Wow, is that how that western song goes? Geez, learn something new everyday, eh?
"People in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones"
earlier, i had asked about changes under the thread, "new truth".
your replies were interesting and informative, or should i say it was meat in due season and i found it upbuilding.
i have another question: is the new world view still the same.

so what does everyone think of bush finally winning.. is it a good thing?
Personally I could care less who's in office, their all a bunch of crooks anyways.
I have never voted, even before I was a Witness, and still hold the same values, Christ rules my life, and he's my only leader!

i once offered this to obed, and he did seem interested, however, because of my being a free thinker, it didn't go too well with the jw moderators on witnet.. i had propose a history forum, where the history of the watchtower society could be analyzed, their beliefs, and practices, how they evolved, why they believe as they did or do.
such a forum will enlighten many to the organization they either once called or currently call 'jehovah's visible organization.'.

Well if background history is what you want, then it's what I have. I have been documenting the Society's history for some fifteen years, have an out of print book to my name "Soldiers of the Cross" and am a historian for the Bible Students Association, working on a history of Pastor Russell and the IBSA.
Keep in mind that most of those who worked closely with Russell left shortly after he died, and some of the documentation is incredible. Most of these old timers were still alive in the 60s and 70s, and the Bible Students went to great lengths to record the history and experiences, these were all done on video and audio tapes, which are in my library, quite a history.

Having read the Watchtower's "Proclaimers of God's Kingdom" history book,I thought to myself, is this a history or a field service report.
One JW told me, "I like the new history, but it's missing something" .... I said "yeah, history."
Having spoken to the one who researched and compiled the data for the 'Proclaimers' book, it is only half said.
I was told that the book was rewitten by the Society's writing department and when they were through with it, about 75% of the original was rewritten. This person has since left bethel and is now inactive.

for i do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to israel until the fullness of the gentiles has come in.
- romans 11:25. .
i wonder how many of you having read the 11 chapter of romans, see that the jews have not been rejected of god forever.. seems to me from the above verse that they were blinded to the truth, and that this blindness is temporary ... until the fullness of the gentiles, the gentiles, of course being those who would make up the church class, the bride of christ, the 144,000.. what say ye?.
You know me? Hmmmm ... okay ... as to bravenet, that forum has been discontinued, and a new one has been set up at the following:

for all that we've trashed the catholic church as though they've been some kind of "arch-enemy" of jehovah's witnesses and christianity itself, its quite facinating to see this once strict religion gradually abandoning its teachings and becoming more mainstream.. its quite interesting to see how centuries held beliefs can be abandoned due to changing times.
i think there are many more similarities between the catholic church and witnesses than we realized, despite our insisting how radically different we were.. i'm not saying the attrocities committed by the catholic church are somehow equal or less than mistakes made by jehovah's witnesses.
but i do think that the pope's acknowledging and apologizing for many of these earlier this year is a step in the right direction.. i guess they get new light too as they've changed their teachings on hellfire, and now they've even opened up heaven to non-catholics.
Pathofthorns: I think there are many more similarities between the catholic church and Witnesses than we realized, despite our insisting how radically different we were.
Actually, I am working on an article, well it started out as an article, now it's a thesis [lol] called The Third Babylon and you wouldn't believe the similiarities between the RCC and the WTS, friends the Vatican is in Brooklyn.
One of the funny quotes I have is the RCC referring to themselves as
as the "Mother Church." Yet how many of your old timers remember the Society saying "if Jehovah is our heavenly Father then his organization is our Mother." Scary eh?
"People in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones"
since many of you seem to be negative about the society,.
and refer to the society as "they" instead of "we":.
"who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord.
Well, Frenchy, if you believe the Bible Students then he returned in 1874, and since Pastor Russell pointed this out, then he would be the Faithful and wise servant, if you believe in the Watchtower Society, they Jesus returned in 1914 and they are the FDS class. If you believe The Angel of Jehovah Bible and Tract Society then Jesus returned in the year 70 and that would make ALexander Freytag the F&DS.
