fun!.
but will this sort of publicity harm or benefit the jw org?.

I remember protesters outside our district convention with signs. You had to walk by them. I remember saying to myself 'look down, and don't read the words. Don't read the words don't read the words!'
funny to end up here now and realize it for what it was.

Breaking away from the JW programming and mind control
by suavojr init amazes me how much power mind control can have over your emotions, your behavior and thoughts.
let me explain, apathy has taken over a close family that my wife and i care about.
the cognitive dissonance within this family is huge.

we have so long associated families that are fading or leaving as being families that fall apart or that are going down a destructive road. You might just be feeling a sense of loss and worry for them.
The years I was fading away, I could calculate how much I still believed in the org in percentages. It takes a long time for these feelings to be completely gone.

What I really like about her is her well written literature and her celebration of and passion for the individual vs. mind control societies. Anyone who reads Anthem who has been a witness will identify strongly with it.
What I don't like about her is her crazed selfishness and thoughtlessness toward the disenfranchised.

I remember feeling like I had to smile like that all the time. In service, walking around at the d.c....couldn't wait to get home. -

Complete hypocrites. And unbelievable an 'anointed' 'sister' would say that about the bible. Something very sick going on here.
They will get further and further away from the bible and are moving into full on organization worship.
The book excerpts are buffoonery.

Is there anything about the JW's you still like?
by donny insome jw's on various postingshave asked me was there anything about the jw's i still agree with.
of course there are some things i agree with and some i partially do.
1. political involvement - while i do not agree with totally avoiding anything associated with politics, i agree that many of todays churches are way too involved in trying to sway their constituents beliefs.

The fact that I grew up turning to scriptures all over the bible is really useful now. Of course they tied scriptures together to prove something completely out of context...but having this skill helps in navigating around a bible. For that I am thankful.
And, I am thankful for the people I knew over the years. The charming elderly sisters, the humorous elders. The two girls I grew up with who also left. We get together now for our birthdays. There was a 'we're all in this together' aspect that drew people close together. Maybe that's what happens when you aren't allowed to associate with anyone else. But it's also kind of special. It's kind of family, with all the nastiness and jealousy that can often bring too.
