It may help them with 1975, but it doesnt help them with their appointment in 1919. They claim Jesus chose them during their worst times of false predictions and prophecy. The year 1919 is so vitaly important to address. Yes, they had wrong expectations on some dates, BUT they declared it as INDISPUTABLE FACT for the years of 1918 and 1925. They cannot out run or rationalize these 2 years in the least bit! They were already the established channel to Jah and invisibly chosen by the divine entities that be.

Do JWs Really Still care about the "Truth"?
by XBEHERE ini often read posts on here citing some km school or wt article and the comment that "now they are tightening their grip" or "they will now go after faders" etc, etc.
my perception is that the vast majority of jws, including the elders, are suffering from apathy and fatigue.
most simply don't care anymore.

I spent some time this past weekend at my best friends house (active jw). His wife and I got onto the topic of the new faithful and discreet slave light. Sure enough, his wife had no clue of the old understanding...or the new light. So I went on to the explain the old light and planned on showing her the difference. When I mentioned that the faithful and discreet slave class was previously known as the 144k, she immediately said, "Well that doesn't make any sense, I have never heard of anointed ones communicating information back to Brooklyn." I then said, "Yup that's been a huge disconnect for me too", My best friend then chimmed with the usual response, "Light gets brighter, we are progressively getting there."
I ignored that and continued explaining the new light. I explained the new understanding of the Faithful and discreet slave, being only the 8 men in Brooklyn. Only when they are gathered do they form the Slave Class. They both looked at me puzzled, and his wife said "Umm I don't believe that's correct, we had our family study the other day and thats not what Hubby said." My best friend then answered, "Yeah I don't think thats right either. The slave class also exists in the branches, there are tons of anointed people there." I then challenged them to look it up on JW.org. Sure enough, he read it out loud and said... "Yup, Emery is right." Of course they were confused and then I used the Voltron analogy which helped them understand it better haha. She turned me to and said, " I still don't really get the whole Faithful Slave thing."
What was great about all this was they were somewhat talking down to me for missing meetings, yet this spiritual weakling managed to know more about the new light and core understandings of the faith better than they did, and they're the active ones! Haha
I find it really sad that the most important understandings that can determine your entire life is not really examined or cared about.

JW's disdain for the Papacy, and their new light
by zed is dead ini love how the witnesses have contempt for all other religions, especially the catholic church.
their big gripe is about the pope being the spoksman of god.
they pride themselves in not having a clergy.

Greetings
by Monsieur ini visit this site often for various reasons, above all to see the opinions of those in regards to their present state in life in relation to past or present tendencies in thinking (religious, morals, etc).. i had not found anything constructive or worthy of adding to this conversation but for one reason or another here i am doing so now.
i am presently an active jw member.
i believe that our faith provides a haven or parameters from which members can significantly obtain structure and order in many different ways.

It really sounds like you would enjoy Bart Ehrmans book ' God's Problem: How the Bible Fails to Answer Our Most Important Question-- Why We Suffer '. Your thoughts and form of reasoning really harmonizes well with the issues brought up in his book. You should definitely check it out! I agree with you that religion and faith in God is a means to structure and community that works great for many believers. There is nothing wrong with being a JW, however the amount of control and authority its leaders possess over the lives of the rank and file is the issue for the majority here. Of course that's a whole other subject.

There is an excellent debate you can find on YouTube and it is in regards to the problem of suffering or Theodicy. Bart Ehrman and Dinesh D'souza debate many points as to why we suffer and reflect on the traditions that mankind has developed over the centuries. It was one of the most powerful and thought provoking debates for me as I was in your very shoes. Here it is for anyone who is interested.

Elders finally took me to the back room...
by OneDayillBeFree inafter several months of leaving the meetings as soon as they ended or only staying for "the first meeting" then leaving the "second part", the elders finally cornered me at last night's meeting.. they said they were concerned about me and that being that i am a young brother in a recently divided congregation they saw so much potential in me to help out the congregation and become a ms.. i told them i was thankful for their thinking of me to help the congregation but that at the moment i could not due to my job.
then the began asking personal questions that got on my nerves.. they asked where i worked and how much i made.
they asked if i was going to college and what i was studying and for how long.

Had something like this happen a few months ago, right before I got married. You did alot better than I would, I just told them what they wanted to hear, acknowledging my weak spiritual state and saying I will do better...syke! hah.

Are you now ashamed of how gullible you were as a JW?
by biometrics innow that you realise how idiotic some of the jw beliefs are/were, do you feel ashamed of how gullible you were to believe them?.
if anything my past as an adult jw makes me understand how easily manipulated people are by the people and environment around them.
and that even intelligent people can be influenced beyond what is rational..

I remember when i first felt embarassment about it all, I was studying "The Finished Mystery" the food at the proper time which game all authority to the GB. How silly is it that people get disfellowshipped by the authority of false prophecies and pyramid beliefs.
