Paradise is going to suck!

once you really start thinking about it, the whole paradise idea is kind of depressing.

i remember growing up as kids my sister was the first to tell my parents (admittedly very courageously) that she wasn't sure she wanted to live in paradise, it sounded boring living forever.

i thought she was dumb for thinking that, i mean playing with lions!!!!

Paradise would be a restrictive tyranny by default. Even under a "human" tyranny you at least can have your own thoughts between your ears. In the JW new world, you will be punished for even your private thoughts!

I think what enabled me to wake up when I did was the fact that I had decided that I would NOT want to live in this world even if it were true. I didnt like the Idea of bethel and the "paradise" just seemed like a worldwide bethel. The elimination of the fear of dying at armageddon or "missing out" on paradise enabled me to do real research and open minded, rational thinking without emotions or fear getting in the way. I just didnt want their carrot they were dangling anymore! I was like the donkey with the carrot dangling in front of him, only I hate carrots!

This is repugnant. They know that a child who is exposed to this, and wants to do the "right thing" AKA pleasing their parents and other authority figures will now be bugging their parents to get baptized because its kewl. Kids like to imitate what they see and when they are told that it will please the "imaginary" Jehovah they will do what they are told. Kids already have active imaginations so believing in the big "sky-daddy" isnt too hard. Plus almost all the adults around them believe in it, and those who do not are nothing more than someone to give a tract to.

I truly believe I have either great strength or incredible weakness that I do not blow my fuse. My oldest daughter is 5 now and is exposed to this garbage, and it IS WORKING. My wife shows her these videos on the IPad as do my parents. I cant stand it and it is ruining my life. I could be having a good day, mowing the lawn, and having a cold beer or going out to eat with my family and THEN my daughter may say something she saw on the videos. Just the other day she threw out a little "magic toy pony" because it was magic and Jehovah hates it. She said she feels proud and good to do it. My wife was sitting there the whole time so what could I say? 5 year olds think in black and white, something is either good or bad.. No middle ground. I try to draw her out and get her to think, but that is really not to effective at her age, neither am I a child psychologist/miracle worker. It ripped my heart out and I proceeded to drink tequila until my pain was numbed and I didnt care about much and the thoughts slowed down in my head.

To add another layer to the hypocrisy, we had theCO visit today. His entire public talk was about how the whole word changed when Satan was cast down in 1914. He went on and on to prove how bad the 20th and 21st centuries were, how many wars ,famines, Earthquakes like never before in human history!

The public talk literally contradicted the WT 100%. The sad part is I doubt many picked up on it. Cognitive dissonance must have been in overdrive today!

Leaked application letter?

i saw a letter leaked on this site that was an application for pioneering/ some school/ something.. it had a part that said "you must not have watched pornography in the last two years" or something similar.. i cant find it now, can someone help me out?

Evidence based folks: what is your stance on GMO's and why?

so, the anti-gmo movement scored another victory today.

chipotle has opted to only use non-gmo food items.. hooray for them.

i'm pretty neutral on the subject, mostly because, other than questionable treatment of farmers, i have seen no evidence to avoid gmo's for health reasons.. basically, my neutrality boils down to the stance that i'll buy non-gmo, so long as the price is reasonable.

"I just don't like being lied to"

so i dropped this comment to someone from "my" congregation...... "i just don't like being lied to".... this was in response to their attempt to become my 'bff' (i'm sarcastically using the expression 'best friends forever' here).

i ran into them in the street.

they started chatting all about the cong gossip, teachings, upcoming witness events etc.... i was just quiet and not really contributing to the conversation.. when she asked "so what's new with you?

Memorial - Most depressing holiday ever?

we - as in we jws - say that the memorial is our only holiday.back in my young days when i was still living at home, my mom would buy us (or as we got older and made our own money, make us buy) new suits for the memorial.

my mom would put on her best dress which she probably only bought for the memorial.

she would say, it is our only holiday so we should dress special for it.

The ironic part of all this is that they try to model themselves after the ancient israelites. The ancient israelites had many festivals through the year such as the Festival of Booths etc. These are compared to modern day assemblies and conventions, yet conventions today could hardly be compared to festivals with their sack lunches and boring droning symposiums. They were times of rejoicing, eating, relaxation, lively music and worship. Why do not JWs today follow that example and actually schedule something fun and engaging?? Maybe it would help them retain some youth, if they had ANYTHING to look forward to. Instead its you CANTs! You cant celebrate birthdays, holidays, play school sports, have hobbies, have non JW friends, have a boy/girlfriend, go to parties, vote in class elections, eat that cupcake, have gifts on a certain day, have a life saving medical treatment etc. What is that replaced with? Nothing. Do the math

Its nothing special, the same as every other meeting, the outline consiting mainly of warning why you should NOT partake EVERY YEAR! Why then do people view it as special? Because it is hyped up in the KM as memorial SEASON, there is a lower aux pioneer hour requirement, there is a campaign, etc. It is special because they SAY it is!

Even more perplexing is why the "special talk" is considered any different than any other public talk! The only difference I can see is that the same outline is being used in every KH around the world that week! Thats it!

I also agree with sparrowdown. I reflect on that thought often and shake my head. They believe people like Pol Pot, Jack the Ripper, Ghenghis Kahn, and other monsters from history will be resurrected, yet kids and others will be thrown into the second death because they did not listen to the annoying people peddling magazines on Christmas morning. They believe serial killers deserve another shot, yet the little old lady down the street who is very sweet but "has her own religion" deserves to die a violent death and never be brought back.

There are many baffling beliefs and practices of JWs that are shared with other groups, so I will try to stick to something that is unique to them.

The fact that JWs have believed for 100 years that they may NEVER DIE is the craziest, most delusional belief! Everything that has ever lived, plant, animal, human, fungus, microbe, EVERYTHING that has ever lived HAS DIED, yet they insist that if you obey a group of men in NYC you will be the exception. It baffles me that I once thought this. They think they will cheat death when nothing ever has. They then build and structure their whole lives from what career to choose, higher education, marriage and children etc around this delusion.
