Need to vent: Wife just went in full cult mode, huge fight. she is so brainwashed
by goingthruthemotions inout of the blue my wife started to ask me about my feeling about the borg.
i told her i didn't want to talk about it...she persisted.
she already knows how i feel, i told her that my biggest beef is that they use mind control, and yep she went in to how i was an apostate and how she doesn't want to be married to an apostate.

I am so sorry about these developments. I can relate to the stress you are feeling. It is surreal after you learn TTATT, its wonderful being able to see, yet tragic when those around us, those we love refuse to see. We become as my wife once called me, an embarassment. We become the bad man. I am basically in your exact same shoes. My wife asked me that if I stopped activities in the "twoof" how we would make it as a couple? I said through love. She said "LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH!" I guess that one statement pretty much sums up being married to a heavily mind controlled, willing cult activist. -

"Although we are not under the Mosaic Law, its requirements give us insight into what is acceptable or unacceptable in God’s sight."
So what about the command to NOT shave your beard? What insight does this give on what is acceptable in Gods sight?
What about the commands on buying, owning and selling human beings as merchandise AKA slavery? Does this tell us that Slavery is ok? Has there ever been a condemnation of it? Didnt Paul command slaves to be obedient to their masters in all things?
What about not eating seafood or other foods? What does this tell us?
I hate the way WT cherry picks and twists certain passages from the Mosaic Law to fit their commands, while convieniently ignoring the others. They say JWs cant have tattoos because of the principle found in the Mosaic Law, yet ignore the very next verse which commands not to shave or cut your beard. They actually now command the opposite!
Such hypocrites!

Awesome movie: "THE GIVER". This is a MUST WATCH for witnesses and those breaking free from the WT!!!
by stuckinarut2 inyou have to watch the movie "the giver"!
it is simply an awesome movie for every thinking witness, or those trying to break free from the org's hold on us.. i wont give away too much, but the concept of the film is mind blowing!
utopia vs reality etc... conformity vs individuality and humanity... etc.

I watched the movie with my wife a couple weeks ago, and I read the book in school. I could immediately pick up on the parralells. Ironically two of my indoctrinated wifes favorite movies are "The Island" and "The Village" two movies that have strong parralells to JWism. The similarities go right over a indoctrinated persons head. If they compare it to anything it will likely be "False religion" -

Is Watchtower's stance against education only for North American witnesses
by wannaexit ini was reading on a european ex jw forum where some feel that watchtower's railing against higher education is primarily for north america issue.
this is due that many in usa and canada leave home to leave on campus.
it was mentioned that many young european jw attend universities and its not frowned on.. i found this odd because i heard what morris and losch said about education in italy.

A lot of things frowned upon in the US is not in Europe. JWs there can sport beards and watch movies that no "good JW" would watch in the US because they are "rated R". I have heard that in general, JWs in Europe are more reasonable and laid back than their North American Counterparts. -

List your favorite, overused scripture by JW's!
by thedepressedsoul inthe title says it all.
list a scripture that is way over used.. it could be a scripture that the point is completely missed by how they use it.
it could also be one that they use so much it's as if the rest of the bible didn't exits.. my two favorite are proverbs 4:18 and ezekiel chapter 1 +a few verses.

I agree with the above. I would like to add Ecclesiastes 9:5 which they take literally and cherry pick to prove that the dead are unconscious, when the very next verse, Ecclesiastes 9:6 if taken literally disproves the earthly resurrection as well! -

BluesBrother, Im in Buffalo, NY and we have a Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and Sign Language congregations as well as Arabic, Burmese and Swahili groups. It seems most able-bodied zealous JWs have moved over to this field and most growth seems to be there as well. English congregations are dead and shrinking. -

I don't understand how they continue to grow. Even though the growth barely keeps up with the population growth, I want to see the numbers begin a slow decline. I think most of the growth is likely in the foreign language congregations. In English, it seems more go than stay. -

As one poster said, the situation is PATHETIC. It can make you feel powerless, especially when the spouse is hardcore and there are kids involved. I wish I had some good advice but its different for everyone. I am fully awake and have been for over 2 years with a 5 year old daughter and a 8 month old daughter. My wife is fully commited and actively shuns her sister and "best friend'. I cant just run away, and if I stop all JW stuff I get treated like crap and if I go along with it I am tortured by the meetings and occasional FS and I feel like a hypocrite and feel like I should do more to remove my kids from the situation. However If I do that the happiness and warmth of the home will be gone and the kids will be raised in a cold tension filled home. There is no good soloution. Such a complex situation. Such a tragic situation.
Good luck to you and yes this is the only place we can come where others can really understand and empathize with our situation. Its nice to be here for one another.

Is shunning effective?
by rebel8 indoes shunning accomplish its objectives:.
make the person repent?.
deter others from committing similar offenses in the future?.
-
BU2B
Also I don't believe shunning actually stops certain behaviours. It merely forces people to become more two faced and sneaky about it. I guess you could spin it and say "more discreet"
