Thanks, Finkelstein! I've heard talks like that. Now it just sounds so messed up. The speaker really went beyond the things that are written - he was making shit up! Satan will work hard to destroy the earth before he is abyssed? Where's that written?

I remember my ex-bethelite husband telling me about that anti-matter idea. It sounded looney to me 35 years ago, and it still does.

And it won't bother us to see billions of dead bodies, including bodies of children? That goes completely against human nature! It's instinctive to want to help a person who is facing danger, not rejoice at their death!

Well, if you're not a sociopath or psychopath or narcissist, that is.

as we all know, reaching a believing jw is difficult, maybe impossible.. i've tried many years of reasoning before i realised that reason isn't something they really understand, and science is something they can brush off with a wave of their hand.

now i'm going to prepare very succinct examples of their blatant quotemining and somehow get one of them to read it, then ask them why purveyors of the truth need to use lies to support their claims.

maybe i'm too optimistic but i'm hopeful this might have some effect.

It's just too sad to me that I never questioned their quotes, believing the WTS to be absolutely truthful.

this is a terrible story, as i believe from other reports that places like this were common in the usa.

(as well as, the uk, ireland, canada, australia and god knows where else).you can only wonder how no-one else in authority knew about this.

There was a lot of horrors happening back in the 50s and 60s. In North Carolina they were routinely sterilizing anyone who had a low IQ. The state's been paying some big settlement money lately.

This has probably happened at a number of halls, but one Sunday a particularly rambunctious toddler was being hauled out to the library for a spanking and he yelled out, "Jehovah, help me!"

The accounts servant was seated behind a family with 3 little kids. Mom was holding the infant and apparently squeezed him too hard because the kid upchucked into the accounts servant's book bag which held his ledgers (this was before personal computers). Poor guy nearly freaked out.

Ever been to a meeting where the sound guy played the wrong musical track and everyone tried to make the lyrics work?

In rural Maine back in the 70s our very tiny congregation had a tiny kingdom hall. The bathrooms were located right at the back of the very small auditorium and the flushing sound would sometimes drown out the speaker. My father one time had an attack of explosive diarrhea during the meeting, the sound of which reverberated throughout the auditorium. It was hard to keep a straight face. Poor dad!

on friday the 1st of march, i went to my cousins 21st birthday celebration - she has never been a jw.

my other cousins (twins) were introduced by my mother to the faith over 20 years ago (they are now 38) and got baptised when they were about 19. they both weren't that "strong" in the faith and married "worldly partners" and stopped going to meetings.. they knew i had left and i presumed they knew i was disfellowshipped for apostacy.. at the party the one twin came over to me and we chatted about life etc and she says "oh carl is going to start studying" - i looked at her a little odd and asked what it was as he already had a financial degree.

"no silly, he is going to study the truth" my face must have been a picture and in a very high voiced squeaked why would he ever consider that, he is an intellecutal guy....... she continued about how the people had changed and were so much better than when we were younger.

hardly a gripping plot.

You know, I was raised as a Methodist until the age of 12, and I learned the same concept - stealing is wrong - without the aid of the Watchtower Society or the threat of the disapproval of a supernatural being.

forty-five years ago i was out in service with an elder, and we came upon a house where the owners kindly received us.

this was not so unusual as the family was jehovah's witnesses.

Sounds like you need a stiff drink right about now.

I had two JWs come to my door a short time ago but I wouldn't open the door (I'm a single woman living alone and I watch way too much true-crime TV). All the same, I hollered through the door that I was an apostate and that they should run away. My heart was pounding too.
