Investment departments in Bethel

i was a bethelite in london for many years then got reassigned to the field and then went on brd from the start of chelmsford right upto covid.. during my years at the branch i was sometimes asked to be on a team who went to homes donated to the branch when some older one died.. this happenes an awful lot, everything is left to the branch in the will.

the unbelieving family is furious they didn’t get left anything and sometimes they tried to get their elderly relatives possessions and there was a legal battle .

but in the end a team of us would go and empty the property and another team would clean it up and put it on the market to sell it for the worldwide work.. all the possessions were sorted into trash or possibly valuable .

Anyone here who served in London the Ridgeway Bethel last couple of decades?

I wonder how many have left the Borg since serving there and if they would ever come on this site?

I noticed before about how Peter Bullock was in charge of the vault full of gold and silver. I also knew Peter and I was actually in the vault once it’s crazy how much donated loot was held there.

I would love to hear from any other ex London bethelites who may have know about the vault.

I also remember going to change GBpounds into USD before a trip to the states. They ran out of dollars at the currency exchange desk and had to send someone to the vault to get some more. The process was so complex.

the procedure to go in the vault needed about five witnesses and the security brothers would all be informed so the cameras would start recording and everyone knew the cameras would be recording every movement.

There was fine art there, lots of antiques and valuable stuff that had been donated when someone died they left everything in the will.

loads of jewellery and even gold and silver bullion and coins.

I notice once again the GB are pushing to get everyone to leave everything to them when they die.

The poor unbelieving family who get robbed of their inheritance will just hate the GB even more than before

even elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.

they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.

i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

A Coin With a Remarkable History

over the years i have shared a few examples of objects i have found while metal detecting near my home in northumberland in ne england.

i live in a rural estate that was the site of a medieval village with a manor house and defensive tower.

many of the things i find illustrate the amazing history of the location.

That is such a good hobby Cofty. I love the history of silver as money.

In most languages there is only one word for silver and money, English is one of the few that there are two words. In the original Bibles languages everytime it’s says money it’s the same as saying silver.

I have a few genuine pieces of 8 from a ship wreck about the same time as your silver coins Cofty.

i do tend to lean towards evolution but creation at the very start because you can’t get life from dead matter.

but i’m open to the possibility of chance theory at the origin of it all.

I think there may even be the majority of those still in are having the attitude that it may be true but may not be.

They are staying in for the association.

I remember volunteering for BRD in Chelmsford and there is something very special about the JW brotherhood

Just met up with an old friend whose family grew up with mine.

I remember when the first Harry Potter came out their family loved it and all the books. In our congregation it was sort of frowned upon.

My old friend sort of said yes well it worth keeping these things quiet if it stumbles others. They said it so great being part of the congregation and the worldwide brotherhood even if it’s not true it’s worth it being a part of it all.

I remember having a good talk all those decades ago and now I think about it, I was kind of more PIMI than PIMO back then but this entire family was more PIMO then PIMI.

Only now do I realise and it really clicked with me. Now we talk about it openly that we just don’t know if the Bible is true and if it is are JWs nearest to the truth. We both admit to being more mentally not sure than mentally in.

But even after all these years they still choose to stay physically in and put on an act all these years. Go through motions but never lie, just say things like won’t it be wonderful when the Bibles promises come true however that may happen, or something like that. I don’t want to take that away from anyone and don’t want anyone to take that from me.

I wonder how many of the 8 million active pubs are like we are now?

Cofty you are trying to put me in a box and I will not be put into one. As this thread says my conclusion of the matter is it may be true or it may not be, there is probably more to the story than we could ever understand.

As I have said many times if you can’t prove if the origin of everything was by chance or design then you are by definition agnostic.

This means that all JWs, Muslim, Jews, Buddhists, every other belief system including atheists are all agnostic even though they don’t know it.

Im just at the end the conclusion of the matter.

Some have absolute faith and confidence in their beliefs either chance or design they have absolute conviction and their reasoning makes sense to them. But they are still agnostic by true definition because they can’t provide irrefutable proof of which one was the origin- chance or design.

I have not lost hope that there was intelligent design involved and maybe the intelligent design had something to do with the Bible. It maybe true or it may not be, I won’t be put into a box.

I do not refute the claim about DNA common ancestors so why discuss that? My entire point is that could be the case with chance or design. This is my point, why is there any dispute about this?

I am at the end after all that where I feel I do have freedom of thought and cognitive dissonance does not apply to me because my conclusion is that neither chance or design at the very start can be proven. I’m not on either side, so I can’t be accused of ignoring one side in favour of the other.

If you put yourself into one of those two boxes then cognitive dissonance definitely applies. You read books that support your belief system and ignore or overlook what goes against you
