i have heard that the wt are offering other excuses other than wanting a libary czard.
does anyone know of any, and where if so can i get the information.
Nassau - I think that I have the some problem as The Old Hippy, the two blanks (your postings re: library cards) he refers to, appear as blanks also on my computer. Was this intentional or do I need to adjust my settings on the computer. ?
long time lurker, first time poster.
finally taking the plunge.
i started reading here and other sites last summer, after years of declining 'spirituality'.
Welcome No Apologies !
JT completely summed up all that we feel.
We were onlookers for quite a while, and then eventually joined in the comments on this board. We could equate with much that we read with our experiences in the organisation.
After 30 years in the organisation, we thought that the problems were just at congregation level with a few bad elders, until reading the posts here and also Ray Franz books - we then realised that it was endemic throughout.
If you speak to other brothers and sisters and they take no notice, don't be too disappointed, we have had this response too.
In our congregation there were four elders that we spoke to about the UN involvement, but nothing came of it. They feel it's far more important to wear the right coloured shirt and socks.!!
several days ago i posted a topic about how the newly reinstated could be disfellowshipped again for failing to attend meetings or particiapte in field service.
(this was based on the issue of lacking works that befit repentance.
) i used cautionary language about how this ""can"" happen, but was accused of making "dogmatic assertions" and that the organization book and the flock book never authorize such, and most of all the s-77 form sent into the society would trigger a co visit were it to state such things.
You are all so right about the power of the COs.
The cong. that I used to go to, were trying to buy a property (for a new KH), but one CO advised them against it because it wasn't suitable for disabled ones, (the meeting room was upstairs with no lift, only stairs), so the elders waited until we had a change of CO, and lo and behold the next CO was just the man ! He gave his blessing on the purchase of the hall, and to this day the disabled ones have to sit downstairs in a foyer-type room, with people going backward and forwards to the toilets and having very little association with others. Christianity ???
ok, so you believe that only 144,000 people will be in heaven at the end.
but, in revelations 7, it says that 144,000 from all the tribes of israel will stand be for the lamb and the throne of god.
and the it goes on to say the 12,000 from each tribe.
Welcome to the board thirdeye, good to hear your comments.
It is interesting that all of the book of Revelation is symbolic, except of course the 144,000 !! I look forward to more comments on this one.

as the ranks of jw's continue to deplete, what are your thoughts on meetings and assemblies being disrupted or heckled by angry ones as more eyes become open to this cult and the damage it has done.. anyone?.
dismembered
I've recently spoken (privately) to friends and family (even my own brother) - all JWs - about the UN scandal etc, but flabbergasted at their lack of interest, so I really don't think that anything would be achieved by a verbal outburst at meetings or assemblies, (eventhough I feel very much inclined to do this) I agree with others on the forum, that it would only strengthen their opinion of ones that had left the congregation.
a quote from panorama that i found very interesting:
what they did was keep a record of her fathers name and confession on a church database, a register of suspected and convicted paedophiles to be monitored.
we asked alison cousins to obtain a copy of her records using the data protection act ... there in black and white was proof that the jehovahs witnesses had known for three years that her father was a self confessed paedophile.
Thanks for that info Simon - yes, it's quite an eyeopener that they are charging the maximum.
As a registered charity it doesn't seem right, surely they should pay tax on this sort of income!!

I have recently requested a copy of any information that is held on their files, using the Data Protection Act.
I got a letter back (quite speedily!) requesting ten pounds (UK) and proof of identity. I have sent oft the money and am awaiting the info.
Perhaps they are receiving such a lot of requests that they are now charging for this service.
this is to alert all folks in canada and the united states that a civil court case will be going to trial on september 8, 2002 in the greater toronto area.
again this case is a civil case and not a criminal case.
the case involves one vicki boer who now resides in eastern canada.
Hello Vicky and husband. If we lived nearer we would certainly come and support you, we are in England, just a few miles too far away!!
We will be thinking of you both on the day, and may Jehovah give you the strength for the battle ahead!
well done Twink
