Indiana "Religious Freedom" (right to discriminate)

sickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".

When I got married it had to be a civil ceremony because I wasn’t a baptized JW and we couldn’t get married in a church or she would be dfd. The first person I picked was a women but my wife rejected her because she refused to be married by a women. We threw together our wedding in a big hurry because the elders were coming down hard on her and we just wanted them to fuck off.

I had to go though about five or six JPs so we could get it done in a big hurry. The idea of backing a JP in a corner to marry me or else is ridiculous.

Being a Justice of the peace isn’t like being a heart surgeon. Just like I have the choice who I pick, they should have the choice who they marry. In a free country you have the freedom to be an asshole if you want, right or wrong.

In Canada I know of a case where a gay couple approached a minister of some denomination to marry them and he said he couldn’t do it in good conscience. Instead of just finding another minister to do the ceremony they just filed a lawsuit against him and won.

I don’t know the exact details of the Indiana law but I really hope it protects people in those situations. I really don’t believe Gays are Lesbians are that discriminated against in the US to the degree in which they believe they are.

recent events and book reads (one suggested by cofty i believe- thank you) have lead me to the only logical and acceptable conclusion:.

there is no god.. simple logical reasoning: matter can neither me created or destroyed.

so the amount of mass in the universe is constant.

I find going from Jehovah Witness to atheist really isn’t that big a jump. Both are incredibly arrogant. Both rely on incredibly complex explanations to prove their books without fully understanding the literature they are promoting. Both never miss an opportunity to preach their belief systems and mock anyone who doesn’t belief in exactly what they do. Both in the super duper complex explanations generally seem to miss the greater point.

I prefer to look at the wonders of the universe with humility and amazement knowing the mathematical probability of it all forming without any intelligence behind it pretty unrealistic.

Who cares, be humble, be kind.

I think as a whole, a lot less people come and go from the borg. At least in Western nations.

My first cong with my wife, I think an entire generation was kicked out. Anyone born from 1970 to 1990. Now it is like an old folks home. Kind of funny.

Anyone from an evangelical church can visit a KH and hear what they have to say. A baptized JW would be dfd for attending an evangelical church even a single Sunday.

From people I have known that been sucked in my a door to door visit and left later is how incredibly friendly they are at the door how incredibly hate filled it becomes when you enter the KH. A knew a guy just walked out in middle of a study when an elder made an off color comment about a fire at our local catholic church.

jw.org cart days numbered?

reading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?

i bet its very minimal.

naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.

WT is trying to scare off memorial partakers

i don't know how many of you still participate in the sunday wt study, but i unfortunately still do.

even though i was asleep half of the time, i did notice something i thought i should share with the rest, in case you haven't noticed.

a lot of the paragraphs were worded strongly against partaking and used clear language of intimidation and discouragement toward anyone thinking of partaking.

I remember growing up in a regular old protestant church my mother warned me about not taking part in communion if you don’t consider yourself a Christian or don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are not Catholics; we don’t just go through the motions.

To me the JW memorial seems more like they are affirming they are not Christians. Sometimes I wonder if I were to throw holy water on the elders if it would burn. They would start talking in weird guttural voices and their heads would start spinning 360 degrees.

Last memorial my wife dragged me to, the speaker started to talk about how the bible CLEARLY says there is an earthly hope and heavenly hope and anyone who doesn’t believe it is mocking god himself.

I wanted to put my hand up and where ??
