  Service meeting topic: Masturbation

  one of my strangest memories of going to the kh was when a young- maybe 18-20, pimply young man got up to talk about jhvhs view of masturbation during a service meeting.. of course, it was impossible to think about him not masturbating.

  i was just hitting puberty and found the whole thing very uncomfortable- i think my dad was even critiquing him (what is that called when elder gives the feedback).

  looking back now i can see that to publicly condemn masturbation, especially when a young man is delivering this admonition, is- well- hilarious.

  Hold on, I've found where they say they are prophets... no, hold that a second... wait, yes, I think, um, maybe:

  w72 4/1 p.197 - JW's are prophets - "This 'prophet' was not one man, but was a body of men and women... Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses."

  Reasoning From the Scriptures (1985 and 1989) - JW's are not prophets - “Jehovah's Witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets.”

  Awake 6/8/1986 - JW's are prophets - “You will be interested to learn that God has on earth a people, all of whom are prophets... Jehovah's Witnesses.”

  w94 1/15 p. 16 par. 5 - JW's are not prophets - " Today, that is no longer the case; there are no inspired prophets or apostles."

  w11 3/15 p. 30 par. 10 - JW's are prophets - "Like the prophet of old, the Jeremiah class has been given an assignment from the Sovereign of the universe. God’s anointed servants are thus duly authorized to make pronouncements worldwide..."

  Starting to read 1984 by Orwell

  i bought the book for a number of reasons:.

  1. it sounds brill.. 2. it sounds like the kind of people who read are rather clever and well educated (and i want to be one of them).. 3. i may find it interesting how it relates to the jws.. regarding the latter, does anyone have any thoughts and feeling on this point, or is there anything i should look out for when comparing what orwell writes about with the jws?.

  I'm really out there on my own with accounts being ok, aren't I?

  Really, it's not that bad! I did it for years, even doing all the accounts for a full kingdom hall build! It added up to the penny! There is one downside I remember now - when it's summer holiday season there's no telling what foreign coins end up in the boxes because the brothers have no use for them anymore, and think you can do something with a Canadian 10 cent coin or 25 Euro cents.

  OK, Hall Servant: Organized to do Jehovahs Will p. 56:

  "There is much work to be done in maintaining the Kingdom Hall and keeping it clean, so Ministerial Servants are often called upon to assist in caring for these responsibilities. Ministerial servants are also assigned to serve as attendants, to welcome new ones, and to help maintain order at congregation meetings."

  So if your elders don't have this organised yet, point out their oversight and volunteer to manage this.

  Is "Gog of Magog" Satan?

  for as long as i can remember, eze 38 was, and still is, an end-times prophecy about how satan would come up against jws because jws would be "dwelling in security" (ez.

  38:14) after all the other religions are destroyed.

  this is pretty much the most terrifying chapter in the bible for me, understanding it as jws do.

  1.the organization itself denies access to reality and substitutes its own version, interpretations and meanings.. a.only watchtower approved publications are allowed.. b.no higher education is to be pursued.. c.no non-jw friends or associations are encouraged with their "outside" points of view.. d.no free-style questioning of doctrine or criticism permitted.

  curiousity is verboten.. e.threat of being "marked" or disassociated looms over them.

  2.between every real-world event and the rank and file jw's mind is a roadblock.. a.the moment of identifying is short-circuited by an interpretive moment of re-labeling in watchtower-speak.. b.all things happening are forced into a narrow storyline and propagandized as end times happenings leading to armageddon.. 3.social and personal identity is expunged and replaced by a collective persona: "jehovah's witness".. a.private thinking is red-flagged as selfish and sinful.. b.personal improvement, welfare and ambition is crushed and door-to-door ministry substituted as "worthy" endeavors.. c.self-conscious obsession permeates witness awareness as each person is transformed into a public spectacle of performance for judgement.. d.since you aren't an individual you don't really have a right to fall in love and marry or educate or earn.

  At the meeting ast night the study conductor asked "Why do some people we meet on the ministry waste our time?"

  Answer "Because Satan makes them".
