Hello! I would have to agree with cofty - make sure you think through putting down so much information about yourself. Anyone who's at all familiar with your story would be able to identify you off of what you've posted here, and merely visiting this site is enough to get you in huuuuge trouble, if not disfellowshipped.
That being said, it is lovely to begin to feel that relief, isn't it? This is an awesome site to visit when you need a break, a great resource for getting out, and an understanding place to cope once/if you leave!

My mom is firmly a seven - my dad isn't a dub and never will be, and that completely ruins your social life. Also, despite her zeal and true belief, years back she pissed off some of the wrong people and that follows her to this day. (She switched congs to get away from them and, several times, made a new friend only to have that friend drop her when one of the women she'd pissed off starting hanging out with the new friend.)
I started off a seven but was up to a six at one point, even though I avoided service as much as I could, because I'd give such great answers at the meetings and managed to befriend some of the pioneer sisters and the daughter of the congregation's richest couple. Fell down to an eight as soon as I started university, never bothered trying to recover status because I was already mostly out by that point.

It seems to come and go in waves for me. It's definitely getting easier over time, but I wish it didn't take so long sometimes! My ex was with me throughout my learning TTATT and getting disfellowshipped and got to see all that firsthand, so I'm having some trouble explaining to the new guy why I still have so many issues related to it. I always enjoy reading the comments from people who have been out for many years now and seem to have had the "truth" leave them - it gives me something to look forward to!

With all the WT's eschatology and prophetic interpretation, why is there no mention of Islam?
by marmot inyou'd think that the third major abrahamic religion would be of interest to the witnesses and their fanciful interpretation of just about anything written in the bible, especially with the white-hot relevance islam has in current affairs and the middle east.
not only that, islam had a huge influence on european history, with conquering armies and direct control over jehovah's supposed holy city of jerusalem.. american christian fundamentalists trip over themselves trying to connect all the dots in scripture so why hasn't the watchtower society?

It's definitely mentioned in the Search book, and I do remember some KM inserts about how to preach to a muslim (possibly one of the brochures is aimed at them? Foggy memory of hearing that) but for the most part I think Simon's right, especially about the conversions. It's much easier to bridge the gap between Catholicism and JW doctrine than it is to move from Islam to Christinity.

I was mentally out ages before I was emotionally out, and to be honest, I'm not sure I'm all the way out yet emotionally - I have a hard time knowing if some things are just deeply-ingrained habits, or remaining emotional connections. I've been fully mentally out for about two and a half years (though I knew I was done with the religion well before that) and became disassociated at the end of January this year, for the record.
I'm fine with a lot of the more overt things; I had a lovely Christmas tree last year, celebrated my birthday for the third year in a row in August, and don't get scared when I read well-written information about evolution anymore. But with some little things... I had a breakdown a few weekends ago and spent about an hour sobbing into my boyfriend's chest about how I miss three teenagers in specific who were like little siblings to me, and he is baffled by the fact that I'm completely incapable of blaming them in the slightest for shunning me. Or, on Friday a friend's band was playing at a bar that was right beside a Hall and I got so weird about how "worldly" the atmosphere there felt that I ended up having to leave. Like I said, I'm not sure if those reactions are from years of thinking a specific way and finding it hard to rework my thought processes, or if I still do have some emotional ties there.

in 2006, riddell signed a declaration that she did not want to be given blood during any medical procedure because of her jehovah's witness beliefs, even if healthcare providers believed that it was necessary to preserve her life.. she later stopped practising the religion but her brother told hill she maintained the declaration because she had researched the use of blood transfusions and made an informed decision not to receive any blood.. riddell opted for the surgery after being diagnosed with symptomatic gallstones, hill said.. parry met with riddell before the surgery but did not discuss receiving blood with her as he told hill the chances of someone bleeding during the surgery were less than one per cent.. that meant the surgery began at wairau hospital at 9am without parry knowing about the declaration, although his anaesthetist did.. it was originally supposed to be a keyhole only surgery, but parry made the decision to go to an open surgery as he could not access the gall bladder through the keyhole technique.. during the surgery there was a small amount of bleeding, which parry was unconcerned about.. the surgery finished at 11.15am and parry went away to perform another surgery.
during that time, riddell's blood pressure dropped and fluids increased.. the anaesthetist visited parry during his surgery and told him "we have a problem, she's bleeding.
