Question for ex or current :) bethelites
by EndofMysteries inif any of you have worked in the mail department or are familiar with how mail is handled.
two questions.
1. if a letter is sent to the main bethel address and the name is "the governing body of jehovah's witnesses", will that letter reach them or is it opened and read by an underling who decides if it works it's way to them.

i never heard the CBGB stuff, bean bag stuff, or pizza thing. Then again, I may have been half asleep during it.
As for the Lord of the Rings thing, it was weird. I know for a fact it was my room-mate because no one else at that point knew I had it. It was strange because he also gave me a heads up that 'I probably shouldn't have that'
I should probably make a catch-all 'wacky stories from bethel' thread for people to contribute to

New WT Video being filmed at DC
by respectful_observer inthere was a full bethel video production crew at the dc held in amherst, ma this past weekend.
large set lighting was set up inside the main entrance and the video crew spent much of the day roaming the arena doing shots of the crowd, singing, talks, etc.
there were several staged scenesfriends associating outside together, a sister dropping a contribution in the box, and a few others.

how nice of them to throw them away for you. i can guarantee the home overseer had a list of brothers who didn't opt in to have them tossed.
were you there when Brother Couch gave a lecture during morning worship about bethelites 'wrestling around in their underwear and then the next you know he's a homo'
direct quote i shit you not.
edit: or ask me about the time my room-mate ratted me out for owning a dvd copy of lord of the rings. he was a fucking creep. he was 22 or 23 and dating a 16 year old. made me sick.

this also reminds me of an amusing anecdote.
Apparently for years bethelites who subscribed to Sports Illustrated would never receive the Swimsuit Issue. The mail room would just straight up throw them away. One of the years I was there they stopped doing that, saying that it was up to the brother's conscience. They instead put the magazines in manila envelope and then in the brother's room (i guess so others wouldn't be offended)

i wonder if they'd vet the mail if you sent it in the inter-bethel email and addressed it to their room. probably.

"8 Ways To Give Us Your Cash" - the desperation in the latest Watchtower is tangible!
by cedars ini know gayle has already started a thread on the latest november 15th watchtower article that mentions the article on donations, but i thought a thread with a more specific title might be in order just to drive the point home for any lurkers.
i hope gayle doesn't mind!.
i've been banging the drum for a while now about what i view as the obvious signs that the watchtower is in a state of decline.. i have written the following blog articles on the subject.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/branch-closures-and-fire-sales-a-growing-trend-for-the-society.

this isn't really anything new though. they publish an article like that at least once a year. it was on the old Wt and in the new study editions. that brochure on 'charitable planning' is several years old at this point.

by respectful_observer ini'm not sure if this has already been posted and i just haven't seen it, but here's an email i received recently that gave me a chuckle.... ...................... run, idiot, run.
br.

funny he uses a football illustration when the WT publications and talks at KM schools have specifically called out football as being violent and evil.

heh so it's ok for Judah to get his masters but if I did or sent my kid to college I'd probably have my privileges removed (if i had any)
