Slidin, that's what I said, the assembly hall is paid for by the congregations using it. Not sure how it's a correction.

What are the WT Society's expenditures?
by Apognophos ini'm hoping someone who has at least a little inside knowledge can help educate me here.
what sort of things does the wbts pay for, on a worldwide basis?.
- i understand that khs are owned and funded locally, at least where the locals can afford them, but what about in poor areas?.

I'll try to respond to everything at least as it pertains to the U.S.A.
In the US, Kingdom Halls are paid for by the congregation. The Society does offer low interest loans to congregations trying to build a hall. Assembly Halls are actually paid for by the congregations that will be using the hall. I'm sure in some rare instances the society might foot some of the bill, but that's a rare thing. The society has a separate fund for donations to put towards building kingdom halls in poor countries. I don't know if that money is given out unconditionally or if it's a loan.
So really the society's expenses come from running the branches and the expenses for those in the religious order of JW's (bethelites, CO, DO, missionary, special pioneer, BIFs). It can get expensive. It's one of the reasons the society is moving out of brooklyn and why cut the number of bethelites in the US by a third. It costs twice as much to house, feed, etc. a bethelite in NYC than at the other locations. I don't know what the stipend is for bethelites any more or for others like CO's, but it adds up. Printing costs definitely are always increasing for various reasons. Making the Awake monthly, cutting the WT to 16 pages, and putting stuff online is absolutely a cost-saving measure. You also have to factor in the millions they have paid out in lawsuits over the past decade or so.

Yeah that's a good point. I wonder how many doorstep bible studies that includes. Also, I would LOVE to find out how long a person studies. I know some pioneers who might get to that 3rd RV to count a study for the month and that's it. They used to keep track of the individual people who studied, now they just want the numbers.

Of Bethel a Place of Homosexualiy,Drunkness,Psychotic Episodes,Brawls,Sucide,Immorality,Deceit, Control and Cynism
by Scott77 in"...the intimacy with farm animals is true.
[beastiality], theft, homosexuality, drunkeness, psychotic episodes, brawls, suicide, immorality, deceit and control is all true.
the sad thing is seeing young women wanting to marry a bethelite thinking that she is getting the 'cream of the crop' and they are probably worse than a so-called worldly person...the cynicism was palpable...the most emotionally unhealthy environments to be a part of...socially disfunctional people..."wheres caleb?http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/218165/3/your-most-disturbing-watchtower-bethel-branch-experience-no-full-names-please.

I never saw anything that crazy except for drunkeness. A buddy of mine puked (because he was drunk) in the elevator at the Brooklyn home and was sent home 2 days later.

Will the 'Make Good Use of Our Official Website' discussion backfire?
by jw07 ingood day everyone,.
i'm a born in jehovah's hostage, and am still a hostage until i can wake my family up (wishful thinking i know).

Our hall discussed this insert last night. It's hilarious. Our hall is full of old people an luddites who "just aren't good with computers." The demonstration with the family was done by a brother who is self-admittedly computer illiterate. At least the brother doing the part knew what he was talking about. Even after the meeting, a lot of the people made comments like "that's all greek to me," and stuff like that.
The part was a waste. For people who know how to use the internet, the part was not needed. For people who would need to learn, they're not going to anyway. Thankfully the publishers don't bother me with IT questions because I'm barely around.

I have absolutely no doubt that the vast majority of reported bible studies are family studies. In my congregation the ratio is 1 study for every 3 publishers. If you remove all the family studies from that number, it's probably 1 study for every 6 or 7 publishers.

What do you mean?! I ALWAYS go to the beach after service and wear long pants and button up shirts while I play a game in the sand with my family! Sometimes I wear button up long sleeve shirts too!
by Crisis of Conscience inthe wts likes to imply how jws should dress in and outside of the hall.
you always want to set an example.. so i couldn't help but share this beauty in the january 15th, 2013, study edition of the watchtower.
i always go to the beach like this!

I know I say a lot of bad things about Bethel, but one of the things they teach the new boys is to tip properly. They said that when figuring if you can afford to eat out, you should always factor in the tip. So if a meal is ten bucks, in your head it should really cost 12.
I am always afraid to eat out with JW's because they are horrible tippers. On several occassions I've had to give the waiter a few extra bucks to cover the poor tipping. I apologize to the waiter for my 'friends' behavior. Even after ou explain WHY tipping is important, the friends usually give an excuse that boils down to 'i don't want to give them extra money.' Fuck em

Any "friends" of Bethelites get a 2013 Yearbook yet?
by Gayle ini know the yearbook isn't on jw.org yet?
but in the past, some have gotten a yearbook gift sent to them by now?
things seem 'quiet' about the 2012 worldwide service report too..

i don't know if they still do that. When I was at Bethel the yearbooks were shipped to congregations just a week or two after those early ones were sent out anyway, so it didn't make much sense.
I also didn't know this until I was there, but apparently if a bethelite sent you a yearbook that was code for 'send me a money gift.'

Who or what is to blame for the Newtown CT shooting?
by BreathoftheIndianNose inif events like the recent school shooting in newtown are to be avoided from here on out, we must understand who or what is to blame.
there is a reason that it happend, maybe it was simple or maybe it was very complex, but this didn't just simply happen.
a series of events transpired that inspired or even just allowed adam lanza to commit this terrible atrocity.
