Who were the Sadducees and the Pharisees?? Are there similarities between them and JW's??
by confuzzlediam inlast month, i had the privilege of traveling to jamaica with a study abroad group from my community college.
while there, we went to a place called my father's house in which severely disabled children lived when they had no one else to take care of them.
as part of their day, they hold worship in a small, outdoor meeting place.

Confuzzled, it is so true. Hits you like a ton of bricks. But also it's sort of a relief, cause you probably knew all along that something wasn't right, and you were constantly trying to MAKE it right in your own mind. It had to be right, it was the only 'right' there was. But ultimately you can't make it right because it's wrong, and it's a relief to finally realize that and your brain can stop doing cartwheels around that fact. You just have to figure out how to get out... -

Try Other Religions
by Sofia Lose insometimes i get a strong curiosity to start dabbling into other religions, other faiths, you know?
really different ones such as islam, judaism, hinduism, etc.. has anyone here looked into something else?
has your spirituality been satisfied by any other than christianity?.

Sofia, for me mainline Christianity has been very satisfying. If you go with a liberal church it's nothing like being a witness. But if you want to try other religions, here is my glib little assessment of each :).
judaism-good choice if Jesus is the one you have a problem with.
Hinduism-like Greek mythology, but people today still actually believe it's true.
islam-way too much like being a witness.
Buddhism-this is the one you may really want to look into. If the spiritual side doesn't appeal to you, the philosophical side probably will. Many people who have troubles with Christianity have found fulfillment with Buddhism or secular Buddhism.
atheism/agnosticism-many people make peace with their belief that there isn't or probably isn't a God. They can still have a sort of spirituality/spiritual experiences in everyday joys and a sort of holistic approach to life and as mentioned above, wonder at the world through science.
wicca and similar-these spiritualities celebrate nature and natural cycles. witch broom not required.

Noticing the witnesses are like Pharisees is something probably every ex witness experiences at one point!! So congrats :). ironically, you will often hear in talks how ridiculous Pharisees were with all their rules about what not to do on the sabbath, rules not in the bible but extremist expansions on the rules in the bible. Witnesses usually don't look at themselves and say 'oh. We. Do the same. Thing....' Unless they are going to one day be ex witnesses!

Robocall!! That's it! Tho I think it was a recording of a human voice. I wonder if this is widely sanctioned, or is this the first that anyone has heard of this? And does the witness running it get to count only the recording the first time, or all the time that the automatic calls are going out? Whoa, slick deal if it's the latter! -

Advice Needed - JW Grandparents
by What Now? inmy family has been out (inactive no meeting attendance or field service) for just over two years..
weve made many changes in our lives, including with our personal appearances (tattoos, piercings etc) that are a pretty obvious sign that we arent going back any time soon.
our families went through a period of time about a year ago when they made a lot of threats that if we left the truth, they wouldnt even be able to share a meal with us, they would stay loyal to jehovah etc.

Whew, thank goodness for your postscript, fiddler!!
It is so sad how, if the parents are disfellowshipped, the witness grandparents can choose to see the grandkids if they want, and work their way around it, and the disfellowshipped parents usually happily comply, because they want as much inter generational contact as possible for their kids.
But if the GRANDPARENTS are disfellowshipped, no way are they getting to see their grandkids. :( (flipper im hoping your daughter will be an exception!!)
Witnesses always get to call the shots. Who gave them the right to be in this position? Oh yeah, because somewhere along the way someone in the family was baptized, probably from social pressure. Change your mind, lose your family.

Indian Paradox
by fulltimestudent inwhile researching a comment on the long-running naga rebellion in india, i came across this charming image.
a woman wearing a burqua (so obviously muslim) walks her son to school.
its described as being a festival day, so the boy is dressed as the lord krishna.. from the indian newsnation: http://www.newsnation.in/photos/entertainment/only-happen-in-india-1021/slide1#more.

Apparently some Muslims are more tolerant and open minded than most JW's! It's sort of like if a witness let her son dress up like a magician for Halloween. or Thor!

Bible History
by bitsnbobs inhi all,i left the org in the late 90s.
not because of beliefs or the 1914/generation fiasco.
just thoughtlessness, hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance.

Aside from the 'woman' being interpreted as a symbolic God's heavenly organization, or whatever it is witnesses are saying now, Gen. 3:15 is an important verse for most Christians, as fortelling Jesus' coming and temporary death on the cross. -

They seem to be about 20 years behind on advertising concepts. Maybe in another 5 years there will be witness spam emails...
Right next to Russian brides and pharma online store ads there will be 'check out the best online Christian site! JW!' And the sheeples will go 'ooooh, they are so innovative!!'
