The goal is to build larger assembly halls that hold 3000-5000 people at a time. I believe one was just built somewhere in the Salisubry NC. No renting and negotiating for arenas, all profits are kept. It wouldn't be a logistical nightmare as since they are owned by the WTBS you can have a convention there every weekend. I believe the 400 to 100 number is like someone already mentioned, there will always be some areas where it just isn't feasible to build their own assembly hall.

Have The JWs Changed All That Much In The Last 20 Years All That Much?

I say yes it has. I think things are actually more relaxed. When I was a kid, television was considered bad. Some homes wouldn't allow tvs, they were strict and came down hard on their kids. Now the majority of those kids as grown adults are long gone. I think the kids that grew up and are still in are the generation that is very technology oriented, very instant gratification, and very tell me what I need to do or know, I don't want to do the work. So in the 80s and 90s there were A LOT of hardcore, devout, bible thumpers at the hall. Today I would say most adults have very few verses even memorized. My mom to this day could quote scripture after scripture and talk about anything at the door from her memory. I don't know any young adult in their 20s and 30s that could come even close to being able to do that today. The "end" was always a topic all of the time, I don't think that it is really discussed anymore. While they follow the rules, many families just do what is most convenient and exist. Now it is my opinon Jehovah's Witnesses as a religion will always continue to exist. I don't believe there will be a massive exit or people will just stop going. As long as religions are tax free, they can thrive very easily. Most witnesses today wouldn't have a clue on how to research their history since they only know how to research using a watchtower library cd. As the people change, so will the organization. When a lot of older ones die, I think that things will kind of become go with the flow and exist in the religion.

As for me I manned up years ago and realized it was going no where. With the latest watchtower changes my family has already talked about how exciting and neat the changes are. I used to go round and round with my parents about how the GB was the real Faithful and discreet slave because they decide everything anyway. I was told that is not true and anyone of the annointed can write articles and submit teachings through the watchtower. Now that they changed it to what I said 10 years ago, the response was, I always thought it should be this way just like I thought the generations teaching was incorrect in the 90s. Bear in mind my mother and eye had a long discussion in probably 1993 about how 1994 had to be the end due to the generations teaching. I am sure this is how most conversations go with J dubs. I actually find it to be pointless and a waste of time to even try to talk about it. It goes no where and as long as they can rationalize that the light is getting brighter and are excited about new thoughts, there is nothing that can be done. It truly is easier to let them live in their world and live in my own without their knowledge of it.

@whathappened this is actually very good advice. There are A LOT of people who would be considered weak and are fun to hang around. The best part is when you are with them, nothing religious ever comes up in conversation. And even if it does its very light or brief.
One rule I live by though is if you are going to do anything that could get you in a judicial committee, it cannot be with other witnesses no matter how weak. They squawk the moment they're in trouble.

I don't think it will be a problem. When the time comes and elders and servants are needed, people get appointed whether they are qualified or not. It's just a matter of relative necessity. For some reason there always seem to be brothers where I live that are willing to serve in halls that need help. Just how I see it in my area.

@ding my entire family on both sides are in. I read these boards years ago and read some terrible hings that happened after people left. I didn't want that to happen to me. This was the best option I came up with as I can miss meetings and barely go in service and no one bothers me while still maintains all relationships I have.
