  Adams naming of the animals?

  may 1, 1968 p 271 has been sited on another post and it goes, thus, adam's naming of the animals.

  just who in the hell was he naming them for.

  wasn't he doing this prior to having eve.

  Along the line of the dead animal skins, here is another question:

  The Bible tells us that Abel was a shepherd, yet humans did not
  eat meat until after the flood. What was he doing with all those
  sheep? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

  Also, when he sacrificed, he killed a sheep and offered up the fatty parts.
  Did he just wast the rest of the sheep?

  And, since there were only four people alive on the earth at the time, it
  seems a little strange that Abel would spend all of his time playing with
  his pet sheep, while Cain was out working on the farm.

  Head coverings, prayer and women

  is the wts view on women praying publically still the same as it was in the 70s?

  the article "should you cover your head during prayer" watchtower 2/15/77 page 46 and a "question from readers" 6/15/77 are the last references i have to this particular jw custom.. has anything more recent been published?.

  Yes, the head covering thing is exactly the same. We had a local needs part
  in our service meeting a while ago, and they quoted from one of the KM's from
  the 1970's.

  As well, my father can't speak due to brain surgery. My kids tell me that when
  they eat with Grandma, and I'm not around, she puts something handy on her
  head, usually a paper napkin. My nephew (age 6), who is not a JW, finds
  this hillarious.

  What happens at the elder's school?

  my father-in-law and brother-in-law are both off to the elder's school in dudley, england this weekend.. can anyone enlighten me as to what they find to talk about for two days?

  what is special about this meeting that can't be handled thorough normal channels?.

  I always pictured Elder's school as being kind of like Hogwort's. You
  know, elders flying on broomsticks and learning the latest spells and
  potions to try on their congregations.

  By coincidence, I have two elders from out of town staying at my house
  right now (one is my wife's uncle). The elder's school is today and
  tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see if they look any wiser tonight.

  why i dont love jehovah

  there was once a time in my life, that saying i dont love jehovah was just unimaginable for me.

  i loved jehovah, talked to this deity daily, sometimes for hours in reverent prayers and looked diligently for his answers.

  Canada Bethelites told not accepted if they marry

  since i'm out of the loop, this was told to me by a friend tonight that since the canadian bethel continues to downsize, any bethelites that are dating are informed they and their future wives will not be accepted if they marry.. it is well known here that the branch built for growth that never occurred and continues to not happen so it is likely there is some truth to this.

  this may be old news anyway, like i said, i'm out of the loop.. in the past (and correct me if i'm wrong) at least one could re-apply and have a reasonable good chance of being accepted.. these days a bethelite finds himself with difficult choices to marry and face the big scary real world or stick with the life he knows.

  one way or another, the wt makes it difficult for those who wish to live a normal life.

  My cousin, who was a 10 year Canadian Bethel veteran left
  about 6 weeks ago. He got married, and was not allowed to
  stay.

  The two of them plan to reapply in a few months.

  well, it's winter, and it's just a bit more depressing this time of year, and i'm thinking about death.

  i wonder, what do atheists believe about death?

  do you believe in any way that a 'spirit' lives on?

  "I think if you don't beleive in God death is a very bleak prospect."

  Yes, death is kind of a downer.

  On the other hand, I don't see much partying going on at the church
  funerals I have been to, and I don't see many Christians rushing to
  off themselves, so I suspect that the "bleak death" concept is something
  that athiests and religious persons have in common.

  Yeah, that's pretty close.

  I believe that life is precious and beautiful. It should be enjoyed
  as if it is the last one in eternity. There is no afterlife to wrap up the
  loose ends of our lives, we should do it now.

  As disturbing as it is to know we will die, it is this knowledge that makes
  life so sweet.

  Since atheism does not have any sort of doctrinal structure or
  organization, then each individual can only speak for themselves.

  So, speaking for myself, my disbelief in God is accompanied by
  a disbelief in any sort of spirit realm. The debate over this issue is
  a long, long, discussion that invariably ends up with both sides
  entrenched in their originally held viewpoints, so I don't really want to
  get into it. But, you asked.

  Contrary to most Chistians views of atheists, I find this viewpoint to be
  refreshing, satisfying, and motivational.

  A Salute to the Kids of Dubdom

  as the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.

  how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?

  '' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.

  I will agree with Yoyo on one point:

  Standing up for what you believe is the right thing to do. The world
  would be a better place if more people would do it.

  My problem with the JW stand on Christmas is that their stand is
  based on a dumb-ass superstitious avoidance of anything they consider
  pagan. It's like putting your life on the line for colored toilet paper. It
  is stupid, and uncaring especially for children.

  Standing up for what you believe is the right thing to do. I am hereby
  standing up for the downtrodden children of JW's.
