Type / Antitype article discredits many JW teachings
by Sanchy ini was going over the type / antitype articles that were released in last year's watchtower articles and i've just realized how ironic it is those very articles can serve to demolish some of the most fundamental jw teachings.. take for instance the "questions from readers" section of the march 15, 2015 magazine.
after mentioning some "far-fetched" interpretations that others have applied to bible events, they go on to say:.
if such interpretations seem far-fetched, you can understand the dilemma.

I was going over the type / anti-type articles that were released in last year's Watchtower articles and I've just realized how ironic it is that those very articles can serve to demolish some of the most fundamental JW teachings.
Take for instance the "Questions From Readers" section of the March 15, 2015 Watchtower. After mentioning some "far-fetched" interpretations that others have applied to bible events, they go on to say:
If such interpretations seem far-fetched, you can understand the dilemma. Humans cannot know which Bible accounts are shadows of things to come and which are not. The clearest course is this: Where the Scriptures teach that an individual, an event, or an object is typical of something else, we accept it as such. Otherwise, we ought to be reluctant to assign an antitypical application to a certain person or account if there is no specific Scriptural basis for doing so.
(bold is mine)
Now, that got me thinking. How many accounts does the WT give a second bigger significance to, even where there is no "specific scriptural basis for doing so". For instance: Daniel 4. WT uses the vision the Babylonian king received to claim it was actually a phophecy that points to when the "end times" would arrive, specifically 1914. However, nowhere in that chapter -or for that matter elsewhere in the bible- is there a basis for giving this vision any secondary application or significance beyond that which is written, which is that the vision was purely a teaching lesson for the king himself.
Given the lack of scriptural support for this "secondary application" (and so many others), it seems to me they have incriminated themselves with these articles. How could I have not seen this as I was originally reading it???? (I was still in back then)

Indeed Beautifullife. In our case wife and I are relatively young, our second boy was just born 3 months ago, our first is a year and half now. Best thing that ever happened to us. I remember though, when my wife got pregnant, we were still "in", I serving as an elder. I could tell everyone was shocked, since they imagined us to be like the video couples and go serve where "the need is greater". However, that was never our desire.

No, you will accomplish nothing but ruin their morning. They are only robots, remember that. Live and let live. -

Could not have been put better. It's a statement to the type, and numbers of idiot American that roams the streets of any typical US city: Shallow, hateful, impressionable, narcissistic, devoid of any substance.
Though I thank you for agreeing with me, I do not completely agree with this statement. The way I see it is that many Americans have forgotten what their founding was all about. They are too busy with worthless entertainment to care. However i do not think they are "hateful and narcissitic".
The fact is our culture has become one of "noise" rather than sound logic and reasonable arguments. Think about it. How many ppl are getting their life views from social media (140 characters or less)? The mainstream media goes where? wherever the "noise" is. The louder the noise, the more attention it gets. Its like the saying goes, "the squeaky wheel gets the oil". Trump took advantage of this modern phenomenon, and he mastered it.

I would have liked to see a contest between Bernie and Ted Cruz. Both authentic believing what they preach deeply to their core. One a socialist and the other a constitutionalist. Put them both up and let the country decide which direction it wants to take.
Instead we get a choice between a clown and a liar. How exciting.

I don't condone at all any of the JW doctrines, and I consider myself an agnostic. Having said that, I believe it is their right to publish this video. This is the difference between the US and most of the other "western" worlds. Our very core foundation was based on "freedom of expression" and "freedom of religion". The gov cannot and should not interfere with religious doctrines. Anyone pushing for limits by the gov should remember that one day those very limits may be placed on the things they believe to be "right".
Few things to consider:
-Everyone here knows JWs are fundamentalist that take the bible very literally and claim that it is the ultimate authority of law. EVERYBODY here knows what the bible says about homosexuality.
-A parent has the right, which no gov or external entity can replace, to teach moral and religious standards to their children. Whether you like it or not. The child will become an adult one day and will make the decision to live by those parental standards or not, as have many ex-JW's once they grew of age.
-Most of you know that bringing outside pressure from the community or gov to speak out against JWs or their doctrines only reinforces them to believe it is Satan's corrupt world persecuting them, as they believe to be "prophesied" in the bible. If you were a true JW at some point in your life, then you should know this. Going after them by pressure only reinforces them.. if you want change, two major factors are needed: Patience and Love. No way around it my friends, history has proved it.

Here in the US, we believe the quality of the ppl (and not it's leaders) as individuals is what determines the state of the country; and that it's leaders are only a representation of the state of the people.
That being the case, one can by it's leaders see where the ppl are. Sadly, more and more citizens are wrapped up with the ignorant bliss of the degraded contemporary culture (aka Kardashians, miley cyrus, etc)

I was reading this week's study article on remaining loyal to Jah. Found an interesting contradiction on shunning. They cite two experiences. In one a JW shuns her mom and her example is posted as a positive one of someone doing the right thing. The second example however of a JW being shunned by his non-JW family is labeled as an injustice. Here's first one:
(w_E_2016 February, parragraph 7)
Forexample, a sister named Anne[1] received
a telephone call from her disfellowshipped
mother. The mother wanted to
visit Anne because she felt pained by
her isolation from the family. Anne was
deeply distressed by the plea and promised
to reply by letter. Before writing,
she reviewed Bible principles. (1 Cor. 5:
11; 2 John 9-11) Anne wrote and kindly
reminded her mother that she had
cut herself off from the family by herwrongdoing and unrepentant attitude.
“The only way you can relieve your pain
is by returning to Jehovah,”Anne wrote. So, the example above demonstrates the supposed loyal faith of a daughter that refused to talk to the woman that gave birth to her, raised her and surely sacrificed so much for her. This, the Watchtower claims, is an example of love and loyalty. Now let's see the second example cited in the same article in a latter paragraph:
(w_E_2016 February, parragraph 17)
In Japan, for example, Taro had
from childhood centered his life on being
loyal and obedient to his parents. He
did not do so merely out of obligation.
He really wanted to make his parents
happy. So when they opposed his association
with Jehovah’s Witnesses, he
found it especially painful to tell them
that he had decided to attend Christian
meetings. Says Taro: “They were so angry
that for years, I was forbidden to visit
them at home. I prayed for courage to
stick to my decision. Now their attitude
has softened, and I can visit them regularly.”In this example, the non-JW family members were cruel, because they "opposed his association" and "forbid him to visit them for years". Yet, isn't this exactly what the JW daughter from the first experience was doing to her mother? only in reverse?
