the biases of the earlier iteration of the nwt have been known and discussed from the appearance of the first appearance in 1950, and i assume the revised edition will be affected by the same prejudicial biases.
one can cynically subscribe to the view that this is a financial bonanza and possibly a distraction from the imminent centenary of that distant significant date.. my interest will be to see how the impact of this revision evolves, particularly in the area of the wts's support material and on the impact its release will have on witnesses.
some preliminary thoughts are:.
John 8:58 "Jesus said to them:"Most truly I say to you, before Abraham came into existence, I have been". "
Col 2:9 "because it is in him that all the fullness of the divine quality dwells bodily."

can anyone save me the stress of listening to the self-appointed faithful & discreet slave for 3 hours, and give a clue as to roughly at what point in the proceedings was the derogatory term 'bum witnesses used, and by whom?
i'd really love to extract that comment and send it to a weakening witness, to highlight the judgmental arrogance and name-calling being displayed.. many thanks in advance folks!.
Along the lines of 1975, one interesting comment was made by the GB. It was to do with teaching something that was incorrect, and an example from 2Tim 1:13 was given (paraphrasing):
"An elder gave a PT and mentioned the 'pattern of healthful words'. He said 'If you take this verse from here, and that verse from there, and then this one, you get a beautiful pattern emerging' and this was like a designers pattern, a pattern on a piece of fabric."
Everyome laughed, as did the GB, since that is not what 'pattern' means in the correct context. This illustrated why the word 'pattern' had to be replaced in the new NWT.
Later in the same talk he admitted "It has to be said, that elder got his idea from somewhere", and explained that something similar once appeared in the WT. This, I've since found, was in w87 11/15 p.21 "The Pattern Established".
Other words replaced in the new NWT include Fornication (Sexual misconduct), and Brazen Conduct now appears in Gal 5 list of works of the flesh.

i received an email from a member who is not comfortable posting yet, says for now he just lurks - but he/she made a very interesting comment about the gb giving instructions to the elders about making adjustments.
here is an exact quote: "for all you brothers that have responsibilites giving talks, public talks on the platform, assemblies and convections coming up, you have some work to do.
you are going to have to relook at those scriptures you are using, and make some adjustments in whatever it says from the bible.
Dotted throughout the presentations were references to elders, and how they should ow take note of something or other.
I'm sure they will diligently refresh their public talk back catalogs, just as they did when the talks were reduced in time from 45 to 30 mins.
I was suprised to hear the GB referring to the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" in the third person.
Never did thay say eg "You should thank us for this Bible", or "We have provided this for you...", always the "F&DS".

What annoyed me was how they spent time pooh-poohing the KJV and the language used, only later to scoff at some of the old NWT, even commenting once "whatever that means" in a derogatory way after reading an old NWT verse.
I actually really like the KJV and find it a dignified translation. I don't think there are any Bible versions I'd use in isolation since many versions together can give an excellent feel for what was meant. The KJV 'may' not have had any anointed on the translation committee but they were extreme scholars, and the GB did once say that 'being anointed doesn't give you any extra insight above a non-anointed".
I'll use this new version in conjunction with others, as I've always done. Especially an interlinear. The app being released on Monday looks very useful.
It's a heavy bible, much more so than the last one, but that's due to all of the extra bits at the front and back. Seems well put together.

Unless that person misheard, I didn't even get a similar phrase.
They repeated a few times that ANY family or friends not in the Truth are essentially a drain and a danger, so why spend time with them.
I didn't hear that same thought aimed at low-hour or 'weak' witnesses though.

The mobile device app that's being released on Monday from all of the main app stores looks good.
A side by side comparison of verses from the old NWT, the new NWT, the ASV, Diaglott, Geneva Bible, and one other.
I think they said it was called WT Library.

I can confirm that the phrase 'bum witness' was NOT used.

there's a lot.
.
one that i just don't understand is that no one should hold hands during a prayer.. where the hell do they come up with these rules??
And when it comes to the District Conventions, the KM is full of the craziest rules!
i have noticed on ex sites the use of the word jah in reference to jehovah.
is this just a slang used by ex's or do active also use it?
if active members use it, doesn't it seem a bit disrespectful then?
(Ps 104:35) "Bless Jehovah, O my soul. Praise Jah, YOU people!"
(Re 19:6) "And I heard what was as a voice of a great crowd and as a sound of many waters and as a sound of heavy thunders. They said: “Praise Jah, YOU people."
So I guess they think it's ok.
