"How Awful This Place Can Be!" Life at Bethel by Keith Casarona
by Dogpatch inremember the video of all the nice dudes who were on the governing body in the 70s?
(here's a refresher).. well this is what their lives were really like - the same as when i was there.
by the time it got to the end, all was left was chicken backs.

My ex-husband was a Bethelite from 1974-76. He worked on the National sewers on the night shift. His stories are very similar to Keith Casarona's.

My story in short
by DeWandelaar ini am visiting this site for quite some time now and now i think it is time to tell something about me and my experience.
without giving away my name (i am in "fade mode"): i am from the small country they call the netherlands, the land of wooden shoes, tulips, cheese and too many inhabitants per square meter.
i am married with children and a second generation jw.

Will AAWA Become another cult?
by His Excellency inplease sorry for english, i have only been learning for 18 months.
everyone please think about it, and beware of any initiative designed to solve "a community problem".
becasue russel also started his own cult on a similar premise like this , claiming to have all the answers to issues whose solutions seems obscured to the majority in his days, and here we are today, constantly bashing our fingers on the keyboard in a bid to finding comfort from the mess he had put all of us into.

My friend from 40 Years ago
by Lady Lee inwhen i was a young jw and all the other young jws were avoiding me because i was from "that family" i had one young girlfriend who didn't care.
we were both not well liked so we hung out together.
she was my maid of honor when i got married but we lost touch because soon after the wedding we moved to "where the need was great" to help set up another cong in our hall.

Differences Between JWs in the US and Europe
by BU2B inthere are many cultural differences between the general population of the us and europe, what about jws?
i have heard about such things as beards being allowed, movies that a jw cant watch in the us or would be frowned upon watching being ok, same with tv shows, and even the way they dress in public.
seems more laid back over there if this is true.. any truth to this?

The whole Puritan/Calvinist rigidity lingers in New England, especially the farther north you go. Extremely conservative.
There was a congregation in New Hampshire that kept a bunch of white dress shirts just in case the visiting speaker showed up unacceptably dressed.
My ex-husband grew a mustache when we were living in Boston. We went home to Maine to visit his family and his dad said, "So, when did you fall out of the truth, Dave?"

Local needs talk
by hoser inone of the elders was missing his service bag and suspected that one of the publishers stole it.
he was determined to root out who did it so he decided to give a local needs part on the ten commandments focusing on you must not steal.. he enlisted the help of a trusted ministerial servant and got him to stand at the back of the kingdom hall during the part.
he told the ms that he would read off the ten commandments and when he got to the one "you must not steal" he would pause longer than usual and see if anyone acted nervous or suspicious.

"The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life" book
by smiddy inif i remember correctly there were more than 100 million books distributed around the world in the the 1960`s.. and if i remember correctly it was listed amongst the ten most distributed/published books by the guiness book of records .. and if i`m not mistaken "paradise lost to paradise regained" was also on this list.
and even in one year about that time their were no less than four of the societys publications on the 10 most distributed books ever.
at that time.. how much of what was printed in those publications then, is relevant to what is beleived today.
