  i think the time to be agnostic is when you have evidence on both sides of a claim.

  for example, i'm agnostic about the existence of a historical jesus.

  i think a reasonable case can be made that jesus was a man who was turned into a legend over a period of a couple of decades.

  just watched this remarkable documentary about the exclusive brethren here in the uk.

  their shunning policy is remarkably like watchtowers policy except even more extreme.

  its heartbreaking how families are torn apart by such man made policies based on their interpretation of scriptures.

  I use to live in this small town of maybe 1000 people and about 200 of them were exclusive brethren. They owned all these large businesses with the majority of people working at these places not being brethren. Everything they touched seemed to turn to gold.

  What was really odd is they had two coffee room and two sets of washrooms. These people would not talk to you if it wasn’t necessary. They wouldn’t eat with you, have coffee with you etc etc. They really took the whole being separate from the world serious. They did pay well but didn’t think twice about firing you if you didn’t work hard, were late etc etc. They also won’t eat in restaurants because of the worldly people and contact. Of course they would get take out.

  They have no TV or internet but drive $60,000 trucks and cars and lived in $500,000 homes. The kids go to public school till grade six, and then they have their own school. Education past grade 12 is non-existent, which is really strange because they do run some pretty serious businesses. Not just window washing and janitorial outfits.

  Every few years they would build a new church if there business did well to get out of paying tax on the money. Of course it would just sit there vacant but they would keep it looking really nice. Of course there were no windows. If you walk in Sunday morning to attend a service, a few elders will met you at the door and ask you to leave. Jws were told to leave and not come back in Door to Door service.

  I sure don’t miss that town much. Weird place, weird people. They were even worse than the JWs when it came to shunning. Leaving won’t just cost you your family, but your job.

  tonight my dl was posted by hand by my husband (a worldly guy).

  i had the luxury of being at work distracted whilst he posted it.

  i have been baptised for just over 2 years and studied since 2010. i couldn't take it anymore, not just the zealous dislike/disgust for 'people in the world' (this includes my husband and 99% of my family btw) but the obvious.... the investigations into child sexual abuse.

  I think once you realize that they believe someone operating a gas chamber in a German death camp will be resurrected to life on paradise earth for a second chance. Yet the person who very politely says no thank you I have my own church will be destroyed forever at the big A, really how utterly deluded the WTS is.

  Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?

  from the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.

  beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.

  i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

  When I was growing up as a kid in the 80s my church really had a hate on for KISS. It's funny cause there was much more scary bands out there like vemon and king diamond.

  Anyway years later we had a KISS day in the office. Basically listened to them for 10 years straight. KISS in reality is about as scary as the beach boys. They aren't even that good of musicians thus the lack of respect for their musical peers. That and the fact they were basically the first boy band.

  This is something I always kind of thought JWS were kind of lax on. Every hall I have known seems to have kind of elder based band who plays beatles and eagles covers.

  Alcohol and secular music at jw social events was the first thing I really noticed when meeting my wife. Those things were absolutely unheard of at the church I was raised.

  hi i'm new.. i'm going on 2yrs as a baptized witness although i've just received a reproval on the grounds of living with a wordly man unmarried for 6 months.

  long story short it ended messy and i ran straight back to the witnesses because i do love jehovah and i missed my family.

  my issues were only with the actual organization.. i desperately want to find someone to share my world with but i feel like i'm too tainted to be loved by anyone worthy in the truth and my morals are to high to love another boy from the world.

  Date and marry whoever you want. Just keep your pants on and they can't really do anything. Of course there will be a few shunners but they are assholes anyway.

  Also re read your theology. You are outside of the new convanent. You can't have a relationship with God. Praying is pointless and you never had a relationship with God.

  No jw man is a serious christian so don't worry about it.

  I should call the elders and threaten to kill myself.

  I want to pray to jehovah but I am not sure if I part of the 1914 ers or the 1935 ers or the overlappers or do I pray to the c.o then he prays to the magical seven or do you take my letters to Santa to magical seven yoursel. Not really sure what the understanding of the fds is this week..
