  2015 Regional Convention (Cleveland, Ohio) - No accounts report read? No video about abuse?

  i went to the convention this past weekend in cleveland with my wife and son.

  most of the session was the status quo, but here are some of observations that i believe are worth noting: .

  1. i did not see a lot of jw.org advertisements and the website was not mentioned a whole lot during the session.

  It's true, after you learn ttatt you pay WAY more attention to details! But yeah they never had an accounts report at the DC.

  "Guardians of the doctrines"

  i can't help thinking that there is something essentially wrong with gj's new description of the role of the gibbering biddies as guardians of the doctrines..

  guardians immediately take on a role of authority, (dont ever forget who is in charge!

  ) guardians outside of the legal sense of adoptive parent has another resonance, it sounds like the inhuman bullies in some dystopian novel about oppressive religious politics.

  so i ran into this brother whom ive known for a while and the conversation led into me being invited to come back to the kingdom hall.

  we talked for about an hour during which time i explained to him 607 being the wrong date and a lot of other stuff including the child abuse cases in australia.

  but what i wanted to relate was the last few minutes of our conversation.

  I don't know what's so blissful about living every day being told all that is wrong with the world (with a total avoidance of all that is right in the world) and that everyone you work with and go to school with is going to die a horrible death because they're not your religion, and you better not deeply pursue your talents and interests and passions, because you will just feel guilty you're not doing more for jehovah, and you better not have any goals for your life that take more than two years to complete, because that's not being spiritual, and you better not question what we say or keep your mind open to anything, and you better not throw a big party or wedding because who knows what will happen, and you better not read that science book because it contradicts what we say and you have to wear THESE clothes and spend your time THIS way and read THIS book and marry THIS person or else you will die.

  today as i had the old timey music playing and the song love potion no.

  9 came on, i remembered being reproved by a brother at a get together when i sang along to that same song.

  oh that song is spiritistic, blah blah.

  It's funny how serendipitous these memories can be. A simple song comes on the radio and BAM you're back in the witness world feeling guilty for a minute before remembering 'oh yeah, I'm free now!'

  Lol OFS! I don't know why the conductor ever calls on you, he must be desperate,...I can see it now, him looking all around the KH, PRAYING for a different hand to go up, and then swallowing hard, saying 'Br. OFS?' and then holding his breath...

  ok,....I just read your comment, wow!! I can't believe he doesn't get it. You definitely do tell it like it is, actually you sound like someone from ISIS, but apparently that's appealing to him.

  Leaving the org and marriage possibly ending

  i was raised a witness, baptized at 16, vacation pioneered, got married, etc.

  i was very much your typical witness and believed it was the truth until last summer.

  a very close relative of mine left the witnesses.

  You should help your cousin decorate his house, it would be lots of fun for you. Just keep it on the down low with your husband. Christmas lights are awesome. I am religious, and christmas is definitely religious for me, but it's also a celebration of light during the darkest days of the year. The pagans had a great idea, and Jesus is the light of the world, so it all ties together. :)

  in it it makes the point that the romans did not crucify robbers.

  Another one decides to leave

  well in a month where i had a friend of 20 years tell me "we can't kick it no mo" because i no longer go to meetings, i had an even older friend who is coming to visit me, call me and tell me hes out.. currently a high profile ms who gives talks out all over the place, the elders said they are recommending him for appt to the body in sep when the co is coming through.

  but nope......hes about to step down all together.. what did it?

  because i am not disfellowshipped, and soft peddle my issues with the org, i was able to speak to him about things like blood, and a couple other things.

  My husband had a similar reaction, wondering how our kids could ever be moral if we left the jw's. You forget what it is like from inside a KH, that they constantly tell you how no one else loves God and is immoral and that the whole world is satanic and basically a death pit. Hopefully, like my husband,his wife will start noticing people on the outside that are truly loving without conditions and her perspective will be changed. Once you learn a few things these gradual changes are inevitable, it just takes time. My husband came to a large church party at my new church and said he was surprised there were could be so many upright looking people under one roof. It's not what witnesses are conditioned to believe is possible.
