Haha, I am in the same situation! I have for the longest time wanted to dress up and go to a party, regardless if it was Halloween or not, Halloween just gives you a great reason to. Some friends and I plan on doing something this halloween. I am torn on either being a Power Ranger or an NFL player....both costumes will be expensive tho :(

Does the Watchtower really parallel 1st Century Christianity?
by Emery ini wanted to get a list of arguments that illustrate how the watchtower society is or isn't following 1st century christianity today.
thanks again everyone!.

@mP, I think you're getting off track here. Lets try to apply what we and scholars do know about 1st century Christianity instead of attacking every little comment someone made here. I think this would be beneficial for all the JW lurkers that visit this site.

@Band on the Run
Great post. I know exactly what you're talking about. Historians have plenty of evidence demonstrating the diverse Christianities which existed in the first century (of course the proto-orthodox Christians won out). There wasn't one true understanding of Christianity, the form of Christianity that I suppose we are trying to define here is Pauline Christianity. Since the WT considers Paul's letters to be inspired and from God they take everything he says as "1st century" along with the different opinions of John, Jude, James, and Peter. What JW's dont realize is that the WT has merged Pauline Christianity with Jamesian Christianity. Having a strict following of the "inspired principles" of the mosaic law and yet saying we are free from it, you can especially see this when you try to debate such topics like the Sabbath or tattoos. The Watchtower is trying to walk a tight rope between 2 contrasting belief systems and they look like ignorant fools when they state as fact what 1st century truth was.

1st Century Christians went by the name of "Christians", not Jehovah's Witnesses, Acts 11:26.
Acts 4:12 shows God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, the name of Jesus Christ.
Jesus stated that Christians were his witnesses. Acts 1:8, "And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
In the referenced verse Christians were admonished to not worry about the times or epochs/seasons of the father. This is something JW's have completely and utterly failed to do for the last 150 years.
The holy scriptures of that time period was the OT. The traditional christian bible wasn't cannonized until way after the first century (361 AD), close to 300 years after the fall of Jerusalem by apostate Church fathers (according to the WTS).
Christians met in private homes for worship.
To be an elder or ministerial servant (deacon) at that time was a service, not a position of authority for leadership. Read Matthew 23:10 and 1 Cor 3:4-6.
Paul never addressed or differentiated classes of christians, it is non-existant in the NT.
Recovery, Jews can make the very same claim as to being the most persecuted. The entire history of the nation of Israel is defined by persecution which has lasted thousands of years.

Yeah sitting there and reading the opinions of a bunch of social outcasts for an hour and a half is totally better than watching Thursday NFL football.

I Want Proof Jesus Even Existed
by Farkel indon't bother me with the josephus addendum.
i've already seen that debunked.. i am quite aware of the fact that the only evidence of jesus comes from his own followers who didn't even bother to write down his life for decades after jesus "died.
" don't know about you, but if i saw all that shit, i would have gone home and written three books about it that same day!.

The non-belief in a Trinity and Hellfire. The one thing Ive always liked about Russell was that he believed God wouldn't destroy people due to their ignorance.
