Going to school and being able to work more hours to pay the bills, its nice having tuesday night, thursday night, saturay morning and sunday morning free, thats like 20 extra hours to work!
Its also nice to play violent computer games (yay for GTA3!) and to party with friends and see R films. hehe.
Going to college is the most important thing to me also. I would never ever give it up.

You shouldnt bash other religions just because you see certain EXTRME members on the news and CNN tells you they are bad (like islam for example).
I have many friends in all religions and isn't a wonderful thing that we can accept those differences and move past them, and like eachother for who we are, not what we beleive?
In any event, you should have a full understanding of the religion before you even come close to a judgement. For the Islamic religion, I suggest you read up on it a little more. Keek in mind, there is also a difference between Islam and Muslim. The extrenists in the news are only a SMALL fraction of the religion, the general idea of the religion only represents a small fraction of the religion, and only acurately reflects the POLITICAL feelings of leaders and citizens of certain countries (Saudi Arabia, for example). For those who have read the Koran properly, and understand it, they allow their daugters to go to college, they have 1 wife, they do not beleive in killing those from other religions.
Open up your mind to other possibilities and you will see what I am talking about and maybe you won't be so bitter.
You also don't have to submit to a religion. You can be a very spiritual person and not conform to ANY religion...why are you so eager to find religion? Just beleive what you feel is rihgt and be accepting of those that feel differently. -

hmmm again, I dont fall into a catagory (yay!) and I doubt most do here.
I do not know if their is a god or not. I have not seen proof in either direction. Evolution to me does not disprove his existance, nor does the phrase "can you see wind? who made the flowers?" prove his existance.
I never lead a double life, I was pretty damn honest to everyone around me, which is why O got in trouble a lot. I grew up under the religion but never got baptized. Some of my family members just accepted that (which was cool), even my elder dad. If I disaproved of something (like the treatment of women) I asked many questions, protested, than dropped the subject for those who just didn't let up. People can believe what they want, I tried not to step all over that, thats what kept me sane and also kept elders from labeling me an apostate.
Also: SHAME ON YOU FOR TRYING TO LABEL! -

if someone shuns me, I shun them back.
Also, there is this one EEEEVIL lady that verbally abused me for a few years who I would NEVER EVER EVER talk to, she scares me. My whole family shuns her and I am happy for that. EEEVIL. she IS satan. Also her children who used to be my best friends shun me for no good reason at all, and I am starting to HATEHATEHATE them too. bastards. -

Happy JW Marriages the Impossible Dream?
by IslandWoman inwhile it is not impossible to have a happy marriage in the jw religion for many it is hard, for some it is very hard to maintain happiness in their marriage.
the watchtower raises the bar so very high in every aspect of life, marriage included.
the watchtower literature encourages a jw married couple to be practically perfect, or at least that is the goal set before them.

I will throw some of my experiences into this thread, it helps with perspective.
As a younger girl, I watched as I saw JW couples marry the FIRST person they dated, and never dated until they were "ready" for marriage, but to me, one isn't "ready for marriage" until they actually dated someone and had a relationship!
So they marry young, and they never grow as a couple. My sister did it, I almost did it. My sister was miserable for a while, especially when she had 2 children, it was a lot on her shoulders. Her husband was the one who worked, he didn't help out with the kids, or the house, it was her "duty" as a woman. They worked things out. She was really starting to get depressed and her husband was put in his place, my loving and RARE father and mother talked to him. My sister wanted to take some classes. She is working towards a degree, they both do almost equal work in the house now...and they are happier. Was it the society that helped? No, its the society that tells them to marry young, to marry the first person they date, not allow them to get to know eachother first, not allow them to even be alone.
In my later teens, I vowed to myself that I would NEVER marry a man that did not consider me his equal in very instance. Thats hard to find in the congregation. It was silly to me that I would end up falling in love with a JW guy, especially one like that. Keep in mind, you just fall in love with someone, you don't CHOOSE their religion, their skin color, and in some cases, their sex. So we hot 6 million JW out of 6 billion. Then only have are the opposite sex, then only 1/4 of them are in the age range. Thats 1 in every 8000 people in this world are in the correct catagory. What are the chances that your soul mate (or "the one") will even be in that catagory????
Well I found my love, outside the religion. He is more loving, and wonderful than an JW man could even DREAM of being. Not only do we have an equal relationship, but we are best friends and have a lot of fun with eachother...what JW can claim the same? Not only this, but I do not ever have to be afraid if I so choose to end the relationship. I do not have to fear for my life, fear being poor, or fear that my friends and family will reject be because I got an "ungodly" divorce if I was unhappy. But I think with the relationship I have, its quite clear that I will be with him as long as a possibly can, in a HAPPY relationship. -

Where to begin...
I was never baptized but grew up in the "truth", age 0 to 18. My Dad is an elder. He once was proud of me. I was daddys little princess, but too opinionated for my own good. One day he told me that I was once his favorite...but he was now only dissapointed in me. That was the last I could take.
I am attending college (a hard thing to achieve as a JW female, let me tell you) and I fell in love with a "worldly" guy in one of my classes. We have been engaged for 2 years now, getting married in December. We base our relationship on love, equality, and commitment...not outdated ritual and slavery. My parents have finally accepted this, something I fear is not common for others.
I was unpopular in the congregation, having always been independant thinking and opinionated female. I would get pissed when my brother would have a BOYS ONLY super-bowl party ("what does a girl care about football anyway?"). I grew sick of the ideas of men in the congregations...and never understood the servant-like beliefs of the women. The elders are cruel with the exception of a rare few and the young men are bred to be sexist. The congregation is intolerant of other faiths to an arrogant and hateful level. I do not see love any more.
I was a depressed kid too...go figure. No JW friends, and not allowed to have "wordly" friends. I am socially inept due to 18 years of limited social interaction and I am trying to make up for it now. I am 20 years old and now VERY happy with the way things have gone for me.
My sisters still shun me, but who needs em anyway. I have a best friend (my fiance) who makes me happy, and I am happy to be getting a fine education and life experience I deserver.
HI ALL!I am here now because I am always interested in other peoples perspectives, especially on matters I may be able to contribute in. thanks!
Also, where is this chat everyone keeps talking about? -

WERE YOU TREATED POORLY IN THE CONGREGATION?
by minimus inwhen you were associated in the congregation, were you treated in a way that made you feel like you were a 2nd class citizen?
how were you regarded?
were you the brunt of criticism or were you pretty much well-liked?

I still havn't made my introductiones yet...but this topic stuck out to me because I felt like I was abused.
For one, I was actually verbally abused by my then-bet friends mother. She would call me names, ("whore", "manipulative", etc.) and yell at me and continue to yell as I was crying.
I didn't have much friends, and eventually, my so-called best friend started to ignore me. A couple girls hung out with me out of pity I think, because I was depressed and my parents were worried so made sure people would hang around me. They were as transparent as windows. I wasn't part of the popular crowds or families either. Guys ignored me, etc. Oh did I mention I was an opinionated, open-minded, independant FEMALE, which you are all well-aware of, is not greatly looked on as being good.
