Do you think those at the top realise that it's their fault - suicide as a result of being disfellowshipped?
by jambon1 ini have been stunned to hear of two suicides in our area recently.. this adds to the other 3 that i have known of from the past.. the two recent suicides resulted from 1-the person being gay & hearing a horrific talk at the kingdom hall & 2-the person with problems who was disfelloshipped & then took his life the next week.. it astonished me that jw's in general don't rebel against this sort of thing.
it's an appalling lack of support which leads people to feel distressed, abandoned & unloved.
how the witnesses in the locality can just sail on without giving the cruelty of these measures serious though is beyond me.

TIME FOR A MIND EXPERIMENT
by Terry intry this "mind experiment".. there is a very large sports stadium the size of texas.
inside this stadium there are four enormous crowds of people.
they are all believers in jehovah god and think of their religion as the truth exclusively.. group number one are all the people who read and believed the teachings of charles taze russell.. group number two are all the people who came along after judge rutherford became president of the society.. group number three are the jw's under nathan knorr up to the year 1975.. group number four are all the jehovah's witnesses post 1975 up to today.. .

They'd all scream "apostates!" and trample each other to get out of the stadium.

Deluded Cult Speak By Jehovah's Witnesses
by BlindersOff1 inplease give any examples you've heard of jws verbalizing cognitive dissonance , delusional reasoning .
in other words crazy jw logic .like.
one jw mother recently told her son " even if you did have proof it wasn't the truth, i wouldn't want to read it".

"Even if the New System were a lie I would still serve Jehovah." That from an "anointed" one.

That article is on par with "If I ever did anything that hurt you I'm sorry."

May 15 2013 WT: "REAL elders skip meals and lose sleep!"
by cedars infinally we have the society's expectations of elders in print.. this is from page 9 of the may 15th study edition.... "as indicated by the experiences of the apostle paul, our ministry may result in sleepless nights and times without food.
(2 cor.
6:5) these expressions paint a vivid picture of self-sacrifice and may well remind us of pioneers who give their ministry first place in life while supporting themselves financially.

Despite the many negative reports we read here about abusive elders, there are some who are genuinely sincere. My ex-husband was one such. While he was still an MS he and I were assigned to assist a sister who had 5 kids and a husband in rehab. We got a call at 2:00 in the morning that one of her kids had been in a car accident, and she needed our help.
We launched out of bed and drove 20 miles to the hospital where she handed me her baby and a diaper bag and handed over her 3-year-old as well. We never did get back to bed but babysat those two kids for the whole day. (I should add that we didn't have kids, nor had either of us ever even changed a diaper.) My husband ran out to the store and bought a whole bunch of toys. By the end of the day I was in tears and trembling with stress.
After he was appointed we took a huge financial hit to move to where there was a need for elders, and he actually started the shepherding program in that congo. I remember finding him at his desk in the middle of the night doing research for a judicial case.
Inevitably, he burned out and resigned. The man had a lot of other issues that caused me to leave him, but I still admire his willingness to assist the congregation members at a great cost to himself.

What really bugged me was when the moderator made the comment; “of all those that make sacrifices to auxiliary pioneer are 100% always blessed and feel great afterwards, I guarantee it”!

Has anyone heard anything about Elders being a separate entity and WTS not helping them in court cases legally?
by Newly Enlightened ini just heard a rumor and trying to verify it.
a current jw just told us that the elder's are now a separate entity and that when brought into court hearings and they try to use the 'clergy confidentiality clause' that the wtbt$ backs off and says the elders are their own separate entity.. anyone heard anything like this?.

Living Through the Brief Liberalization of Jehovah's Witnesses, Never Recovering
by TMS inwith the book crisis of conscience detailing the turbulence at bethel during the early to mid 70's, the transformation from autocratic rule to governance by committee or a body of men, many of us can speak to how that felt among the rank and file of the local congregations during those years.
we learned new concepts based in large part to research done for the aid to bible understanding volume, then we were asked or coerced into unlearning those principles, going back to the old ways.
some of us never readjusted, finding ourselves very different from our more hardline compadres.. the inertia for the changes that eventually were initiated in the congregations came from the discovery that the greek words episkopos and presbyteros were used biblically to refer to all qualified men in a congregation, not just one.

A number of Watchtower articles of that era emphasized the individual conscience, making decisions based on principles, taking care of the widow and orphan as part of the "ministry", etc. Many of us eagerly accepted all of this sort of Christian, highminded, individual approach to serving our God. While we could give a number of other initiatives, examples, you get the drift of the organization for a very brief time in its history.
Wow, I remember that so well. We were supposed to be high-minded and give our brothers and sisters room to be individuals. There was a lot of emphasis on the importance of training our consciences. Now you just need to open your mouth and swallow whatever "Mother" spoon feeds you.
Something you left out was the change in understanding of the term "minister." Suddenly, only the appointed brothers were "ministers," and the rest of us were just slobs.
I remember it because when I walked into the KH one Sunday morning in '74 or '75 there was only one other person there, an elder, and he asked me point blank when my ordination date was. I rattled off my baptism date, and he pointed his finger at me and said triumphantly, "Well, obviously someone hasn't read the latest Watchtower!"
That understanding was reversed abruptly a short time later. Then, for a brief time, it seemed that everything we did to present a good image of JWs to the community could be considered our "ministry." Washing your car or mowing your lawn were part of your "ministry." You couldn't count time for that stuff, but it was just as important as going door to door.
I remember the change in understanding about greeting DF'd people. There was a brother who was DF'd. He worked for the city collecting trash. One day I saw him on the street and avoided him. Virtually the next day I was riding the school bus and saw him on his garbage truck. I leaned out the window and hollered a greeting at him. Then, in '81 it changed back to shunning. Say what?
That was a weird period of time.

Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!
by The Searcher inwe had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.
he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".
i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

I still think that's a pretty blatant statement. However, I doubt that the R&F would even notice. They're like that frog in a pan of hot water.
