What triggered your doubts / awakening?
by Tornintwo ini am sort of new here, used a different username for a while but things got 'difficult' at home so i've since been lurking.... what i would be really interested to know, if you don't mind sharing, is what it was that triggered your doubts and initial research which led to awakening, was it a bad experience, injustice, changed doctrine?
for me, it was seeing mistreatment of young ones in the congregation, they're under so much pressure and as soon as they go even slightly astray they are shunned, either informally (as bad associations which pushes them further into the 'world') or formally - with elders dying to throw the book at them so they even lose their family.... ...then reading about child abuse issues in the press.... ...which led me to silentlambs.
...then jw facts, this forum and coc, wham!

Has anyone read the studs Terkel book 'working'...it is a compilation of basically essays about people's various jobs and how they feel about them. I bet we could do something similar based on our individual experiences of either leaving or bearing with the witnesses. -

A funny moment... lol
by hardtobeme inwhen the rnwt was released, we were invited to go to the local assembly hall.. there was a sister right next to me and she started bragging that it was her 8th year in an annual meeting.
(typical thing, all spiritual).
when was time to sing, i listened to her beautiful voice.

And set by God on high
to be jehovahs agent

I've had doubts all my life, it's really hard to pinpoint when exactly they started. But being very young and told almost all the people on earth are going to be destroyed, and then looking around your classroom and imagining them getting eaten by crows, that does a number on you. How grotesque. I knew there were good kids there who didn't happen to be born witnesses and probably would never be. I knew this religion I was being brought up in was not normal, and I knew that there was crazy stuff in the world, and I thought wow, I guess my family is part of the crazy. Conversely, I always wanted to be a good kid and not make my parents sad about me. So I tried for a very very long time to go along with it. While doubting half the time and having faith the other half. But Evolution, Armageddon, the blood issue, the extreme stance on this natural thing called sex, all the name dropping, witness status worship, hatred towards general humanity, judgmentalism, modern day Pharisees, anti education....it eventually got to me and I could no longer 'make it work' anymore, since my own children were growing up and approaching baptism age. It was time to get out. Meetings during my fade started to get so unbearable I would read the bible straight through and in so doing found Christ. Then I really couldn't pretend anymore. There was a time limit to leave, I wanted to get out and join another church before rejecting Christ at the next memorial. My family is now free, Christmas is the best time of the year, and this freaking out about how to direct my kids on one very narrow little path to life is gone...they are making their own paths. -

JWs and their views on Sex
by campaign of hate inin the past i have read on this forum that the wt have a say in the "bedroom" of couples.
i thought that was a bit overkill at first, but recently i have come to conclusion that this is true.. the control administered by the wt cooperation on ones sex life is not on only intrusive, its damaging.
they control every aspect of ones thought and action, thus leading most down a path that said corporation wants them to tread.. this path is to get married young, and then eternal loyalty the the organisation.. so how can an organisation force you to get married young?.

The masturbating ban goes back to the days of ancient Israel, when population growth was the obsession. Any man spilling his seed on the ground was punished. Seed should be used to make babies. One would think that with the arrival of Jesus and the Law being replaced, especially as concerns Gentiles, masturbation would be a personal matter. Actually I think birth control should probably be considered as possibly altering the morality of sex, since most of the rules were set up to protect the family unit, so kids would have parents etc. if reliable birth control existed in the time of Moses, would the rules be quite so restrictive? It's something to consider. -

I think tons of witness married couples enjoy oral sex without even thinking it's bad or having any guilt about it. The watchtower comments about it were few and far between enough to not be taken seriously (at least by us) and truly, I had guilt my whole life, about everything else that I had ever done, but never about that! -
