new light?
the oldies who can't attend the memorial can now stay home and get it delivered.
my gut feeling is that this is a sneaky way of confirming to the r&f that annointed are old... like the r&f are going to waste precious ink asking these sorts of questions - they're more likely to be asking: "should we call the police up on the child-molesting po in our congregation?

it was satan that was cursed, not the snake!
if it was satan then that the "curse" of genesis 3:14 applied to rather than the serpent, then how is it that satan has had to live his life since that day as if having to go upon his belly and eat dust?
the answer is arrived at by first considering the lowly state of this somewhat pitiful creature called the "serpent".
Where in the Genesis story of creation and the fall is there any mention of Satan? If we work on the assumption that the story means what it says, will we arrive at a traditional interpretation of it?

this is my first attempt to make contact with ex jws, i would love to make contact with ex jws in cambridgeshire/northamptonshire but would luv to hear from anyone else who wishes to share their wit/humour or just chat.
i have been out of "big mother" for 18 months after spending my whole life very actively associating with jws (all of my 32 years).
Hi Tish,
Another British ex here. Been out a long time now. I trained for the Methodist ministry in Cambridge and sometimes visited the KH in Stanton (?) Road when planning a major piece of research on JWim.
Best wishes. Make the most of your freedom.

Junias is a female name so it is more than likely that the person mentioned in Romans 16:7 was a woman. The "difficulty" is that Paul refers to her as an apostle which is inconvenient for those who like to argue that women can't be given positions of responsibility in the church. The word for "man" doesn't appear in the original Greek so the NWT rendering, "...who are men of note among the apostles..." is improper. OK would be, "...who are of note among the apostles..." which corresponds fairly closely with the original text.

maybe it's just me but, it seem like "elders" respond extremely quickly to "sexual misconduct" as long as it does not involve their own family members.
true or false?
I was booted out pretty quickly for apostasy. In the same congregation there had been a guy who had served time in prison for sexually abusing his own youngster but who was never disfellowshipped.

I've been in Wales for eight years now - first in Swansea and now in Roath, Cardiff. We are moving to St Mellons (still Cardiff) in September. Was in Manchester and Clydebank, Scotland hen I was a JW. I'm now minister of St David's church in Pentwyn.

something that always puzzled me as i grew up a witness was where those in mainstream christianity gained the notion that mary magadalene had been a prostitute.
no amount of independent study that i did ever turned up anything to back up the allegation.
does anyone know where such information comes from?
The idea that Mary Magdalene had been a prostitute is an ancient tradition that has virtually no evidence to support it. It appears to stem from the idea that the name Magdalene was based upon a Hebrew word meaning to braid or plait the hair - so she acquired the name from excessive attention to her grooming which suggests a woman, so the tradition had it, of rather dubious habits. With that rather tenuous reasoning the connection was made with the story in Luke 7:36-50 and the idea has persisted that this is an account of how Mary Magdalene came to be a disciple. All very dubious. It could be true but there is now way of ever being able to find out for sure.

lets invent some problem for jw's to see how far you can take their rules.
1.siamese twins get baptised.one now get disfellowshipped for apostacy.the witness one ,get counceled by the elders for mixing with apostates.eventualy gets disfellowshipped for too much assosiation with apostate other half.
2.man has sex change, but then becomes witness.is he a brother or a sister?
Love this idea. The problem with the chimpanzee (or chimpan zed as we Brits say) should be straightforward because there is a clear precedent in scripture. OK, not in scripture, it's in the apocryphal New Testament. According to the story, Philip and a companion encountered a leopard which was attacking a poor defenceless goat. Outraged, Philip called upon the leopard to stop and to repent in the name of Jesus Christ. The leopard, realising the error of his ways, fell on his knees at Philip's feet and begged for forgiveness. On being assured that his sins were forgiven, he received the power of speech (don't ask how he could have begged forgiveness first... That's a mere detail designed to test the faith of those who are inclined to skepticism) and both he and the goat accompanied Philip, rejoicing in their new faith and proclaiming the Gospel. Though the account doesn't actually tell us that the leopard and the goat were baptised we must presume that the were as the Spirit had clearly been given them. There's lots of other fun stuff in the apocryphal NT.
