The poor and deprived life of JW children.
by Esse quam videri ini find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.
i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.
we went to meetings.

Ak, I feel the same way. It's frustrating when your children DONT dive in to school and want to do all the activities, even when they have the freedom!! At least I've got one who is getting older who loves to act in plays, sing in choirs etc! Finally I will get to live high school vicariously :). -

Your friend seems a bit delusional. The GB do not sit by phones all day taking questions from witnesses...'anointed' or not. Actually I don't believe they have EVER talked to a witness over the phone to answer a question. That's like saying 'get me Putin on the phone...there are things I would like to change about Russia.'
Your friend will definitely be 'watched' for even attempting this. I admire his courage and his integrity tho.

Would you give your life for those that shun you?
by Esse quam videri in'no one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.'.
many have been hurt by the practice of shunning.

The problem with that billboard is that it doesn't say Jehovah's Witness anywhere on it. So while it would be effective for witnesses who know what a Kingdom Hall is, it wont start anyone to question witnesses at a door. The ordinary person will look at it and go 'wha? I have no idea what that is about.' -

Anti-JW billboard going up in Texas
by sunny23 inthe first ever billboard has been crowd funded on reddit and will be going up.
i'm curious to know if it will cause a spark in any jw's who already have questions or doubts and lead them to research into the child abuse cases and lead them to the thought that the wt and gb are not inspired or gods mouthpiece.
at the very least it will provide people a topic of conversation and questions to the jw's who knock on their door: "so whats this whole sex abuse in kingdom halls thing about i saw on the billboard down the road?

Vidiot that's exactly where I stand, too. Eh, maybe I would give them my kidney tho if I was the only match for them. But they better talk to me after!!! -

The Divine Name in the NT: Some Reflections
by Let go of fear ini've been fascinated with this topic for some time now, almost to the point of obsession.
after researching the issue for several years, i have come to a conclusion/theory that i would love to receive some feedback on.
this theory of mine is one that will be somewhat unsettling to both those who believe the divine name was used in the original nt scripts as well as those who believe it wasn't.

Yeah me too giordano...it's not that I disliked the name jehovah (actually I think it's a beautiful name, I just don't use it anymore for the reason I stated above)... And it's not that I dont like the name Witnesses. But the two together is overkill!! Like 'hey get a mouthful of this, we're crazy!!' -

Lgof, the clincher for me was finding out that a monk used the vowels of Elohim and Adonai to supplement the consonants YHWH to create the name jehovah. It really is a made up name, not just a translation or pronunciation.
