JW Culture has Changed!
by Amazing inin the late 1960s, i became a jw.
there was a sense of intellectual freedom and more openness to discuss various spiritual and even some social topics.
there was reliance on watch tower literature as an authority, but still the soiciety seem to confine its concerns and left the rest up to individual jws to decide.

I too read Schnell's book about 5 years ago. When my parents were studying in 1971/72 "Thirty Years" was THE apostate book everyone was warned about in loud whispers. So of course when I decided that I was done with the WTS, I added it to my reading list.
Does Schnell whine? Yeah, he does. Would I recommend as a "you need to read this to figure stuff out and heal book" (like Ray's)? No. But I thought that the insights Schnell had on the org. during the Rutherford years in Europe were quite interesting. A viewpoint not really found in Ray's works or Jim Penton's.

We too have had Thanksgiving for many years, just called it something else or ate the big dinner on Friday! What a joke. For the last 3 years we've had friends over who like us, don't have any family in the area and aren't able to travel home. They have been 3 memorable dinners.
This will be our 4th year to have a tree and all the trimmings, at my house Christmas is subtitled "Family Appreciation Day." We mostly started for my daughters sake, she had never experienced Christmas and wanted so desperately to be "normal." She loves being "normal."
Funny enough the first year I put lights on the outside of the house, I thought to myself that I hadn't seen hide nor hair of any elders in several months, they'll probably show up in the next couple of weeks.
They did! They got an eyeful, but told my husband that we couldn't be DF'd for celebrating X-mas!To my knowledge we are still not DF'd, not that I'd care, mind you!

The Watchtower Ruins Children and Families
by metatron ini repeat this subject because i see it come up as a defense.
of the organization ("do the math").
it makes my blood boil!.

Well said, Metatron.
My mother was a manipulative control freak before she became a Dub, and being a Dub just made it worse. It's a wonder I have any sanity or self-esteem at all. The end result of her "madness" is that both my brother and I have very cautious, superficial relationships with her. Sad.

Princess,
I attended my last DC at the Tacoma Dome, I guess in 1996. Spent 3/4 of the day there. Everything about it was so depressing. I couldn't wait to leave and you could not have PAID me to go back and spend another day.
I'm with you. "Glad to be done with all that."

Freedom Hall, Louisville, KY???? I don't recall us ever going to an assembly there, unless that was the place were we went in 1972.
Memphis--Mid-South Colisuem was ok, but after about the ten millionith assembly there it got old.
Worst--Any place outside. Hialeah Race Track comes to mind and Royal Stadium in Kansas City. UGH!!!

by Cotton Tail ini am a disassociated jw living in south florida looking for support in my area.

Trotafox,
Hi there! I lived in Tamarac for 7 years (1986-1993). Knew one couple, Tank and Telia Mangoia that were originally in the Plantation Hall but later attended in Tamarac. Also was very good friends with a Tamarac couple who now attend one of the Del Ray congs, Garry and Val Grey. If you happen to know either of them and could give me an update of how they are, I'd appreciate it.
