God is not a good Samaritan
by peacedog ini don't start threads very often, but yesterday i had something of an epiphany as i was doing some work in the yard.
deep in thought, as i usually am when doing mundane tasks, it occurred to me that while jesus encouraged us to be "good samaritans", god himself is not a good samaritan.
in the parable by jesus, a traveler is left beaten and robbed on the side of the road.

No, they are not as manly as they used to be and it makes me sad. It makes me sadder that the girly men (metrosexuals) think that women want girly men. I blame the liberals (as always).

The Taliban, a product of the Madrasah - fundamentalist religious school where boys spend hours every day reciting and memorizing the Qur'an - has taken the subjugation of women to new heights. Women were barred from employment and girls are forbidden to attend school. Women were also denied medical care because it was illegal for women to be examined by a male doctor. Any woman caught in the company of a male not related to her was sentenced to death and women were not permitted to leave the house without being accompanied by a male relative. Some women earned a small income by baking bread, when discovered by the Taliban they were burned alive in their own ovens.
In Muslim societies religion governs all aspects of life and has priority over secular laws and local customs, therefore, the excuse that tradition alone is responsible for women's oppression is untenable. Unless Muslim apologists are prepared to back their claims by a campaign to reform their religion and improve the situation of women, their assertions that Islam is blameless in oppressing women, are null and void.

Strasbourg court declares illegal dissolving of Jehovah's Witnesses in Moscow
by behemot inthe european court of human rights declared illegal on thursday a ruling by a russian court in 2004 to dissolve the moscow branch of the jehovah's witnesses.. it ordered russia to pay 70,000 euros to the movement's members.. russia's committee of salvation ngo lodged a suit demanding a halt to the activities of the jehovah's witnesses in moscow in 1995. the christian-based movement responded with a countersuit at the strasbourg court in october 2001.. in march 2004, a moscow district court dissolved the organization, which russia considers a sect, and banned its activities.
it said the "sect" encouraged its younger members to disown their families, commit suicide and neglect their civic duties.. the strasbourg court said the moscow court's ruling lacked sufficient grounds and was "too strict a measure.".
under the european convention on human rights, russia or the applicants have three months to appeal the ruling in the court's grand chamber.. the jehovah's witnesses, with up to seven million believers worldwide and 300,000 in russia, have already been banned in a number of former soviet republics.. the group, best known for its door-to-door evangelistic work, was founded in the united states at the end of the 19th century.
