Kurtbethel, thanks for finding one of the few pictures of Jesus ruling but with no beard!
This must've been during one of their strict clampdowns.

good morning folks!
i have believed in the 1914 jw core teaching for more than 20 years.
but now, after seeing much about this date, i find it uncomfortable and odd to believe it unquestionably, much less defend it against opposing thoughts.

it is painful to read.
check out the 1/15/14 wt.
i am going to throw an invisible party to celebrate.
No wonder an earlier WT told us that no matter how difficult something is to understand, we must believe it and just do as we're told.
I think they were referring to this "two group generation".

another tidbit of information about this generation from the 1/15/2014 study edition under "let your kingdom come - but when?".
they've changed it again.. this generation will not pass away14-16.
what is a third reason for believing that gods kingdom will come soon?.
Ok, let's work it out:
20yr old, baptized and anointed in 1914. Lives to 80 so dies in 1974.
Overlaps with 20yr old baptized and anointed in 1974. Lives to 80 so dies in 2034.
This means that "this generation" stems from roughly 1894 to 2034 - 140 years long.
We've still got 20yrs before arnageddon folks!

"We understand that in mentioning “this generation,” Jesus was referring to two groups of anointed Christians."
Why two groups? Why not three?
Because noone can say how many groups make up a generation, thirty years from now they will 'understand' that there are more than two groups in a generation.

"The first group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of Christ’s presence in that year."
Did any anointed 'readily discern' Christs presence?
The answer of course is that the anointed thought Jesus' presence had begun in 1874 so they did NOT discern anything correctly for 1914. They were not even in expectation of him!

but the understanding is affirmed in the revelation climax book, albeit with less detail.
the events are as follows (& i'm keeping the quotes really short) :.
1st angel - "it all began during the bible students cedar point convention in september 1922. there gods people enthusiastically adopted a resolution entitled "a challenge.
I remember discussing this the first time we studied the Revelation book.
Looking at that comic drawing of a bishop with three arrows in his bottom with the caption "thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the kings enemies", I remember thinking, "Is that it? Is that REALLY all we can recall about such a monumental biblical event?"
Everyone thought the caption was hilarious. I was incredulous.

the story of why the new bible has a grey cover (silver sword) moved me to ask you all what your favorite jw urban legend is?.
one of my favorite jw urban legends.
a sister is out in service alone.
Wasn't there one about a Nazi infiltrator getting zapped by lightning, and another about a starving pioneer finding a potato in the road the size of a football?

the pioneer service school will now be only one week, monday thru saturday.. it will consist of 40 hours of instruction and illustrations/presentations.. the reasong given is that this will make it more accessible to the pioneers for due to work schedules and for congregations having to sponsor and support the school.. it will make it easier on everyone and those who haven't attended in the last five years may be able to attend this school with the new curriculum.. .
what do you feel would be included in the new curriculum.
probably more worship of the governing body and they don't need two whole weeks to get this across.. .
If they think they can cover the (new - 2010) Pioneer book in one week then that's mad.
Even with hours of homework every night it's a struggle to fit it all in!

between two congregations that i know of four elders have stepped down in the last two months!
there is something really going on in this mandmade organization!
it's busting at the seams!.
Most elders I know are old and worn out.
If they are not old, they are just worn out.

i struggled with this question before i got baptised.
what helped you to overcome any doubts?.
Hi SloppyJoe,
Yes, that whole "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" campaign was pretty much the sole focus for seven intense years.
In the years to come, will JW's look back on the current day campaigns and laugh at how hard they all worked at teaching something that was later completely dropped?
