Do You Think the Federalist System in the US Gives States too Much Power?
by RubaDub inas time goes on, i keep rethinking this whole thing about states' rights here in the us.
the more i think about it, i think less states' power may be a way to reduce some of the craziness going on.. as mentioned on another thread, you can't even drive now into some states without them checking your license tag where you are from so you have have to be quarantined.
states such as georgia are pretty much wide open.

I prefer the states retain as much power as possible away from the Federal Gov. If a state gov goes to hell, I can always move to another one, which is precisely what we see occurring now with the exodus of folks from heavy blue states such as California and NY to traditionally more red states such as Texas and Florida.
Sadly, it seems those moving are bringing with them their blue vote as well and with that their preference for the same policies that screwed up their original state to begin with.

Removing Historic Monuments and Statues - Does the Term "Historical" Make it Right or Wrong?
by RubaDub inafter further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.
you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.
would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

JWUndubbed: Democracy - a system of government by the whole population
By your own definition, an unruly mob would not constitute the consent of the majority of the population, and for that matter much less the "whole population". Therefore, mob action is not democracy. To argue otherwise is willful ignorance.
JWUndeubbed: Christopher Columbus isn't a part of American history. He didn't find America, he didn't even step foot on America. He did enslave indigenous people and hang some of them without trial. I don't think we need statues of him in the US
Here you begin with a Red Herring and end with a personal opinion.
The argument was not that Christopher Columbus isn't "part of American history"; but rather that equating Christopher Columbus, Churchill and other great standout historical individuals of great accomplishment to a cruel Nazi Doctor known for nothing but willingly mutilating and testing on countless victims, is just comparing apples to oranges, no matter how hard you try to connect the two.

I'd say two things:
1) I don't want angry, unruly mobs going around toppling what they protest are statues of oppressive historical figures. That's not democracy.
2) Christopher Columbus, Churchill and other great historical individuals of importance are neither Nazi nor equivalent to Dr. Mengele.

The Myth About Jehovah as a "GOD of LOVE".
by smiddy3 ini`ll list a few things and welcome any input, comments you may have .. 1.when adam & eve "sinned" disobeyed him, surely god could have handled it better than to condemn all future generations to disease and death ?.
2.his handling of satan who supposedly seduced eve to disobey god could also have been done a lot differently with a finality to it.. 3.i find little if anything in his dealings with the patriarchs that suggests a loving god protecting them.?.
4.taking on the nation of israel and leading them as his chosen people does not inspire confidence or trust as a god of love.. 5.throughout the hebrew scriptures / old testament his chosen people were constantly at war with other nations which of course would have meant many deaths of the israelite`s during these battles .and the grief that comes with family members in those times.

Jehovah was directly responsible for the execution of many innocent children in the OT, including the Egyptian firstborn during the plague, as well as David and Bathsheba's child.
There is absolutely no justification for murdering innocent children.

Rumor of Religion wanting to contact Inactives
by LongHairGal ini saw a post on reddit from somebody claiming to be an elder that the jw religion wants to contact all inactives.. some of the responses indicate that some were contacted or had close friends or relatives being asked for their contact information.
some of these people have been out of the jw religion for many years and have moved on.
the ones contacted said the jw informed them about cancelled meetings (as though they would care).

I was contacted (I've been inactive 4 years now) yesterday by an elder via text to inform me of the new arrangement for meetings via phone.
I just replied, "Thank you".

Recommended Reading for ExJWs: Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
by Jehalapeno infirst off, this is a book you want to read.
avoid the movie franchise at all costs.
horrible movies.. here's why i recommend this book: its prime focus is using rational reasoning to form your life philosophy - whether that be relationships, career or faith.. it also gives insight into the mind of someone who survived the geopolitical equivalent of the jws - the communist regime of stalin.. the antagonists of the book are referred to as "collectivists".

I'm almost done reading it. The book seems to be a prophetic warning to what we currently see occurring in the political world with the push to antagonize wealth.
Indeed I'd agree that ExJWs should indeed read her books, if even to have an alternate view presented to the leftist ideology many will be exposed to in colleges and other institutions. Her earlier book "Anthem" would be even more appropriate for exJWs, as the story more closely examines the dangers of complete collectivism, where self identity is thoroughly eliminated in favor the of the many. A concept very relatable to JWism.
