My last birthday is on the 30th. I'll be 39! May I take a raincheck on the spankings and have my ex-husband beheaded?

Marijuana...should it be legalised?
by digderidoo inafter talkin in chat tonight....it has got me and a friend talkin about whether marijuana should be legalised.. my view...yes, .
i) who has the right to tell me what to do with my own body?.
ii) alcohol is a legalised drug....each year more deaths occur through alcohol abuse than marijuana usage.. iii) people smoke it anyway and the question is not bein addressed.. iv) it's great to get stoned!!!

I manage a health food store. How is marijuana different than any other "relaxing" herb? Have you ever used kava kava? Very much the same effect. I think that the legalization issue also is a political minefield. It's hard to maintain the "white male" status quo when consciousness expanding substances are widely available. I, too, believe that alcohol is far deadlier societally and absolutely refuse to touch the stuff. As for pot, I don't smoke it, but love to ingest it in other ways (cookies,etc.).
You should hear my friends laugh when I tell them that I first tried pot at 37!

belly up to the bar, guys and gals
by unanswered inwith all the confrontation/negativity on the board these last few weeks, maybe we all need to sit back and have a drink, or a cup of tea or coffee, if alcohol's not for you.. seriously, i'm not trying to pretend that i haven't gotten caught up in the negativity at times, or trivialize important issues/feelings, but things haven't been as fun, lately.
i've noticed a change even in the short time i've been posting.
i didn't start this topic to point fingers or to act like my opinion is somehow special, but wouldn't it be nice for all of us to see an increase in civility?.

Cheers, everyone. I must agree on all counts. We can change the "air" around here by refusing to engage in these petty, name-calling squabbles. When dealing with petulant children, do we stamp, our feet, stick out our tongues and call them names? Okay, some of us may... Seriously, we can still have lots of fun and behave like adults, too. Let's not return evil for evil (gag... how biblical).

Hi, all! I'll reintroduce myself. I'm almost 39(end of April!), the mother of 3 beautiful daughters. I was raised a JW and my parents are still active. I was baptized at fifteen, married to a JW for 17 years who left my daughters and I for a co-worker. I felt betrayed by my ex and the org. I was DA"D in 1999 and have since married an extraordinarily loving old hippy and now also have 2 great stepkids. I have also been friends with Thinker's Wife for about 23 years. We live in the same area and have lunch when we can.

Field Service, Anyone?
by Farkel inthe human brain is a non-stop chattering machine.
it is constantly evaluating, making decisions and judgments.
there is not a human being alive that isn't an abject hypocrite nearly every day.

A tip of the hat to both you and Dunkin' Donuts, Farkel. You made my rainy spring morning a bit sunnier.

Are JW women repressed in the org?
by Tina inin another thread titled why?
in the beliefs and practices forum,.
i have an exchange going on with another woman.

Oh, don't get me started! In our congregation the PO made up defined "rules" about where sisters should be. In service, women were always made to sit in the back seat. Men up front. We usually all went out to eat after the meeting on Sunday; men on one end of the table, women at the other. Ironically, our PO's name was and still is, FRED! He also had no compunction about feeling up any sister that he wanted to. I objected and was told, "It's all right. That's just how Fred is." As a single woman, I strongly objected to the "meat market mentality" induced by the disproportionate number of women to men in the org. Enough on this subject, I'm getting indigestion!
