2014 Year Text "Let Your Kingdom Come"
by scotoma inguy pierece mentioned the years text as let your kingdom come and then dropped the line "it's been 100 years since the kingdom was established in the heavens".. that was it.
wouldn't the 2013 corp meeting be the appropriate time to be discussing that milestone - instead of waiting til 2014 is 3/4 over next october.. obviously they don't want to dwell on the 100 years because it really puts the old light about the generation in a "bad light".
doesn't a centennial deserve a proper celebration?.

Designated elder to shadow talks at the meeting
by wannaexit ini heard that there is an elder in each congregation that follows very closely what is being said from stage to make sure everything is being said correctly.
in all my years as a jw , i don't ever remember this at the local level.
is this something new?

The Ex once got counsel after giving a public talk while visiting a congregation. They didn't like that he used the word "slut" in his talk.

I'd love to show up with an old "red" deluxe bible at a meeting and watch for the looks!

Why elders' wives are such gossipers...
by Calebs Airplane ini have a theory as to why elders' wives gossip so much.
i believe a big part of it has to do with the conversation running dry (between themselves and their elder husbands) after so many years of marriage.
since they don't get to spend too much "quality time" together (because of the elder husband's hamster wheel schedule), when they do have some intimate time alone, the elder's wives will invaribly attempt to engage their husbands in any kind of interchange.

Knowledge is power. Some people with knowledge others don't have love to flaunt their "insider" status. It's a power trip.
My elder father had strict rules about the privacy of his meeting bag, desk, and any phone calls he received. If we answered the phone we weren't allowed to ask who was calling. I got used to that, so when I got married and my husband became an elder I didn't ask or snoop. If I came across confidential info accidentally I kept it to myself out of loyalty to Jehovah. I was waaaaay serious.
All the same, in later years my father loved to come out of his study and drop a few hints that he knew something we didn't know - something BIG.
Can you hear my eyeballs rolling?

My family hosted the CO and wife for their week-long visit several times. I'm sure my mother was freaking out every second of every day.
This was in the '70s in rural Maine, so there was no luxury available to offer them, and by and large they were pretty laid-back folks keenly aware of the fact that they were upsetting your household routine, just as we were conscious of their need for privacy. Of course, I was a teenager back then, so probably some of their idiosyncracies went right over my head.
It wasn't until I'd moved away that I started noticing that some CO couples came with a long list of conditions and a preference for the most luxurious accommodations available in the cong.

What is the most damning watchtower publication?
by zound ini want to purchase a couple of vintage watchtower publications to help in my helping jw's break free.
some of the older ones are expensive or hard to come by - i know you can buy them on cd's but i'd like to own one or two of the "classics of propaganda"- some of the ones that speak for themselves as to the ridiculousness of this religion.. of course any magazine i pick up today speaks to me of the ridiculousness, but you need something much more hardcore for the jw's.. any recommendations?.
"children" has some pretty good quotes in it..

Revelation - It's Grand Climax At Hand! was the publication that stumbled me the most. I could never get my head around the seven trumpet blasts in the Apocalypse being a series of JW conventions in the 1920's
Ditto for me! Of course it was on the third time through that piece of schnitt that the scales fell from my eyes.

I knew it was a lot of hooey, but I didn't leave over that. The ball was already rolling as I'd found out about the pedophilia.
