More Talk About SEX, Baby!
by Englishman ini was listening today to the jimmy young show on radio 2. apart from the fact that jimmy young wasn't present, the show followed it's usual pattern of righteous indignation against teenagers, asylum seekers, unmarried young mothers and the unemployed.. todays topic was sex education.. how old should children be before they know about sex?
or should i say, be told all about sex?.
i could't believe what i was hearing.

I agree with Farkel's comments about not giving children more information than they can understand.
When my son was nine, I overheard a couple of boys in the neigborhood telling him their version of the facts of life. I couldn't believe some of the things that I was overhearing.
I immediately called my son indoors and explained the proper facts of procreation. He had already known where babies came from, he just didn't know how they got there. Up to that point, if my son asked me a question, I told him the answer to the question only. No overkill of information. So far, so good. There have been no surprises.
A girlfriend of mine had a similar experience with her son. When she explained human breeding habits to him, she, like I did with mine, stressed birth control. However, her son who is 20 years old, is now the daddy of a little girl.
Sometimes it doesn't matter how well you educate your children, they will still make mistakes.
