I've known some members of the cong to cover what was lacking in funds for the monthly upkeep and kh payments. Usually some 'well to do' elder. I'm willing to bet that there are many congs that a few of the members cover the remaining 40% that is lacking.

Differences between UK and US Corona Virus TV Updates
by ThomasCovenant ini'm in the uk, and most days over the last 2 weeks i've watched the 5pm uk government update on the corona virus situation which includes questions from the media.
generally speaking i've found the whole update, including the questions and answers, to be respectful, informative and non combative, with, to the best of my recollection, very little mention of politics and blame.
certainly no political point scoring.

Cofty-Stop being so bloody hysterical.
That is the difference, in my opinion. The level of hysteria.
US Headline - Boris Johnson on his last breath is rushed to an IC unit fighting for his life while Trump aims to send all American stock piles of PPE to Britain to help the Prime Minister, leaving Americans to fend for themselves.
UK Headline- Boris Johnson has been admitted to the IC unit 7 days after testing positive for coronavirus. US President Trump offers help if needed.
That is how I see the difference.
Sure there are sensational headlines in the UK but nowhere near like the US.

Curious to know the Zoom attendance figures for for the memorial
by joe134cd ini’m just curious to know the local attendance figures for the memorial.
my father told me they had an attendance of 140. not flattering for a cong of 100 pubs.
i was sort of surprised at this considering the quarantine measures and everyone being forced to stay at home.

Didn't the jw site have the complete recorded memorial talk for many countries..... I just checked and its still up.
So cant they count the number of times anyone clicked on it as a "count" in addition to whatever the elders give?
Looks like they will be able to, like others have said "just make it up". Also I can see many of the jws listening to it dozens of times online. If they count the number of times for each 'watch" or 'click' then it should drive the numbers up.
Not sure if they can do this but seems like they could.

About the covid-19 virus, some positive thoughts
by Finkelstein inwe are now well aware of the shit storm this virus has caused pretty much all over the world but there is going to come a time in the near future when it wont be such a heady news worthy concern.
the reason being is that there are numerous clinical institutions in many countries that are now working on a vaccine, more so than any other deadly contagious virus in human history.. when mankind puts its brain on things usually come of it.
when documented cases start to decline to a certain point governments will start to reduce their imposed restrictions availing people to get back to work, stores reopening , economies cranking up as they once were, normalcy will return.. it will no doubt be a slow restart but the vigor of capitalism will eventually return and this event will be left as a documented event in human history.. i do hope governments will take note of how this virus got started and spread as it did.. a sole person perhaps selling live and dead wild animals in a open public market in wuhan china , astonishing to think what that one person did to effect the entire human population of 8 billion all over the world.

I thought of one.
I'm thinking hospitals will be making sure they have ventilators, face masks and other things that they are running out of. With any luck higher pay for the medical community too. As many are simply quitting because the chump change isn't worth the price they are paying.

Have the governments learned anything from prior failures/ or crisis's? I don't see it.
Have the people? Some perhaps, but when the governments stomp people down making them feel unheard or just pass a sweeping law/laws, then people dig in into the ole' handheld entertainment and create their own fantasy world to escape.
I don't see that stopping.
Fink, I feel your intentions are good and in a Utopian society this would be seem to be lovely. I'm just not sure its reality. And that sucks, because I agree with the premise. And I think its good to try and find something positive about this pandemic.
I think change will/could happen one person at a time that impacts them or their family directly. Like it always has.

Do You Feel Your Rights Are Being Trampled On By Government Regarding Coronavirus?
by minimus ini support local and state and federal government’s power to safeguard the public.
i wonder is it getting to a point where we will be told we can’t go out anymore, can’t use your phone or computer anymore because of the viruses that we can get, etc.
are we prolonging this virus at all ?

We have rights? Since birth we all have been told by our governments and local authorities (often conflicting) what we can and can't do. It becomes ingrained and we are made to be sheep.
Right now we can, maybe over half of the time say what we want on the internet, but try it in real time to someones face and see how far that takes you.
People get arrested everyday for something they posted on the internet that they would never actually do.
As far as this pandemic who are the top profiteers right now? Hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, Tech, just to name a few...All of which we are forced to give our information and or our data to. Which is sold over an over again.( yes hospitals sell data) Don't agree, just let a bill slip by accident and they will give it to every unethical creditor they can find. And there are many loopholes that let third parties collect hospital data whether we agree to it or not despite what they say.
Another example, I have an app that I can use to help pay some things if I do surveys. Do you want to know what kind of information they ask for so I can make 50cents? All of it. If I don't fit into what they WANT TO HEAR they boot me off and I don't get paid. This will piss some of you right off as it did me, but if I don't say that I don't like the certain people running for office , the surveys are immediately stopped. Every survey asks about Covid and politics ( and other things I wont mention)even if its a fricking Pepsi product. So I lie my ass off if I want to be paid.
The question could be "Do you think your rights are further being trampled on, since the Covid pandemic?"
Our rights have been flying out the window for many years. A slow drip. Yet another reason I personally like living completely off the grid. Here's another example. Before the 2008 recession in the community I lived we would have contest to see who could build "Tiny Homes" for the cheapest. Under 2,000 was achieved easily. All day long. Then with many losing their homes then, guess what became mainstream, "Tiny Homes". Remember the first shows about it? They were in the price of 25-40,000 range? Then it shot up to 250,000 for a flipping "Tiny Home" in a few years after that? Then the people that were doing this prior, to help themselves and low income people were price out and local, federal and state jurisdictions hammered down hard on the little people , the very ones who created a solution. So yeah, that took rights away. Libs, dems and repubs all cashing in.
I cant even begin to start on our rights or lack there of being trampled on (taken away). For instance, homesteading act ended in 1976. One rancher had the shear nerve to say to me in 2009 that he "doesnt understand what is wrong with the youth, that he came a laid stake to the 400 acres he has and raised cattle and is now set for life." I quickly reminded him that he "homesteaded his land" BEFORE 1976 when it was legal and that he was an uneducated, lucky, pompous jerk. He backed down. And he got schooled by a 'youngster' that wanted to do the same thing he did but its illegal now.
What rights? We do as we are told.

The virus and how it's affected life
by days of future passed insince i've never lived in time with dire events, this virus and it's effects, has taken me by surprise.
not that i should be surprised by how people responded, but until you experience it first hand, you just don't get the scope of it all.. all the hoarding.
i've always taken things in a more rational way.

Here most everything is closed. ( your not even supposed to hire companys to do landscaping i.e mow your lawn) but some people are doing it anyway and I don't see or have yet to hear of fines being enforced for that)
Construction here is halted.
Most work is near non existent. People having a hard time getting unemployment due to an overload of calls and the state site getting overloaded and crashing.
The places that remain open are Walmart of course, but they are no longer open 24hrs. they close at 8pm. They are only allowing a certain number in at a time. One way entrance and single file lines 6 ft apart.
Other essential stores like grocery stores are open with the same things in place. Limited hours with limited amount of people to be inside at a one time.
Sneeze guards are now in all these stores. Along with CDC Covid-19 guidelines posted and tape marking the distance between people.
As far a stores having restocked, they are doing a great job, but toilet paper is still hard to find and no one has hand sanitzer. ( finally found alcohol and aloe vera gel to make my own, just in time as I was getting low)
Meat was wiped out but now seems plentiful or at least reasonably stocked.
Crime is rising, especially domestic violence. Suicides are rising. ( not enough data to see just how much yet, but enough to hit the news and papers)
I see and hear a lot of teenagers, 20 year olds and unfortunately even some older, acting like its no biggie and running around as if its a vacation or something, not abiding by the social distancing rules. Like yesterday, some guy that lives near me came up to my window (no face mask) trying to talk to me 1 foot away from my face. I told him a couple of times to please use social distancing. He didn't listen so I sprayed Lysol in the direction of his face.lol. He got the hint.
Businesses are now putting up for sale signs, many of which have been here for over 30 plus years. So much for saving small businesses as touted by the Governor and our other elected officials.
Traffic is really light.
Schools giving away free lunches to kids whether you go to their district or not.
This area in particular is known to have the best food banks up until a month ago. They are/were set up like mini grocery stores. I used to go because farmers and local grocery stores would donate tons of fresh organic vegetables of just about anything you can imagine. Which would have cost me an easy hundred dollars at the store. Many people preferred to take the processed foods and other junk crap. So they always let me take as much as I wanted so it didn't go bad. Now they all have limited hours, no getting out of your car, funding fell thru the roof and its army style food rations. I saw the main guy in charge of one, on his knees crying because the government just took over and so many cant be feed now. It was a horrible sight. And devastating to many in the community. Also there is a lack of volunteers now due to most of them being elderly and being ordered to go stay at home. ( its interesting that the older ones are the people willing to risk their lives so the younger generation can survive)
Pizza places are thriving. And one hamburger joint in particular here is doing well. All other fast food joints are near dead.
Also much to my defiance ,the state issued a fishing ban. Fortunately there are some places way off the the beaten path I could go.
Even though I don't like that the state has closed the parks and entrances into the national forest(federal too), (unless you know where to look/go) three weeks ago many people poured into the beaches and parks here to camp when the lock down happened and they brought COVID with them. There were no cases here until that weekend. Then it blew up with the confirmed cases coming straight from Seattle. Thanks Seattle! I probably would have done the same thing if I lived in a metropolitan area and wanted to get out in nature, but it defeats the purpose when its 1000s of people crammed on the beaches or one park with hundreds stacked on top of each other. So the state shut it all down. State responded very quickly.
This might be the only time in history that Wa states knee jerk reaction or snowflakes continuous meltdowns to just about everything worked in its favor in regards Covid. Maybe.

How Do You Get Most Of Your News?
by minimus ini read a lot on online.
i regularly read fox news, the drudge report the new york post and local newspapers and local newscasts.
where do you get most of your news from?.
-
caves
I get news from just about as many news outlets as I can.Online and on tv. Anywhere from far left to far right and anything in between. I do that because my goal is to weigh in all sides and filter out as much sensationalism as possible.
I get frustrated with them all really.
I am on a lot of government site forums run by people holding jobs in different branches of the government. Those places are all over the map in terms of agreeing with each other. I rarely say anything on those sites. But when I do I make dang sure it is backed up by facts, research, facts and more research.

This is narcissistic future faking.
That might be a good topic for you to research as well. Clinical Narcissism.
Since your confined in close quarters and if your worried about anyone seeing what your researching,.. that topic probably wouldn't raise any red flags for them. A clinical narcissist hardly ever knows they are. But I think it will help you see it from a perspective that could assist you in the long run.(Thinking long term, also may help) Many ex jws fall victim to narcissist once out. It could help you build a foundation of logic in regards mind control. Both religious and secular. 'Codependency No More' by Melody Beattie, Is a good read too and could dovetail nicely into your research.
I was sucked back in several times. 2 decades wasted. Learning about clinical narcissist and their tactics really helped. Along with research into the jws.
I would research both because what you describe is a rather normal feeling given your situation.
Narcissist has become a rather over used buzzword in the last decade so I would personally read about it on psychology articles and not a sensationalistic blog or something trying to gain followers. ( Not that those people are wrong, it just sometimes to simplistic yet over the top.)
I do understand where you are coming from. Those feelings are normal. There is nothing wrong with you having them. at. all. In time, it should get much better. Go easy on yourself.

A chance for the unrighteous?
by AlainAlam inthe witnesses teach that the "unrighteous" are brought back to life in order to learn about god during the 1000-year reign.
i don't think that's a bible teaching, for the following reason:.
1) no verse says that.
-

I don't believe the "relatively-righteous" thing either. I don't believe in the Bible anymore. I'm just trying to see where the Witnesses went wrong, doctrinally.
Oh, dear [AA double bind]. If you don't believe in the bible then the last part of that sentence is moot.
