I used therapy/counselling to help me gain the courage to leave the JWs and my ex-husband, and have continued checking in with a counsellor on an almost monthly basis since. I could not recommend it more. We are fortunate here in Australia that counselling services are provided free through a lot of places of employment (public sector) and also through my university, I haven't had to pay yet.

Leaving the Watchtower and your mental health
by Christ Alone ini've seen that many in the organization have an unhealthy view of medical professionals, especially as it relates to psychiatry/psychology.
i thought this was an appropriate topic considering what happened with oompa.
how do you feel about your mental health now that you left?

Even on the cusp of the knee gets you a marking talk... *sat in front row of congregation photo with said skirt that of course rose a couple of cm when I crossed my legs so that some knee was exposed*.
Also, thrown into that talk was comment about showing cleavage, of which at the time I had none and, while wasn't sensitive about my flat chest, made my kind of want to burst into hysterical tears about them damaging my self esteem as a woman, to see what they would do. LOL.

Help with Mathematical Concepts, Not Arithmetic

my public education was very sad.

Girls can't do math or science is the biggest load of hogwash I ever heard.
I'm a girl, doing a Med Science degree, High Distinction in Physics and on the way to one in Statistics. Currently on a D average, aiming for a HD average next semester in Math-Algebra, Chem, Physics and Bio.
I was lucky to have a great high school math teacher who taught us to appreciate the beauty in it.

what is the dumbest thing you've been reproved/chided/df'd for?
by rather be in hades ini'm a big science nerd and i remember when we were going over the creator book, that the big bang doesn't necessarily prove there is no god.. i said this comment during book study and the conductor's jaw dropped.
everyone was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't help that he ct me off as i was explaining the red shift and mom wasn't too happy about all that.
i had to do a lot of bible research and write some nonsense about how the big bang was not reality or some sort...ugh.. .

I did one of those joke quizzes on Facebook circa 2007, "Which Creature Are You", and my result was vampire... so I got a marking talk all of my own! and a personal visit from the elders with prayer because vampires are from Satan and magic, and good JWs don't believe in magic or participate in things from Satan or think they are creatures from Satan. They tried to hold my hand and pray with me even my cats wouldn't go near them, they sat and hissed and glared the entire time lol. I recorded the marking talk and played it for my friends at work, who knew I was leaving, and we had many many lols. It was the most ridiculous thing.

Australia - Priests could be ordered to report confessions of sex abuse to police
by PrincessPeachz inhttp://www.couriermail.com.au/news/national/priests-could-be-ordered-to-report-confessions-of-sex-abuse-to-police/story-fndo1wyv-1226428524648.
this was on abc news this morning, one question asked: "should officials in religious and other organisations be held criminally responsible for the actions of offenders of child abuse in their employ or for whom they have responsibility?"..
it seems to be directed primarily at catholics, but could easily have ramifications for other religions as well.

It seems to be directed primarily at Catholics, but could easily have ramifications for other religions as well. The report is due to be presented in State Parliament in April next year.
Apologies if there's another thread on this already, I don't watch the news very often :)

My grandmother died recently, she was anaemic and needed blood, refused and her body shut down.
It's much worse when young people with their lives ahead of them die for refusing blood.
